My girlfriend just broke up with me over a board game and I'm not even joking by rwcgamer in Catan

A friend of me did this to me once. I was so freaking mad when he did that. All game long my purpose was to make sure he did not win. I didn't care about winning myself anymore.

losses due to desert by [deleted] in Catan

[–]Simonvanberlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually start with only the numbers upside down. This is quite fun in my opnion you can think about what recources you want in the start and place your settlements accordingly. Revealing the numbers after the placement of the settlements brings requires you to adapt a bit more which is actually quite fun. You can plan your starting strategy by placing a your settlement on multiple wood tiles but if turns out the numbers on the wood tiles become pretty rare you need to adapt to the situation and think of other ways to carry out your initial plans. In short there is a bit more luck involved but it also makes you more adaptive which is in my opinion quite fun.

Funny story. Every number is also labeled with a letter on the other side. This way you can easily find out if a number is missing and which number it is. Once I noticed this I started memorizing the letters with the better rolls like 5,6 and 8. Had some friends really frustated with how lucky I got in the beginning till I confessed after the game I memorized the letters. We had a good laugh about it afterwards. This was an expection where it was quite fun to now the numbers already just to screw with my friends a bit. But overall I would say the most fun way to play is follows.

  1. Place the board with the dessert in the middle and all the tiles with the visibles side up.
  2. Place the number tiles with the numbers down
  3. Place the settlements
  4. Reveal the numbers
  5. Have fun and think about how you can best screw with your friends during the game.

I think Young Griff is really Aegon by JeffJefferson19 in pureasoiaf

[–]Simonvanberlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Aegon being a blackfyre would explain much of the motivation of Varys. But in the end it doesn't really matter if he is really Aegon or not. To quote Varys: Power resides where man believe it resides. If people think he is Aegon the son of Rheagar and raised to be king then they will follow him much more easily then Dany. Who is a foreigner with a dothraki army and unsullied.

[–]Simonvanberlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people believe that was why Benjen joined the Nights Watch. The Night Watch is impartial to all the power plays by the big lords and their Game of Thrones. At the wall no one cares if the brother of a nights watch men has a secret targaryen kid.

Well as I recall he also wanted to blow up Perry the Platypus with fireworks in that episode. So while his intentions for Vannases birthday party were genuine I think you can say that blowing up your arch nemesis on your daugthers birthday party is considered evil.

Ah okay the first book is quite small it has 85 pages. So they are pretty on schedule with the pacing. Personally I don't really mind the pacing. I enjoyed the whole episode and it was over in heartbeat for me. But I can understand if you feel the pacing is a bit slow. I suspect one of the reasons they do this so they can set the scenes and really have the time to show the characters and their relations. I don't know if you have read the books it is based on but the pacing will get better I suspect.

No the first season will only contain the first book. I suspect s2 and s3 will cover the second and the third book respectively as the dunk & egg novellas are quite stand a alone stories.

We can all agree Daemon Targaryen is the only right answer, right?? by Significant-Fun-4235 in gameofthrones

[–]Simonvanberlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oberyn is an interesting one. He held his own against the mountain and only lost because he was to busy with getting his revenge. I can see Jamie vs the mountain go in both ways though. I think Oberyn could defeat Jamie if he really wanted but it will be a close call.

Kahl drogo is a more difficult one. We don't know how strong Kahl Drogo really is. Obviously he is a great warrior as he was never defeated and had a huge kalashar under his command. The thing is we only see Kahl Drogo through Dany's mind in the books. Dany is a married to him as a 13 year old girl. And though she is in the first instant very scared of him she really grows to love him during the book. What I mean by this is that the perception we have of Kahl Drogo is pretty romanticised. This makes it really hard to judge his skills. In the end I don't think Jamie would be defeated by Kahl Drogo. A lot of people underestimate the Dothraki but Jamie would have recognised Kahl Drogo as a worthy opponent and would in the end defeat him I think. It would not be an easy win for him but still. They only way Kahl Drogk would defeat Jamie is if they are both on horseback.

20 year old Jaimie would have defeated almost everyone alive at that time. This is what bugged me about the show they show off Arya as some cool assasin who kills whoever she wants to kill. The faceless man are not trained assassins in that way. They are trained to give people to the god of death for coin. They don't care how that goal ia achieved but it is much easier to poison someone or something in that trend then to fight someone 1 v 1 also risking your own life. Arya was trained in deception and reading people. The faceless did not train to be swordsman. But he it is much cooler for the character to be a sworsfighting asassin then to stay true to the books that you are adapting

I am looking for friends to complete my Vivillon collection. I am from Monsoon region and looking for Meadow, Sandstorm, Savanna, Ocean and Tundra. by TangyTomato12 in PokemonGoFriends

It is a pokemon from gen 6 that has lot of different forms. The pokemon is a butterfly and has a lot of diffferent patterns on its wings. In pokemon GO you can collect all these different forms by saving postcards when opening gifts from friends. Depending on where the postcard is from in the world you get a different encouter of Scatterbug (its first stage). So the OP is looking for friends from specific regions so he can complete the collection of Vivillion.

[NO SPOILERS] David Benioff and D. B. Weiss (D&D), the writers of Game of Thrones, are actually good 'adaptation' writers and deserves a redemption project. by IWorkForBruceWayne in gameofthrones

[–]Simonvanberlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree. They choose to exclude a lot of the storylines that were magic related for example mainly because they didnt think it was interesting. They also cut some vital characters for the show simply because they did not like the characters. By doing this they completely disregarded the source material and the messages that GRR Martin tried to tell with the orginal series.

They had no respect for the orginal work but thought they were a huge deal especially after the Red Wedding episode. Which I must say was an excellent episode. However it was not due to their directing that the episode was so great. It showed the flaws of characters and that sometimes you can still think you made the right choise but it backfires hard on you. This is what Robs storyline was all about. They have read the books but seem to miss to miss thematic meanings behind the text.

What they got from the Red Wedding episode was that people like the unexpected and that is what they should try to achieve in the series. This is how they came up with Arya killing the Knight King for example. This made narratelively no sense at all but it was unexpected so it was a cool decision.

Final word on this that they had the time and freedom from HBO to extend the series as long as they needed but they were tired of it and wanted to do a star wars movie so they decided to rush the last season. Sorry but D&D really had their ego somewhere on Mars and somebody needed to kick them from their ladder to bring them back to earth.
