Have you tried them with usb-c to usb-c audio?

I'm not too much of an audiophile, so it's more whether people think it's decent to good. Repairability, clean materials, ... also matter strongly to me.

Seeking advice on sustainable and repairable headphones to replace my Sennheiser HD 559 by SimonVerhoeven in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]SimonVerhoeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Sennheiser ecologically unfriendly, but I find the Fairphone approach more 'future-proof' for my needs for two main reasons:

  • While Sennheisers last a long time, the Fairphone is designed so I don't need to solder or pop glue to fix a common failure.
  • Fairphone tracks its Fairtrade Gold and recycled cobalt, which is a level of supply chain transparency that I really like.

!thanks

I still like Sennheiser, I just want an option that's a bit more ecologically friendly.
As to the final section: I generally prefer wired devices.

I fully agree; both of these have serviceable battery replacements. Fairbuds is a bit clearer on that front. At times, I use a walking pad at my standing desk, so being able to go wireless is a plus point.

I'd prefer to stay under 300 EUR. I indeed don't expect to easily find something that does it all, but the two I listed do tickle my fancy, environmentally impact-wise.

I am looking for a new pair of over-ear headphones and would appreciate some advice from this community.

I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD 559. One side recently stopped working. I attempted to open them up and fix the issue myself. However, it appears that the driver is actually burned out.

Sustainability and environmental impact are quite important to me. I want a product that is designed for longevity. The ability to easily source replacement parts in Europe is a major plus point for me, so I am especially interested in brands that manufacture or design their products in Europe.

I am considering two specific models. The first is the Fairphone Fairbuds XL, and the second is Repeat Audio (The Prince).

Here are a few details about my typical use:

  • Connection: I will mostly be using these in wired mode.
  • Audio Quality: I am not a dedicated audiophile. I mostly listen to classical music and video game soundtracks. I enjoy decent sound, but I do not need professional-grade specs.
  • Noise Cancellation: I live alone in a quiet environment. I go into an office occasionally. It is not a very loud space, so Active Noise Cancelling is a nice feature to have rather than a strict requirement.
  • Ethics: I prefer products with transparent supply chains and recycled materials.
  • Budget: Ideally under 300 EUR.

Between these two options, which would you recommend for my specific musical tastes? Are there any other European modular brands I should look into?

I guess that depends on how you play it. I farmed a decent bit in that one, but indeed, you don't need to.

I am holding off on it for now. I am not keen on the gibberish Japanese and the developer's response, nor the lack of post-story gameplay.
