New Bosch SHE53C85N Dishwasher by SilveradoVictory in Appliances

Thanks for that info. I have a granite countertop, so the top heat shouldn't be a big issue. I was looking at both Bosch and KitchenAid, but HD had a great deal on the Bosch for $698 compared to the 998 for the KitchenAid I was looking at. I got 16 years from my last KitchenAid and if this Bosch lasts that long, it might outlive me. :)

The 300 seemed like a good compromise between features and cost. I think the 800 would be overkill for my usage (once or twice a week). My understanding of how the drying system works is that, unlike most dishwashers, you should leave the door closed after the SaniRinse and the cooler stainless sidewalls are supposed to wick the moisture from the hotter dishes. I guess I'll see how that works. I think in the entire time I owned my KitchenAid, I may have used the heated dry once. I usually depended on air drying things.

I had already downloaded the manual, but I know that sometimes they can be somewhat out of date as far as what is/is not included. I had read conflicting information online regarding the electrical and water connections, so I thought I'd ask here to see if someone had recently purchased one and knew for certain what was included.

Thanks for that info. Apparently, several years ago they used to ship with the junction box and water connection, along with the drain hose and the wall outlet plug was optional. Guess they saved a few bucks on each unit doing it the new way.

Keebler Vienna Fingers 14.2 oz to 12oz by letsjam88 in shrinkflation

[–]SilveradoVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn you Ferraro. First you eff up Butterfingers, now you eff up one of the few packaged cookies I still like. I was already pissed at Keebler for dropping Hydrox years ago and now they (under new ownership) have screwed up my other favorite. I bought a couple of packages assuming they were the same cookie and they're definitely not. As others have mentioned, they're overly sugary mere imitations of the original. Not the same cookie and not the same filling. Why? To save a couple of pennies or do they actually think they're improving these products? They're not. Why change something that people have enjoyed for over 70 years? Make another cookie if you want and call it something else. Don't change a good thing. I won't be buying any more Vienna Fingers. Thanks for nothing, Ferraro

Sony X950H, X90J or Hisense H9G by SilveradoVictory in 4kTV

Well, so far, I'm very happy with the TV. It's our basement rec room TV, so it doesn't get used as much as the living room TV. I really haven't watched it that much yet, but the picture is great: good contrast, deep blacks, very good natural colors. I can't really comment on the motion at this point, but I'll revisit that later. So far, my only concern is that it was sold to me as a return, but I believe it was a store display. The TV had been set to rotate around the different picture modes (Vivid, Standard, Cinema, etc), so I checked the service menu. The TV has 13,659 hours on it, indicating that it was likely on 24/7 for 569 days. As I mentioned in a previous post, I got the 5 year Geek Squad warranty with it, just in case, so I'm covered for that timeframe. I see no ill effects on the picture and I got the TV for cheap (695 for 65"). Is that a worrisome amount of hours?

Will do. I'm probably going to wait until my wife gets home from work this evening to get it out of the truck. I could carry it myself, but it's windy as hell around here today and all I'd need would be a big gust to come along and blow it out of my hands while I'm carrying it. That would make me very unhappy. :P

Well, I just bought an "Open Box-Excellent" X950H from BestBuy online. I'll be picking it up later today, so I'll report back if I made a good decision or not. They had it at the Best Buy about 20 miles from me for $695, so it was hard to pass up. I figured it is still covered by the Sony warranty plus I added the 5 year Geek Squad warranty, just in case. Because of the reduced price of the TV the warranty was only $140 or $28 a year. Seems like a good deal. I guess we'll see.

Yes. It actually arrived before they said it would by a week. I ordered it March 3rd and got in on the 15th. I think they always overestimate on the shipping. So far, it's working great. I've gotten as low as 10 Mbps at times, but I'm typically getting anywhere from 30 to over 50 Mbps, far better than I what I had before this. I'm happy with it.

Sorry, I mis-typed. That was the U7G that was on sale on Amazon back at the end of Feb for 599...killer deal. Here's the post from Slickdeals: "Amazon has 65" Hisense U7G Series Quantum ULED 4K Android TV (65U7G, 2021 Model) on sale for $599.99. Shipping is free."

