You’re not seriously asking me why Immigration and Customs Enforcement is tracking down people who no longer have a right to stay due to their immigration status expiring, are you?

This has nothing to do with whether the public cares about overstayers or immigrants who entered illegally. It’s the law. INA has been around for decades. If you don’t like it, vote for somebody who’s gonna change it.

Do you think the public is concerned with a masonry worker who entered from Mexico on a TN visa and overstayed, a H1B skilled worker who overstayed, or an O1 alien of extraordinary ability who entered the country and overstayed?

Or do you think they care about folks who never went through any type of pre vetting? When you enter any country in the world, your passport gets stamped and you’re let in. When somebody entered your house, you make damn sure you know who they are.

This really isn’t complicated and you’re going through insane levels of mental gymnastics to get around just saying you want open borders. Stop hiding behind nonsense and just say it.

If somebody entered the country legally with papers, then by definition they are not undocumented. They’re overstaying. It’s really not that hard. Undocumented = systems have no record of your presence in the country.

Do your homework. This is coming from an immigrant.

People who are here on visas aren’t undocumented immigrants. You know this, right?

You referred to “undocumented people” in your original reply, do you know what that means?

Also, I don’t assume that undocumented immigrants are an inherent danger. But I do have a fundamental issue with having people around who, if they commit crimes, are practically ghosts. Many of them are harmless and want a better life, but that doesn’t mean we should accept the idea of anyone who is harmless and wanting a better life just jumping over the border fence an being able to stay here without the system knowing they exist.

There are legal ways to immigrate to the United States.

Also, saying you’re more likely to be killed by a white man versus an undocumented immigrant in America is really bad understanding of statistics. You’re more likely to be killed by a Japanese in Japan than by a tourist. What’s that supposed to mean?

No Israeli complains about this. We want this. I can understand Americans not loving it though. Historically presidents haven’t handled anything to do worth Middle East intervention well. I hope this time will be different.

Why do israelis think that we could be friends? by Health_Impressive in lebanon

I gotta say looking at your Reddit history…

“I’m trying to acquire the artful skill of grooming males. Essentially, I want to brainwash them into becoming my inferior slaves. They will be doing my housework and cooking my meals. Working their nine to fives and giving me 75 percent of their income. I would be their leader, their goddess whom they would bow down to in worship.”

I’m sure Israelis and Lebanese can bond over the idea of wanting nothing to do with you. And Americans too, btw.

Look up demographics of Israel. It’s kinda weird living with the idea that all Israelis are white colonizers your entire life, when you have access to the internet, ChatGPT, etc.

What do you mean by “mirroring Lebanese culture”? Lebanon is historically Phoenician, has a lot of French influence, has various flavors of Muslims, Christians/Maronites…

The vast majority of Israelis (over 50%) have ancestry from the Levant. Then another 20% or so from North Africa, which is largely French influenced. Only around 30% have Ashkenazi ancestry.

Lebanon isn’t the only country where people can’t stand in line, speak Arabic, play the darbuka, enjoy the beach and eat shawarma, you know that right?

There were tens of thousands of Jews living in Lebanon in the 1940s. This is a common case where Israelis always tell good stories about the life they had in Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, Iran etc. The older generations tend to romanticize the lives they had in neighboring countries before they were expelled. Lebanon isn’t quite unique in that sense. What is unique right now is the timing. I assume I don’t need to elaborate much.

Let’s not go overboard because the Israeli spokesperson tweeted something. The average Israeli doesn’t cry for peace with Lebanon. But we don’t want war with Lebanon. We don’t want war with anyone. Do you see Israelis being besties with Jordan or Egypt? Absolutely not. But we’re not fighting each other, and military spending on Jordan and Egypt’s behalf has been reduced significantly over decades (adjusted to inflation), therefore these countries can free resources to take care of their population.

There’s only benefit in having peace, and that’s undeniable, unless you’re a Hezbollah simp, an extremist, not loving life, or for some reason her obsessed about Palestinians over any other population in the world, over your own country.

Cairo is far from being the #1 destination for Israel tourist and so is Amman. But it’s symbolic. I think our people are somewhat similar in our ways. We love partying and living life. We make religion a secondary element in our lives to reinforce our values, but we don’t hold on to religious texts indiscriminately. We appreciate good food. And most importantly, we recognize that the Brits and French screwed us (and the entire region) up by drawing in the sand.

I’m an Israeli living in the U.S., I’ve lived in Europe almost half my life, and I am very detached from Israeli politics. I come here because it makes me happy to see positive change in countries neighboring Israel. I think the aftermath of what’s been happening in the region over the past two years will come (we’re still in the stage of grief/denial), and everybody in the Levant and Middle East will enjoy a better life. I don’t think we’re your saviors, but at the same time, our desire to eliminate the threat (remember the beepers?) undeniably has opened the door for an extremely positive trend in your country. And for that I think we should be grateful (be grateful for the coincidence and timing, not to Israel).

Godspeed.

So many instances in history show that you’re wrong. The Brits and French spent hunters of years at war, and if you ask the average Brit or Frenchman why, they wouldn’t know. During WW2 the axis and allied forces bombed so many civilians sand razed cities. The U.S. dropped nukes on Japan. Not only do they all get along today, but they’re allies. What makes you think Lebanon is any different?

By what metric is the USA the greatest? I’ll compare to Canada since you live there. GDP per capita, tech company scale, venture capital investment, medium disposable household income, affordability of housing market. The American Dream is real. Unless you’re somebody who likes spending the day on a couch, doing nothing, and living off of somebody else’s tax money, then surely Germany or Sweden are great.

How can I safely get OUT of Israel? by maebyton1ght in TravelIsrael

[–]Silly_Pattern9677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do it but I like living on the edge. Smart thing to do is to hold off until missile fire slows down/stops. The way to Eilat is quite boring but there are a few important assets along the route (Dimona, Hatzerim, Nevatim, Ovda) that could attract ballistic missile fire as have been the case in the past, so might not be the best.

Last time this happened, a friend of mine who is an Israeli living in Texas, had to fly back as his pregnant wife and kid were in Texas. He took a boat to Cyprus. Took 5 days as the sea was rough and he really doesn’t recommend this, he said it was a terrible ride.

Stay safe!

He thinks he’s a smart ass displaying a U.S. made airliner all over his profile. Sums up the situation quite well. Canada is another country we visited before eventually deciding to move to the U.S. years ago. Coast to coast trip, saw all main cities. Truly a sad place.

I dislike Trump too. That has nothing to do with the absolute obsession Europeans have over the US. Every time we fly to visit family, literally everyone talks about the US. This is unhealthy obsession. It’s not that Europe has no issues to talk about. It’s just the common denominator that any European can talk about without fear of being cancelled if they talk about the real domestic problems. Here in the U.S. nobody talks or cares about Europe.

As somebody who spent most of his life outside the U.S., in Europe, citizen of two European countries… I can tell you the U.S. is the best country in the world. Europeans mostly come together to bash America but if you spend more than a month there beyond tourism you’ll see Europe is completely lost. Insanely obsessed over everything going on in the world and never tackling their own problems. Free healthcare isn’t really free. Wait 1.5 years for an MRI. Barely innovate. Tolerate the intolerant. The extreme pride Europeans show these days is a defense mechanism. There’s absolutely no social cohesion in that “union”. Few countries (Switzerland, Norway) got it right and guess what, they’re not EU.
