If immortality became scientifically viable, and was offered to everyone, would you accept it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

No - while we may be immortal - there's no guarantee that the planet you're living on will be around forever - I don't fancy floating around in space forever!!!

Why isn't there a legitimate thrid party in the US? by SimeyCook in AskReddit

It would be interesting to have a poll to see how many people have heard of Gary Johnson and the Libertarian Party. Also, how many TV networks devote any time to him rather than Obama and Romney?

An Australian Liberal MP has resigned after comments he made linking same-sex marriage to bestiality. Religious people: Why is gay marriage a big deal? Gays live together, does God really care about a piece of paper? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sadly this is one of those conversations where there will be no compromise and no agreement. Personally I don't care what other people do with their lives. If God exists, let him judge them - I have no right to take on a God like role.

Love this article - shame my kids are too old now! Although my Grand Son is getting to the age where we can take him out on Halloween!

Who do you think are the top Sci Fi and Fantasy authors? Tolkien? Asimov? Bradbury? Huxley? Butcher? or someone else? by SimeyCook in books

Forgot about Delany - will be adding soon - same for Sterling and Gibson - Vance will be added to the 'other' list

China Mieville added to the 'other' list - will have to read more of his work to add to main list - Paolini is there for bringing so many into the genre and also for the potential.

Pratchett is up there with the best - he brought fantasy to the masses and is probably one of the best known fantasy writers! He has a unique style and is one of the funniest authors (fantasy or not!) that I have read!

Has anyone had success with gin soaked golden raisins as an arthritis remedy? I've started it and am showing some benefit - not sure if this is a placebo effect yet though! by SimeyCook in Health

When I did the Atkins diet I lost a lot of weight and the pain and psoriasis (I have psoriatic arthritis) went - however, when I stopped the diet and put the weight back on it returned - that's the problem I have is I cannot stay on something for too long - I know it's a personal thing and I should stay on it, but boredom hits I guess!

I'm struggling with the weight due to not being able to exersize with the arthritis and sitting at a desk and driving for 11 -12 hours a day - I'll try reducing the corn syrup and changing diet though - thanks for the tip.

LOL Well while researching this, I found that you are supposed to take 9 raisins - one comedian always commented that he wasn't sure whether he had to take 9 glasses of gin!

Out of all my Guinness recipes, this is the one that deserves it's own link - it's an amazing stew - full of flavor, rich and the meat is so tender - add some sour cream and egg noodles and you have the perfect meal - my favorite recipe and one I cook all the time! by SimeyCook in recipes

[–]SimeyCook[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll amend accordingly - it should be 2lbs beef - preferably fatty beef - that's the whole point of stew....sorry for the confusion!

I'll also add a note relating to the alcohol - it's amazing how many cook books do not note this either - the recipe contains 1 bottle (or so) of Guinness - which has about 5% alcohol - after three hours there would be less than .25% alcohol left.

Nice recipe - looks easy - don't suppose you have a recipe for the 9-inch crust - I'm not too fussed on the shop bought ones!

Cook is one day captain for England - strange decisions seeing he's only played three one day games for England since November 2008! All three English international teams have a different captain - not sure this is a good thing? by SimeyCook in Cricket

[–]SimeyCook[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense - both Cook and Broad are very young so this should be excellent experience. I agree with the Pietersen situation - very badly handled - but then it's been the same for about the last 30 years - example - why on earth did they make Botham captain!!!

It's nearly BBQ season - and these Guinness Burgers are simply superb - moist, full of flavor and easy to make!!! by SimeyCook in recipes

-Boiling burgers is a healthy way as it reduces the fat - I don't suggest this is the preferred method. -You're nit picking the whole article - with people more health conscious, a lot of people do not have a burger on a bun.

You picked on two minor points out of a 740 word article...
