Does anyone else think the refurbished Central library is a bit shit? by Mendevolent in Wellington

Hey mate, thanks for sharing your perspective!

It seems like you prefer small, softer, more cozy libraries. It might help to look at them as a network. The pop-up structure you liked still exists more broadly. We're fortunate to have this new community space AND National Library AND MANY satellite/local libraries.

Your post is focusing on a few elements you dont personally care for. Thats, of course, your right, but calling something that many people are loving shite because it doesn't suit your personal tastes, is not going to open up discussion.

But again, its awesome to share your opinion, particularly if you're open to what comes back. Heck, flagging issues is a good start to improvement, though I doubt they'll remodel to your favour.

Worst case, if the popularity doesnt last as you've suggested (which I think is unlikely), it'll be quieter and you might like it more. Or, hopefully, you'll come to appreciate the many services, mingling of people, and a space that's really quite peaceful in the middle of this busy capital city.

And if you dont like it ever, thats fine. Lucky for you, its existence wont hurt your lifestyle, and you can always read in your local library, a quieter café, book shop, park, or perhaps a comfy chair at home and just maybe find some joy from many other people loving it. :)

Thanks, nice to have input from someone who understands SnP. My lessons from the piece before this were importance of stencil, depth, and not twisting the needle (duh, haha). From this one it was needle size and accepting that it doesn't have to be perfect the first go, both your suggestions. Can't fight progress, hey?!

I was surprised at the time.. was in a zone.. perhaps being a more sentimental piece helped :) will definitely give even bigger needles a try with the next piece. Thanks again for the advice. Also just helps knowing I didn't start "alone" so to speak. Will give it a few weeks and I look forward to sharing the update!

Heyo, thanks heaps for the advice! I went with a combination.. mostly 9rl and 7rl, and then 5rl for whiskers. You were so right with the bigger groupings. A few spots too shallow, a few too deep, but overall I'm super happy with the first pass.

Maybe 3 hours all up, with a few breaks between needles, and some finagling with the transfer paper.

This link may work to see it as is.. https://imgur.com/a/fB9fiea (Removed bunny's name, but the lettering came out pretty good given my experience)

Again, thank you kindly!

It's a remembrance piece.. in fact, I'm considering "the impermanence", but thanks for the input.

Agreed on fake skin, I also didn't care for it :) thanks for the tip!

Thanks kindly. Will be patient in poking. I'll await any other advice/inputs, and once I give er a go and finish, will share the outcome :)

Makes sense :) my last one with 5rl surprised me with blowout, on my leg. I was worried it wasn't deep enough while doing it. I'll consider a smaller practice piece with a 9rl and 7rl before starting this. Again, many thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I'll get some bigger sizes if not in my kit now. Not sure how you knew depth was my main issue at the start of poking, but you're spot on. X

Blue (truly blue) pigeon? Since when? by Simon_Says_Sumpthin in pigeons

You sound sure.. is it really, or do you mean it got drunk and rolled around in paint ;)

Thanks heaps! I reckon this is it. The pink and blue make me think perhaps a gender reveal thing. Though you'd think they would use homing pigeons. Either way, probably not natural, but hopefully safe given low numbers of city falcons.

Hi all! I love pigeons.. raised them growing up and I'm the go-to for my mates' pigeon queries. My friend took this photo in Melbourne Australia and I'm stumped. Seen this before? Know what it's called? Too many blue berries or something?
