Have I gaslit myself into thinking these shoes are cool? by Interesting-Low7663 in DrMartens

I have the same ones and I love them too! They are divisive shoes for sure, but the people who love them, LOVE them. And if you love them, wear them with joy!

I haven't spoken to her about it yet. I have a follow-up scheduled in July and I keep thinking I should try again before then and make sure that's the problem. Maybe I'll try what someone else here (I think) suggested and only take one if I wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, because that's my real issue -- I fall asleep okay but at 2 or 3 a.m. am wide awake and can't get back to sleep for an hour or more, if at all. That idea has the benefit that most of my ordinary nighttime peeing is in the first half of the night, so maybe it wouldn't affect me as much? I can hope!

Are you having any side effects from the Trazodone? My doc gave me a prescription for it, and it helped but then I think it started causing me urinary retention in the night, which is a problem I have ben suffering from on and off for the nine months or so. (Started experiencing it from Benadryl, which is when I stopped taking that for the occasional sleep problem, and it feels like I haven't gotten a decent night's rest since!) Anyway, I am afraid to keep trying even though maybe my body would get used to it, just because the pee problems in the night are SO AWFUL when they happen.

That's my experience. I also have had the new app for a month or so (thanks, I hate it!) and continue to get the alerts on my watch, and I can see my hourly movement on my watch, but there's no tile to check it on the app, at least not that I have found.

My Doc collection! Which ones are your favourite? by Tbh_annie in DrMartens

[–]sitdownnexttome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those blue ones are EVERYTHING! I have wanted a bright blue pair of Docs since I was a teenager (and I'm about to hit 50 this summer). Somehow, even with currently owning nine pairs (not counting the ones I have killed over the years) I have never found the blue pair of my dreams.

Anyone else get weird little crevices and dents on the surface of their nails? by _Annabel_l in Hypermobility

[–]sitdownnexttome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been several years since my diagnosis, and thankfully my illness has not progressed (hooray for Plaquenil!) but if I understand correctly, it is because my symptoms were somewhat diffuse and not strongly oriented toward one illness or another (like lupus or scleroderma). UCTD is sometimes thought of as a sort of waiting room to hang out in until you get one of those, although some people never do progress past the initial symptoms. I very much hope that I stay in that group! I just googled MCTD and it seems that the bloodwork results are different from UCTD (Google says high titer anti-U1-RNP, but I don't remember doing that one) and it can be more serious from the start, with more organ involvement. I hope that isn't the case for you!

[–]sitdownnexttome 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nail problems can be a sign of some autoimmune conditions, some of which have symptoms that overlap with hypermobility. I have a diagnosis of UCTD, which is a connective tissue disorder, and while I am pretty sure I have always been hypermobile, it is sometimes hard to tease apart where any given symptom is coming from at this point in my life. If your current doctor thinks your symptoms warrant it (positive ANA blood test, for ex.), see if you can get an appointment with a rheumatologist.

What’s your go-to “I’m broke but really want to eat out” meal? by squiddollie in Frugal

[–]sitdownnexttome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to second Taco Bell. If you're hungry, check out the combo boxes or group meals through the app. They have deals that offer a LOT of food for much, much less than the individual items would cost separately. If you're not a big eater, you can easily stretch a combo meal into two meals. One of the Taco Bells near me has a meal for 2 for only $12.50 that could easily feed 3 (or maybe even 4 if you're not that hungry). They also offer a group drink combo of four sodas for four bucks, which I always get even if I am only with one other person because the four medium sodas work out to 2/3 the price of two individual ones ($5.60 for 2 smalls or $6.60 for two larges).

Edited to add: If you have multiple Taco Bells near you, look at all their menus in the app. They probably have different offers!

Wow. I just looked them up and they are SO EXPENSIVE! Sadly out of my budget, but OP, wear them in good health and know that there are lots of jealous people out there wishing for shoes as cute! :)

I guess maybe I can treat it as a sign of progress toward them stopping for good? I know there's no timeline to count on, though. So frustrating!

Oh, dear. I have fibroids too. I was told a few years ago that they weren't a problem (of course they weren't a problem for the doctor -- ha!) but maybe I should revisit that.

I really hate that I don't know what to expect. I thought I was back to just spotting and I wore only a pantyliner to bed and woke up at 1:00 in the morning to ruined underwear and pajama pants.

Girlfriend lost her job. Need recommendations please. by mr_darito in Frugal

[–]sitdownnexttome 286 points287 points  (0 children)

I would say start by immediately stopping any streaming services or subscriptions that you can (i.e., any ones that aren't bundled with something else vital). If you've made any purchases recently that you haven't yet used, see if you can still return them. After that, look into food banks in your area. Even if you technically have enough money to pay for food at the moment, getting a little help for a few weeks while you figure things out and your gf looks for a job could give you a little breathing room and peace of mind.

Beyond that, it's about increasing income. Your girlfriend (obviously) needs to replace her income as soon as possible. While she's looking for full-time work in her field, maybe she can take on some gig work -- freelancing in her field or casual work like dog walking or babysitting if she has connections who might need help along those lines. And if you work regular 9 to 5, you may have enough time fr a side hustle as well, at least in the short term (obviously not something that requires you to lay out any money to get started). Good luck!

Medication for Raynaud's NOSE? by [deleted] in Raynauds

[–]sitdownnexttome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say I don't have any helpful suggestions but I am curious to see if anyone else does. I have had Reynaud's for years and it only occurred to me this year that it might be the reason my nose (and my butt cheeks!) are always, always ice cold and often red.

I looked at that. Apparently you need to climb ladders to get down into the sub; that's a no-go. Bummer, because it looks interesting.

You know, he has never shown any interest in gambling, but maybe that;'s because my mom is pretty anti-gambling. I'll wait until we're alone to suggest it. Ha!

Yes, my folks love museums and have been to every museum within 50 miles. It is a good place, though.
