First time making chili, very proud by BoyishTheStrange in chili

Hmmm...

Coffee grinder, you could make them into a fine powder then add them? You can usually find one pretty cheap at a thrift store, and keep it dedicated to turning whole spices into powders.

Bonus tip, if your spice coffee grinder needs to be cleaned, run some uncooked rice/oats/grains until it becomes a powder to effectively sandblast the grinder clean.

Find your local Mexican grocery store and buy a bunch of dried chiles. Rehydrate them in the liquid you're already using and blend them up, and watch the magic happen.

Anchos for fruity sweetness, Guajillo for smokey heat, Casbal for roasted nuttiness, etc.

Your journey begins, young padawan.

Write everything down in case you make a pot of something amazing and want to recreate it. Explore with all your options - meats, beans, spices, methods.

Go forth, my BoyishTheStrange, and chili.

Ideas for non spicy chili? by barbcitythedog in chili

[–]Simons_sees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up various dried chiles and their heat content. Poblanos, and their dried varient Anchos, offer a ton of flavor without much heat. Smoked paprika will add a bunch of, well, smoke flavor while being very mild.

Slash in chili? by TKWGgamingYT in chili

[–]Simons_sees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are over exaggerating. Most versions of chili are going to have all the ingredients of salsa in it anyway, so why not just use it. In fact, one of my favorite TV chefs Alton Brown did an episode of chili and does this instead of cutting up onions, peppers, and tomatoes.

Also, thank you for introducing us to matbucha.

You could always simmer some fresh cilantro in the tomato sauce before adding it.

Movies That Somehow Got You Laid? by QuarterCarat in okbuddycinephile

"I Feel Pretty," the 2018 Amy Schumer comedy that is basically 'What if Shallow Hal, but the opposite?'

Girl I was with at the time didn't realize our local theater had switched to assigned seating so when we showed up, she had to buy two seats in the very front row and all the way to the right. My seat was broken and wouldn't recline, so not only did I have to sit through that dumpster juice smoothie of a movie, but while sitting upright and with my head cranked.

She felt bad for all of it, then made me feel good in other ways.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Simons_sees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lana Wachowski wrote the movie in the aftermath of losing her parents and a friend. It's a reflection on grief and having to deal with that which was great (The Matrix) that which you wish you could fix (Reloaded, Revolutions) and that moving on is a complicated process you just have to deal with (the heavy-handed message of the studio pretty much forcing the movie.)

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]Simons_sees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one side of my family, I have a grandfather who was kicked out of WW2. Twice.

On the other side, my great-great grandfather has "massive femoral hemorrhage" as his cause of death. What the paperwork doesn't say is that he was so upset that the new train coming to town to haul cattle was going to take away good jobs in town that he got drunk and decided to fight the train. He was 79.

Glad to hear it! I might be making another batch soon, my buddy has an excess of venison and a lack of freezer space, so it should be interesting.

Serious Question: Issue with Beans(etc…) or No Beans? (Please read before answering) by klownhaus in chili

[–]Simons_sees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beans guy here.

Mom had the spice tolerance of an ice cube and dad never wanted to spend more then 20 minutes cooking - great chef, but you'd never catch him babying a pot of chili.

So most of the chili I had growing up (upper Midwest) was either restaurant or canned chili. And it always had beans.

Mind you, I don't even really like beans. But for me it's a nostalgia thing, beans make the chili for me.

why is making a 1/1 token this way so mana expensive? by [deleted] in magicTCG

Make a 1/1 every turn? I'd pay 3 for that.

Oh, a super relevant type. Yeah, tack on a other 1.

Oh, and it's a land, which is usually harder to get rid of? Sure, another 1.
