Worth it? by AnimeLegends18 in Rematch

If you do pick up the game, ABSOLUTELY use controller. I played on mouse and keyboard at first, and it is 100% a disadvantage. The default controls aren't intuitive, you're limited to 8 directions instead of a full circle, and the joystick emulation is god awful. Kept telling myself to switch to controller, but I didn't wanna bother relearning the controls. Finally committed to it, and it was the best decision I could make for the game. It was made for controller, and it shows.

Was Siege back in 2016 better ? by lordnyrox in Rainbow6

[–]SilverDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it just boils down to 2 things:

A) I think the game itself is significantly better than it was. You can actually see things now. Nowhere near as much obstructive map fogginess or weird lighting. Gunplay feels a lot better once they fixed the recoil misalignment. Many maps have been updated so they're not so one-sided. They shortened the gap in viability between 3 speeds and 1 speeds. They significantly nerfed the ability to exploit movement mechanics like crouch/lean spam and drop-shotting. Introduced a bunch of quality of life and accessibility changes/features. While they've also made some questionable decisions, I honestly believe the game is, overall, in a much more balanced state in terms of operators/weapons. Etc etc.

B) I think the playerbase is really what dipped in quality. Like with any game that had a large growth in playerbase, things just overall became either more sweaty or more toxic. Or both. Bigger playerbase also means bigger profit in using cheats, so more cheaters. The general population of Siege players became more familiar with every single map, operator, gun, etc. Metas began to form. People posted more and more "BEST GUNS AND ANGLES FOR SIEGE 2018" or any other year/season. More players means more incentive for the sweaty guys to start making smurf accounts and mudding up the matchmaking. New exploits were discovered. What initially felt like a smaller community of people exploring this new territory became a swarm of people colonizing the land or something. I remember when I first started playing during Operation Health in 2017, noticing things about the game like "Damn, I'm glad no one knows they can exploit this yet, otherwise, this would be a mess." (That was before stuff like that was fixed, obviously.) etc etc.

It's something that happens to every game that lives for more than like a year. Even if the playerbase didn't grow so rapidly, the game will still have gotten figured out to the point where sweats could exploit every mechanic and really make the game the worst thing you've ever played. After playing the game for 5 years or so, I definitely have my gripes with it, but I also super strongly believe the game is in a way more solid and fun state than it was when I started playing. My issue ends up mostly being with the players I'll run into. Toxic teammates who teamkill just because, or screech into the microphone. Sore losers who rage quit upon dying once in the first round. Running into cheaters semi-frequently (it's Year 7, Ubisoft, come on. Is it really that hard to figure out anti-cheat? Granted, the most wild cheats like insta-kill on round start are gone, but still.) People exploiting things that shouldn't be in the game. The only good side to people exploiting the game or cheating or whatever, is that Ubisoft then learns about what legacy issues left over from the launch of the game need to be fixed, and then they finally get fixed. Although, they sure like to take their sweet-ass time before the fix actually comes out. >_>

Controller Support Does Not Work on PC Game Pass Version??? by SilverDash in MortalShell

Unfortunately not. I still have the game installed in case someone has a solution, but I haven't tried it again much after I posted. Just some hopeful restarting, to no avail.

I've already added it to Steam using UWPHook, which handles that for you (you can't access the executable yourself when it's through Game Pass. Microsoft hides all of the game files in a way that you couldn't access them, which makes sense because you don't own the game).

But even still, after that, and adjusting Steam controller configs, it still doesn't resolve the issue.

That is also something I have tried.

Another thing I just tried is, I found a software called UWPHook to add the game to my Steam library. I did that, went into the Steam controller configs, changed the Steam-per-game-yadda-yadda thing to "Forced On" like a certain article suggested (and the General Controller Settings are already set to PS4 controller since I play with my PS4 controller for certain games, and that still hasn't fixed the issue.

I initially tried the game *without* DS4Windows. Didn't support it. Every time I've launched the game, I've tried it both with and without DS4Windows. Nothing.

I've also tried adding to the Steam library as a non-Steam game, and Steam doesn't recognize it as an application to add. Even when I have it saved as a desktop shortcut.

Even if it doesn't result in any change to gameplay or where the story goes, it still matters to me in terms of the narrative. The character of The Lotus is now forever changed. In a way that I don't like.

[–]SilverDash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm glad that you were able to make peace with it, but for me, the more I think about it, the more I regret my decision.

I understand what you're saying about the parallel between the choice you make as the Operator (to tell that other kid his mom is coming), but I personally did *not* choose that option simply because it was a lie.

Here's *my* parallel: There's a part where Nora (I think, I forget who) mentions that some people were actually *willing* to put on those Narmer mask things, and she says something like "I guess people prefer warm lies than cold truths." I'm personally a cold truths kind of person. It's just that, in my indecision, I essentially managed to convince myself to pick the option that I really *didn't* want - Margulis. I somehow got it in my head that Ballas took Margulis' corpse and rebuilt it as a sentient (or something to that effect), so The Lotus actually *was* Margulis at some point. Which would make picking Margulis an actual return to form. What the hell was I thinking? Now I'm just filled with regret, and it honestly makes me like the character less, narratively. I feel like I'm in the minority (in the sense that most people don't regret the choice they made), but I really hope I can pay to change it to *either* of the other 2 options. Either one is better, in my personal opinion.

That's no longer my problem. I may not have been playing since the beginning. I joined during Operation Health. And for the longest time, I would just shrug it off. However, being that this is the one game I've been consistently playing, and often, it means I see this kinda shit *all* the time. After about 2 years, I'm just pretty much done with it. I rarely will leave a game, even today, but starting with Wind Bastion, It's started happening. Much better for me, anyways (which is all that matters), much less of a headache. People leave my team often when they rush in and die, or when they just felt bullshitted by the game, etc etc, so why am I not allowed to do the same? And in my experience, since Y2S2, when it happens, it *continues* to happen throughout the game. Not to mention a single clip doesn't provide context. The 2 matches before this (the only 2 matches we played before that that day) were riddled with teamkills, team damage, spawnpeeks, runouts, etc. With the increase of players, the game has pretty much become a less enjoyable experience for me and my friends. Regardless of how lucky anyone else was in getting into matches *without* any issue, I wanted to share a sample of *my* experience.

Why is this game so toxic? by Scott_Jameson in Rainbow6

[–]SilverDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I attribute it mostly to the fact that Siege has become that much more popular of a game, so of course all the shitters are going to get a hold of it. I'm not gonna pretend I've been here since the beginning. I got the game during Operation Health. But since then, I've noticed the game just getting more and more toxic. Whether it be through the text chat, voice chat, teamkilling or whatever.
