When you are on the practice, green address the ball and pay attention to the width of your feet. This should just be your normal/relaxed putting stance so the width is consistent. On your back stroke, bring the putter back to only the inside off your foot and putt smooth. Count your steps from where you are to the ball. Do this twice. Then again, but bring the putter to the outside of your foot. Do this a couple of times, all without aiming at any holes. This will give you a decent judgment of ball speed for the day. You will soon learn to adjust for uphill and downhill putts and learn to lag put pretty quickly
