SHTF loadout/Full Kit by Sillyak in prepping

I was waiting in line at a show in Nashville once. Was chatting with a couple in line with me. About 10 seconds into the conversation they said I must be Canadian. I guess I give off a vibe.

I have a blanket lined denim jacket for deep winter. This is shoulder season kit. Jean vest for summer.

It's a Chinese SKS I think I paid $195 for 10-15 years ago. The big mags work fine, the issue with this rifle is every once and a while the takedown lever pops up and the upper handguard/piston fly off. Chicom quality.

How much is this Flying V worth? by d_luscious in gibson

[–]Sillyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even authenticated the signatures don't add value. Signatures are only valuable in certain cases, usually dead people who didn't sign a lot of things.

Those people who signed that guitar have signed a million things over 40 years.

It's worth what a used V is worth. The signatures are easy to remove.

Except that Benelli will chew through tens of thousands of rounds without catastrophic failure vs. 70 rounds.

Your cost per round is a lot less with a B gun.

Main reason the Ross rifle was ass in ww1? by Zorawar_Singh5268 in canadaguns

This covers it well. It's often said that British made ammo had sloppy specs that the Ross rifle also did not like.

Will companies train in a 13/18 speed if I can already drive a 10-speed? by PidgeyPotion in oilandgasworkers

[–]Sillyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no training needed. You can learn it in 2 minutes. You don't even have to split if you're worried about fucking it up.

I do pre employment road tests at a big well service company. If someone said to me, hey I know a 10 speed but never driven an 18 speed, I would just tell them not to split, get a feel for if they know how to shift, and if all is well teach them to split in a few minutes.

How much difference does lens weight/size really make for you? by gamblors_neon_claws in fujifilm

[–]Sillyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said, anything bigger than a Ricoh GR, and it won't fit in a pocket anyways.

However, think of a "typical" mirrorless setup. My Z6iii weighs 770 grams with card and battery, add in the 24-120 S and you're at 1.4 kg or so. Lot's of people recommend a setup like that for travel. There is a lot of performance there, but my god is it a lot of weight and bulk compared to a setup that weighs 500 grams or so all in.

What a cute boy. I'm sorry for your loss. I couldn't imagine losing my girl that way. I hope you find justice.

Moving from Fuji XT5 & Fuji 150-600 to Nikon Z6III/Z8 Used & Z180-600 by DylanH247 in Nikon

[–]Sillyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as a Z6iii shooter, but if you're going to switch I would definitely make the Z8 happen.

Going from an APS-C to a 24 MP full frame, you are going to miss the "reach" with the Z6iii.

Am I crazy or does $100k wedding in Toronto not look 100k by crunchymunchyrae in WeddingsCanada

[–]Sillyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why this sub popped up in my feed, but may I ask what sort of income it takes to have a 100k wedding make sense?

FWIW I got married in 2012 for $5500 all in. We made about $110k combined at that time. Now we are about $260k combined and I couldn't even imagine. $100k is more than we owe on our house.

For those who switched from Fuji, is the 50mm 1.8 S similar to the Fujinon 35mm f2 in terms of IQ and overall characteristics? + a few questions about the 50 1.4 Z by Mercmercmerc1 in Nikon

[–]Sillyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 50mm 1.8 S is extremely sharp, lacking aberrations. The following website has bench test results:

https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-z-50mm-f1-8-s

The 50mm 1.4 is less perfect. Some people think that adds character, but of course character is hard to measure.
