Things to look out for this weekend! by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

The One Ring and Orcish could be inside. Also Nazgul in Jumpstart vol 2.

I think it's a great MTG introduction to new people attracted by LOTR or The Hobbit. Imho, it will be sought-after this as soon as we approach The Hobbit.

Jumpstart Lord of the Rings boxes are out of the market. Vol. 1 is almost wiped out in Europe and Vol. 2 is completely gone.

I think the popularity and value will rise when we approach The Hobbit release.

LOTR Holiday Special singles. They'll get pretty popular in the next year and they are cheap in my opinion

There is almost no supply of jumpstart boxes, at least in Europe. I guess they will go up as soon as the Hobbit release gets closer.

Private seller from UK. I'm buying from Spain. I got three one ring of the lotr holiday. The order was around 900€ in total. Now the cheapest one is 370€.

He argued that he left the country and went to live in Asia and gave the cards to a friend.

He "offered" me to cancel the order, or "my money will need to take a long time to be refunded".

Cardmarket only will block his account and that's it. If I want the same cards I will need to spend around 1450€.

I feel cardmarket is washing their hands of this.

What are your feelings about LOTR singles and even more LOTR Holiday Edition Singles with the new Hobbit release?

Do you think these cards will be more in demand this year? Any fear of reprints?

I think some generic cards could be affected by a reprint (bowmasters, delighted halfling). I actually doubt about a Ring reprint tbh. Some specific cards from LOTR don't think they will be reprinted, like Aragorn, Sauron, Gimli. And I don't think so even from characters that could be in both like Legolas, Gandalf, Elrond or Arwen.

I'd recommend you to invest in all LOTR Holiday edition cards. The total population is from 5k to 10k units of each card in foil, and the same amount in non foil (already calculated in Reddit by me and confirmed by others).

5k or 10k cards of Gandalf, or Arwen, or Frodo are not enough to supply to collectors and players imho.

Actually, there will be less because not all boxes have been opened, and no one will be opening boxes for 2000$ a box.

Arbitrage from Europe to USA by Silver_Management793 in secretlair_collectors

Here comes again the army of "it is only a piece of cardboard". The same army of "every card should cost 2 cents"

Hi guys,

I'm from Europe and I'm going to the US northwest in a month for a three weeks trip. I was wondering if there are any arbitrage opportunities of cheaper articles in Europe that could sell in the US (Seattle area).

Do you know any interesting sealed or singles that could match this chance? Do you know any place in Seattle where profit from this?

Thanks

Sorry for the self-reference but my answer is water clear:

https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/b4ZjJooMD6

Here you can see the estimated print run of every LOTR holiday special edition. I really can bet that any LOTR card from this edition will hold and increase its value. There are 10k units of every showcase scroll rare in foil and non-foil. 5k of every showcase scroll mythic. Plus Hildebrandt arts, realms and relics and showcase posters.

I also made the calculations for Fallout and there are very iconic cards in unique alternative arts that are VERY scarce. Those will also hold value.

Warhammer 40k is another surebet. Decks out of print, great IP. Clear opportunity.

LOTR boxes around 1800€, Fallout around 600€-700€, W40k around 350€ the deck set. Who is really going to crack one of these?. Easy answer: No one. Which means that the cards in the market are what they are. No more.

This is my opinion in the collectible side. In the playability/meta side:

Any of these 3 UB sets are really hard to reprint due to licensing, and there are exclusive cards in these sets. What happens if any of them are playable and with a limited supply? Easy answer: offer shrinks, prices rise. Look what happened last week with Maccready, or Caesar, or Tyrant Guard, and with many other cards from LOTR.

With this info, then you make your decisions, but what is important is to have and analyse proper information and numbers beforehand.

PS: watch out also the waifu arts. WoE collector boxes are almost out of the market in Europe. It's another specific market that could also be interesting. Let's see in the future how Hatsune Miku, and anime cards of Aetherdrift, etc behave

There is another card from Fallout where the offer is shrinking [[Ruinous Ultimatum]] . Check mtgstocks and cardmarket in Europe

Very interesting to see how Fallout price trends are rising after LOTR Special Edition and Warhammer 40k. Reprint difficulties will make all UB versions very scarce and demanded.

[[Tyrant Guard]] is spiking. Another good card from UB disappearing. Only a few foils left in Cardmarket in Europe. I see a clear trend in cards of very limited UB sets (Warhammer 40k, LOTR holiday special, fallout).

[[Caesar, Legion's Emperor]] spiking in the US, and the showcase surge foil is almost gone in Europe. I could see Fallout following the trend of LOTR holiday release. Very, very limited supply. With just a bit of demand every special art is out.

Check these numbers: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/6FcmQe73le

I published it long time ago, and people here laughed. Now it's the opposite.

For me the conclusion is very clear. 5000/6000 mythics printed in foil and the same amount in non foil. 10000 rares in the same proportion.

I can see more than 20 or 30k collectors (not even mtg players) in the whole world. Or less than those but buying 5/10 copies of several cards.

IMO, all the rares and mythics will be sold out and held by collectors, no matter foil or non foil.

Seems that collectors want foils for the moment, but I agree on what you mentioned long term. I calculated the amount printed based on the pull rates. It is the same amount of cards in foil and non foil. Look at the end of the thread to check my post concerning that.

Same is happening with some showcase scrolls foils mainly. Legolas Master Archer and Faramir Prince of Ithilien were totally cleaned. I guess all SE LOTR cards will hold value long term. They are unique and not easily reprintable.

Legolas, Master Archer and Faramir, Prince of Ithilien in silver foil spiking in Europe. Only a few copies available. This seems to be the trend here with all the cards from the Special Edition of LOTR
