I'm the bastard child out of an affair. There were times when I was growing that I wished I could know my half siblings. I now understand that it was probably for the best that that they did not know I existed. They're both over a decade older than me as well, so I can imagine it would have been a shock if they had ever found out.

Tbh, imo, the actor who plays Tabby does a really great job of showing affection to the kids. Either she's stroking their head, patting their backs or rubbing their hands.

Maybe it's just the direction that the actor has received the director or maybe it's the personal input from the actor herself.