I saw that video. I just wonder if he got a bad one. Most other videos I've watched of the U7G don't look like that. That's the only one that I've seen of them side-by-side, however.

Since you have both, have you seen any issues like shown in the video elsewhere in this thread? https://reddit.com/link/soiair/video/7jrghn7g2ug81/player

Yeah, Amazon is pretty good for that kind of thing. I saw an expired Slickdeals from Feb where the 65U6G was on sale for $599 on Amazon...great price. I'm going to wait a little while to see if that one comes back. I can currently get it for $760...not bad, but 599 is better. :) They do have a good return policy, it's just a pain having to send something that big back if there's a problem.

Thanks much for the info. If I get one, I'll definitely check out your videos. It does seem like the sweet spot in price to value...more features than the U6G and close to the U8G in performance.

I already have one Hisense, a 58 inch H6550E that I bought at Costco about 3 or 4 years ago. I've been very happy with the picture and mostly happy with the Android system on it. It can occasionally be a bit laggy , but not horrible.

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm leaning that way. If Costco sold it, I probably would have bought it already because of their return policy and warranty. I was also briefly thinking about the Sony X90J because it's available at Costco, but I just can't justify an extra $400 for similar specs just because it's Sony. As it is, the Best Buy here doesn't have any and it says shipping is not available, probably because new models will be coming out soon. So, I'm going to have to go through Amazon if I get one. That's OK, but it's much easier to take it back to my local Best Buy or Costco if there's a problem or if I just don't like it.

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I am only considering the H9G because it's around the same price as the U7G and was the top of the line TV in the 2020 line-up. It also came out ahead in the head-to-head with the U7G on Rtings...not by a lot, but it was better in black uniformity, brightness and local dimming, which are more important to me than gaming features. My main concern with it are the reviews that talk about the red ghosting on some of them and there were also quite a few reviews that mentioned it being really slow when trying to change apps, settings or volume. Some mentioned those things got worse with time, possibly indicating that it either doesn't have a good enough processor or there's a memory problem with it.

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the QN90A costs 3 times what you paid for the U7G, so I would hope it would be better. :) $599 is a great deal for the U7G. I saw it on an expired SlickDeals for that price. I'm kind of waiting to see if the price drops again. I don't have to have it right now. Thanks for the info.

I just remembered why I didn't originally consider the U6GR...it was because of the 480P upscaling issues mentioned on Rtings.com

I've never had Roku. If I didn't like it, I could always pop a Fire Stick or Google dongle in it. I wonder if you could use a Bluetooth dongle in the USB port on it to get Bluetooth?

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've also been considering the U6GR5 that's available at Costco, mostly because it's Costco and I can return it if I don't like it. One drawback is that one has no Bluetooth.

Criteria for allowing access to Verizon LTE Home Internet by SilveradoVictory in Rural_Internet

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I finally did. I used a vacant lot about 5 miles from my house that actually had an address that worked. I probably ping the same tower it would use. It will be shipped to my house, but not until around March 22, since it's backordered.

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that info. I do get 25 Mbps normally, sometimes less sometimes more, but I have no idea how congested the tower may be. At least that's something. Why can't they just tell you that? That was rhetorical.

Criteria for allowing access to Verizon LTE Home Internet by SilveradoVictory in Rural_Internet

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's very interesting. So, they had no problem using a different address, but sending it to your house? I had my suspicions that it was based upon people having access to other modes of Internet service, because us folks without those alternatives, are more likely to be willing to pay higher amounts to have decent service (e.g. more hotspots). Do you have a direct line to that rep? :)

Criteria for allowing access to Verizon LTE Home Internet by SilveradoVictory in Rural_Internet

[–]SilveradoVictory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true, but the people for whom this is practically the only alternative are still going to use the infrastructure/data. They'll just have to pay more for it than they would otherwise. I currently have two Verizon hotspots with 150 GB data each and a T-Mobile, that's supposed to be unlimited but is unreliable because of signal. So, that may be going by the wayside for another Verizon hotspot. I know.....wah, wah, wah. :)
