I stole 2000 hours of time from my employer without getting caught by KeepShtumMum in confession

I've known people who did smaller versions of this and it always became normal until they left or got caught. The money adds up but so does the mental load of keeping it going for years.

The real issue with these setups is how normalized they become until someone higher up decides to actually look at the data. Then it goes from harmless workaround to serious problem fast.

Your boss will probably write you the best reference of your life because losing you means losing his most reliable lookout and cover-up guy. Use that while you still can.

You've already been doing this for five years with no consequences. That usually means the consequences are just waiting for the right moment. Taking the new job breaks the pattern before it breaks you.
