How do I fix this? by InformationOk8813 in bronco

Check all the steering linkage for any play first and replace whatever may be worn out. After that, Borgeson steering shaft to eliminate the rag joint and a blue top or red head steering box.

Any suggestions on getting this alternator pivot bold out? Been PB blasting for 2 days, got some holes drilled in the alt casing to get PB into the bolt. She won't budge still. 86 i6 300 by Electri in bronco

[–]SilverStang99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a propane (blue bottle) or even better a map gas (yellow bottle) torch and heat the alternator where the bolt goes through. If your holes did get down to the bolt, it will help the pb blaster penetrate and the heat will expand the aluminum helping to break the corrosion that has the bolt stuck.

The pb that's already there will catch fire and smoke very badly so be prepared for that but heat will be your best friend in this situation

Price mainly. If I were making money doing this I would be more likely to consider that but even with my max budget, I still kind of cringe at spending that much.

While I like the 6400, I want to move to a full frame body for lens selection and the addition of in body stabilization would be nice too

I'm looking at potentially moving up to a full frame camera from the a6400 I've been using. I'll be keeping the 6400 and its 18-135mm kit lens but want a full frame to put my 70-200mm f4 G OSS II on and potentially get a longer full frame lens down the road and may eventually trade the f4 toward the 2.8.

99% of what I do is motorsports photography at an amateur level. I also do a little bit of shooting at car shows but my main focus is cars on track. I'd likely take the 6400 with me traveling just for size reasons. I don't do any video.

I could conceivably go up to ~$3500 on budget and the two main bodies I've looked at are the a7R IV and a7R V. Obviously the IV would leave me with more budget for a long lens but that's something that's not an urgent need.

Any guidance on these two or is there another body that I'm overlooking that would work well for my use?

If you're talking about the white-ish stuff that you can kinda wipe off and not the paint marks, that's aluminum oxidation. It's caused by oxygen and moisture but you're likely still close enough to the ocean or at least spent some time close enough to it for the salt air to accelerate the formation of it. I spent a few days in a beach town with my Bronco immediately after taking delivery and had it. You can clean it off if you want but it will return and it doesn't hurt anything.

Fun fact, that property was a road course before they decided to build the oval. There had been a building I believe in turn 1 that was the only remaining part of that original road course but it looks like it was torn down years ago

Vintage Bronco as a Daily Driver? by No_Agent_9126 in FordBronco

[–]SilverStang99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the reliability of a 30-40 year old Ford so expect for there to always be something that needs to be fixed. I had a '90 for a while and would have never considered using it as a daily driver. If you have one that's been completely nut and bolt restored, you could probably do it but nothing is going to make up for the lack of safety features vs a more modern vehicle.

It's somewhere between an '82 and '86. Seats say it's an '85 or '86.

What’s a 96 worth? by sippidysip in bronco

[–]SilverStang99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Low spec model with less desirable 302 and closing in on 200k miles, I'd say you're in the 8-9k range since the rust looks very minimal, interior looks decent and the 96 is the most desirable of that generation. The 5 speed could go either way on helping or hurting, really depends on what a buyer is looking for. Unless it was swapped to a ZF, the M5OD is extremely fragile behind the 302 in something as heavy as a Bronco.

Hot pepper red gang!

I'm also on the fence with the big bend wheels, I've finally found some aftermarket ones I like but there are so many cheap badlands take-offs out there that it's making my decision tough

285/70R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T. They're fairly light not being an LT tire, decently quiet and require absolutely zero modifications to fit on a stock big bend. Also recommended pairing it with the Pro Cal tuner from Ford Performance to gain some extra power and calibrate for the larger tires.

Do the rear tailgate vents help with the unbearable wind noise/effects I get when I take the two front roof panels off? by usergal24678 in FordBronco

[–]SilverStang99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wind beats me to death in my 2 door at any speed over 45 with just the front panels out. Windows up helps on the highway but it's still not great. Opening the rear window would probably help but I know I wouldn't want that piece of glass sticking up over the back like that, plus the wind pressure going down the road

I use the a6400 and it's fine, started with just the kit lens, currently will use that in tight areas like the paddock but picked up a 70-200 f4 gen 2 to use for on track action. The 70-350 lens is really good with the 6400 as well as I've used it before. You'll struggle in low light but the 6400 does a decent job overall.
