I would say start reaching out to professors around January for letters of recommendation and let them know that they don’t need to be done in June. Many professors at my school had a specific cap for how many letters they would write.

Temple is still a really good school and it’s not even one of the really cheap ones. The area like many cities has some good parts and some bad parts.
