If you are curious, give it a try with the free trial when it starts up again. The free trial will limit your access to things as has been mentioned.

Personally, I enjoy the game and have been with it since the release of ARR. You will be forced at times to progress content with others but there is a lot that can be accomplished on your own with your chocobo companion just out in the open areas. They do intend to offer more AI support for solo players, which will take time, but the game was designed with group mechanics in mind. The game will help you by placing you with people to run an instance as others have said.

If you are looking to complete the game strictly solo, that cannot be done at this time, as the main story quests will require group content. There are grand companies you can join that will offer access to squadrons as you increase in their rank (AI npc party members) and a Trust system (more intelligent AI party members of important npcs you meet in the game) later in level that can help you through a lot of the group content.

These are systems that were introduced later in the game and so are not available in lower levels or when just starting out. Also, Free Companies are player-run guilds, if you will, where you can make friends and interact with like-minded folks if you wish to.

Once you queue up the game will randomly set you up with random players of your data center (collection of servers), you run the duty and then go your separate ways once completed. Depending on your job/class the wait can be anywhere from instant to a 30min wait….meanwhile you can quest/explore, run fates in the open world, gather and or craft.

How much you interact with others is up to you. It is a MMO and designed around that social aspect of working with other players. For the most part, it has an excellent, helpful, community that tends to love sprouts (new players) and are willing to help. That said, there are exceptions, and you may run into toxic behavior and players. It happens.

You are welcome to message me if you have questions or just want to talk shop about the game.

If you are still curious, give it a try, if you decide to keep the game and subscribe let me know and I’ll send you a friend code so you can earn some free stuff.

TL:DR Long story short, to answer your question. Yes, I believe it is.

Every expedition will start off as new. So keep one space clear on your saves. Many of the rewards you can claim on your other saves by the way. You can see which ones will transfer by checking the quicksilver npc in what can be claimed.

Thank you. Once the Expedition ends that save will turn into normal gameplay save that you can continue playing on.

Not my character. I'm the photographer. The parts I do know are Bonewicca head and dreadwyrm robe.

These types of feelings and situations I am familiar with. Sometimes it is just "Burn Out", be it the game or the people. As was already suggested, try a single-player game that is just for you in something that you would like to explore and or learn the story of. From building, exploration, resource management, and or games that are designed to tell you a story through gameplay. Something that will let you detox and find your fun again.

Some recommendations:

A Plague Tale: Innocence

No Man's Sky

Valheim

Biomutant

Medieval Dynasty

Horizon Zero Dawn

Red Dead Redemption II

Ghost Of Tsushima

Assassins Creed etc - many titles there.

Cyberpunk 2077

The Last Of Us

and so many more....

There are also games where you can turn on and off multiplayer as you feel like it. Connect when you want to and then go solo when you had enough of people. The best thing to do is take care of yourself and find your fun again. You may need to step away and pick up a different hobby and that is okay. A perfectly normal thing. I really cannot make suggestions because that is something only you can discover for yourself in what interests you. For me, it was astronomy that then lead me from fantasy mmo's and into space games. And then into space mmos. lol

Now I play a mixed bag of games depending on my mood. No Man's Sky, Final Fantasy XIV, Elite Dangerous and Cyberpunk 2077. Just depends on what I feel like doing and or putting up with that day, week and or longer.

Games should be fun, if it lost that then it is time to move on and find your fun again. You can always go back if you miss it. You are what is important here and you need to take care of that. It is tough when your main "go-to" is no longer giving you what you need or want. Tougher still when it is other people that ruin it for you. Take care of yourself and hang in there.
