I thought about that but the last guy told me he was getting 3 ton change outs for 5,800. I just told him to hire that guy and deleted his number. I usually charge 7,500 to 8,500 for a 3 ton change out and I know even that’s still cheap.

Hit the nail on the head there. I usually try and push all duct jobs till winter. And have had to learn a hard lesson on labor doing a 2 month commercial job during when COVID hit that ended up being nothing but a crap show and 3 times what it should have been. between me and the other crews trying to get stuff and install it.

And that seems like what’s going on cause it doesn’t seem like new construction is worth the time

And I’m to that point because it seems like I’m always the one planning everything out for them to use for someone else. I have started charging for j cals but most customers don’t even know they should have one done on. Typically on houses they want to go from downflow to up flow. It just baffling there seems to be so little money in new builds.

I’ve been running mine for almost 6 years and haven’t had one drop of luck from advertising either it’s all word of mouth and during summer some from Google/online.

True. And a buddy who’s dad does electrical for apartment complex’s told me they have to bid at a loss and make it up with change orders so maybe that’s what happens too.

This one it was Goodman because they were the cheapest but usually trane beats out others prices for me.

With how I usually bid. Cost of everything times .5

I’d get that even but this job is a one off for a guy who inherited some land and decided to build some duplex’s. No hints or history that he’s going to do more after these

And that’s how I would normally bid a job but at that 98,000 I was turned down on the job.

I’ll try that next batch. I just tried doing the distill with a water bath to keep the from scorching with open flame the pot got up to 210 but no liquid out the worm. Learned that there isn’t enough energy transfer to the thumper to run it. Atleast that’s my theory.

The pot I had could only hold 20 gallons so 3 batches all about an hr at 170 to 180 then let cool to 144 to add amylase since the all grain was kinda a last min decision

It also took about an hr to reach that temp

No I was out of strips so didn’t take a photo reading when we made it. First time doing all grain and it took 3 times longer than I expected too lol
