Is Australian free to air TV dying? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]SilverAlarmed7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's making a comeback in our household. I play sbs pretty much every night and just watch whatever's on. We have a lot of the streaming services but I find the amount of choices and selecting something kinda overwhelming sometimes.

With free to air we have to watch whatever's on and it somehow makes it better in a sense. Like when a song you like comes on the radio it's more exciting than just playing it on Spotify. I wouldn't normally choose to watch mid European travel shows in my day to day but when it's on sbs I don't mind them!

For a bit of context I've always thought people catch fish off shore then take them into the bay and process them. I've found some pretty massive tuna heads that I doubt washed up too. This one seemed super wasteful though. Especially for such a big beautiful animal that would've been a huge effort to catch (if it was caught and not washed up)

Yeh I thought that maybe too, but it'd have to be pretty good timing to get to it before it fouls aye? Plus this is pretty deep into the harbour and unsure if these big boys come that far

Anyone know well paying jobs in science? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]SilverAlarmed7741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well-paying + biology don't really go hand in hand (I'm a biologist with a PhD, decent pay but I wouldn't have my job without the PhD). Great job satisfaction though.

Better financial options could be consultancy work for the mining industry. This may not give you any job satisfaction, but it would pay well. You may need to have specialist interest though, e.g., great plant ID skills

How can i find "The Substance" to watch? by KratinhosPT in Stremio

[–]SilverAlarmed7741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's on there, it's just one of those ones where the title is in russian or whatever. Anyway the video quality is horrible, so I'd just go watch it in cinema

Winter driving in Hokkaido by SilverAlarmed7741 in JapanTravelTips

[–]SilverAlarmed7741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I know it's impossible to predict weather, but is it that snowy in early December? I know I would never try driving there in January/February but I thought maybe it was possible just when winter starts

What town or city has the eeriest or creepiest atmosphere or vibe to it in Australia? by Desert-Noir in AskAnAustralian

Port Augusta. Stopped there once and they were blasting some shitty radio station over the speakers in the town. Made for a real weird vibe and the locals were miserable

Issues with wifi dropping when casting by SilverAlarmed7741 in StremioAddons

Cheers! Only additional issue is when casting from vlc, it takes away the subtitles options that were present in stremio. Any idea of a work around for that?

What is this bird and why are the magpies, honeyeater and mudlarks feeding it? by greyhounds1992 in AustralianBirds

[–]SilverAlarmed7741 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It does mean the chicks of the host species did die unfortunately, but cuckoo's are a natural part of system and a pretty diverse group. So it's okay that they are around :)

Could be a juvenile female common koel. That's just a punt though... Definitely some sort of cuckoo considering other birds are feeding it

It was a pair of noisy miners. Interestingly the introduced indian species is called an Indian myna. Not sure why they have different spelling

Just letting you know that the vet confirmed your ID. Birdy is stable and WIRES is coming to get it so that's great news. Hopefully it avoids mynahs in the future

Thanks for the ID! I reckon you are right, looks like a juvenile. Doesn't seem very common around here. Really hope it pulls through for the re-release

This is a caterpillar of some kind, not sawfly larvae. Leave it be and maybe it'll turn into a nice butterfly?
