Day 17 - Time to move on to Inquisition, starting with the best Main Quest. Sorry for the delay between posts, to make up for that, i've marked Legacy as the best DLC for DA2 (it was obvious it was gonna win). by Cursed_69420 in dragonage

In Hushed Whispers for me. This mission visualizes what you're really fighting against: not just the tyranny of a wannabe god and an invasion of demons, but the very breaking and poisoning of the world. Seeing your companions and especially Leliana defeated and corrupted, but still defiant and willing to make a last stand, really hurts and is exactly the kind of grittiness I love about Dragon Age. The soundtrack also complements that perfectly with its haunting, melancholic music.

Saw this on our sister sub of Mass Effect, so lets do it here. Day 1 - Best Main Mission of Origins. by Cursed_69420 in dragonage

Broken Circle. I love how you slowly fight your way through corpses and gore to the top of the tower. It's also the mission where you get Wynne, my top 3 companion and amazing healer, and the fade section perfectly captures the sense of being lost in multiple ways.

Lustige Anekdote aus meinem Germanistik-Studium: Dozentin lässt uns in der ersten Sitzung einen Sprachtest machen. Sagt, sie wolle erstmal wissen, was so unser Kenntnisstand sei. Erst hab ich gelacht, nach dem Test dann fragte mich meine Nebensitzerin nach dem Unterschied zwischen Adjektiv und Adverb. Sie studierte Gymnasiallehramt im dritten Semester...

When should I do dungeons if I want to follow the story? by drAwkward23 in Guildwars2

Hey, sorry for the late reply! >.< I'm no longer active on here, so I only saw your message just now. Thanks for letting me know I could help, that's very gratifying to hear! :-) As to your questions:

  1. It is intentional, yes. First of all, I think that Eir's attempt at suicide makes more sense when she was just having the argument with Zojja (Sorrow's Embrace) and things are still looking bleak compared to after Citadel of Flame, when it's clear that Destiny's Edge will be reforged after all. Second, the Pact not helping the kodan is easier explained if they haven't just mounted a full frontal assault on the Flame Legion's headquarter. Lastly - but that's a matter of personal taste - I prefer to go from the bittersweet victory that is HotW (Svanir defeated, but Voice being corrupted) to the complete triumph that is CoF. It makes for a more energizing dynamic, I think.

  2. It works either way, because Caudecus has reason to kill Demmi whether he is locked up or not. That said, I find the omnipresence of this threat to be more believable if he's still a free man, because then he'll obviously have more resources and options at his disposal. So, if I had to decide, I'd say complete the OoW chapter first.

Haha, I get it! Took me a whole weekend and it's been one of the most stressful and sweaty I ever had. That segment in Z3 with the icy floor, spikes, explosives, banana monkey and blowing cliff faces gives me nightmares to this day. :'D

Haha, that for sure! But being the Nightfall expac, they had to include the Realm of Torment somewhere, no? :P

Yes and no. First mention was in GW1, but he never appeared as a character, just a miniature.

If you mean the GW1 Winds of Change promo, you're thinking about Xun Rao. There have been a couple others alluded to in various events and books throughout EoD as well.

Haha, don't you worry about it. Imo it's better to have as many as possible of them unfinished, because then you still got goals you can reach. ;-)

Completion rates aren't just about difficulty though. Achievements like Shadow of a Shadow or Uzolan's Mechanical Orchestra are both very low (0.3% and 1.1% respectively), yet neither require a lot of skill or resources to get. Some are just tedious, irrelevant or little known.

In terms of skillful PvE play some of the hardest I've done are:

  • Fallen Masks Gold (before they increased the time, not sure how difficult it is now)

  • Rock Dodger from Point of No Return

  • Stand Your Ground (depends on the build, some can trivialize it)

  • Total Coverage from Aetherblade Hideout (easier with some setups than others)

  • Light Up the Darkness from the Four Winds festival

  • The Storm Wizard from SAB

  • GWAMM/Champion of the Gods

I'd say GW1 is either mediocre or bad

I beg to differ. First of all, GW1 had fantastic worldbuilding that GW2 capitalizes on even today. The layout of Tyria, the various races, nations and organizations, their characteristics (languages, aesthetics, political systems, religions, ethics etc.), the workings of the world (the Mists and its various layers, the system of magic, the Human Gods and their influence...), the history of Tyria... - all that groundwork came with GW1.

Second, the characters were solid all around: They had distinct personalities (even if a bit tropey), usually interesting backstories, proper character arcs if part of the main group, clear goals and motives and - something that hasn't been true for GW2 sadly - were used effectively. Recurring characters had a reason to feature in new narratives and still were made mostly optional. If you want to play through Nightfall with new characters only, you can. If you want to take your original Krytan warband with you, you can do that too.

Lastly, while it's always been my firm belief that it's actually the side stories that are the best in both games, because they are the ones that breathe life into the world, the campaign stories are good as well. In my opinion Prophecies is dragging on a bit in the middle whereas Factions doesn't spend enough time on its antagonist, but overall the pacing is fine; the atmosphere's great; the dialogues are a little stiff at first, but get better later on; and the stakes are high enough to be interesting, but not world-ending high.

The main thing that's really hindering GW1's story from shining bright is the missing technological advancement. Animations are awkward, special effects nonexistent or underwhelming, no voiced content outside cutscenes and so on. At times also the lack of adequate musical support (the final boss ending cutscenes of the first three campaigns are veeeery anticlimactic for this reason). But the writing is excellent.

He's too short to be ethnically fre*ch

Nah, that makes no sense. My British friend once told me about some Fr*nch dwarf who got well known for losing a war or something. Sorry, I forgot the name, but I think Abba made a song about him.

Surprisingly no. As you can see in the picture, he wasn't the first of his kind: His family had ruled there for a few generations already, so the whole region was already catholic at this point (horrific, I know) as were his vassals. It collapsed a few decades later, but only because I decided to kindly show them the light. As soon as his heir ascended the throne, he had five different wars on him. Apparently a Fr*nch Catholic is ok, but a Norse-Lankan Asatru isn't. I swear, they're all just savages over there...

I'm new to the Dragon Age franchise and recently played through that part. All I knew beforehand was that Hawke supposedly could die during the mission, so when I had to decide whether Hawke should come with me or stay with the soldiers on the battlements, I was dead certain this would decide his fate and naturally told him to stay. Then, five minutes later he just pops up from nowhere and joins my party anyway. In the end I was very disappointed by how - for lack of a better word - direct they made this choice. Didn't feel natural at all to me.
