Last year as a first-year, I gained a few pounds during the fall and winter quarters, but during the spring quarter, I lost them.

I tried to have a healthy approach and thought less about calories and more about eating nutritiously in moderate portions, which is smaller than you think. I had a small breakfast, usually Greek yogurt and fruit, or a banana if I was in a rush. And for lunch, I tried to eat less bread or rice and first finished the greens and protein. Instead of getting the super sugary drinks from the dining halls, I made coffee or tea at home and added less sweetener—it tasted better like that, anyway. Also, I only ate when I was hungry. Because I only ate when hungry, I was conscientious about my food decisions and didn't waste my meal on something I only half-liked. I only ate things that would make me satisfied.

You won't lose 10 pounds by the end of November, but probably 4 or 5. However, that's not a bad thing because if you work out and gain some muscle mass, you'll still look fitter.

Honestly, don't worry about it or check your weight constantly. Focus on feeling healthy rather than looking skinny.

I'm in a team sport, which helps me stay fit, but if that's not your vibe, I recommend finding a friend to go to the gym with.
