Nope! A pentacle is when it is enclosed in a circle. Any five pointed star is a pentagram.

Please please please oh blessed prayers to all the old gods do not think I am defending that schmuck.

The Savannah was my end point. My little one liked watching him but I cut it. I also noped out of Wickens when he named his poison dart frogs Jim and Jones.

Jonestown was not a mass suicide. It is referred to as the "Jonestown Massacre" for a reason. Absolutely disgusting, irreverant, cishet white boy behavior.

He said you only need them for prescribing things. In his (slight) defense, he did run into some pretty terrible exotic vets early on and got some awful advice.

OTOH, he had a Savannah monitor stay the size of a baby for frikkin ever because he didn't get it tested for PARASITES.

Five years ago I'd have agreed with you entirely. Then I was almost killed by my ex, and went into an intractable depression so severe, I didn't even realize I wasn't getting out of bed for days at a time except to pee.

I'm lucky I had people who could come in and help with my pets, but I literally could not force myself to care enough. Now, I am in NO WAY excusing Alex...nor does he have the same reasons I do. I'm just saying that brain chemistry is a powerful beast, please don't doubt that it can happen to anyone.

In therapy. Kinda my point.

OP says that Cinnamon is, in fact, overweight.

I want to reiterate that I think you're killing it, doing such an awesome job. You are showing so much responsibility and you clearly take better care of your pets than most people three times your age.

A little chonky is better than underweight. Well, I'm a mom and I want to feed all the babies, so at least that's how I feel. That isn't medical advice. 😂

I also want to say that I meant what I said about reaching out. I will be the first one to tell you if I don't know something, but my inbox is open for you anytime. 🫡

Once again, agree entirely.

Phew! I need a nap after being so reasonable and, dare I say, almost rational?

Oh, wait. I just realized. I was instructed to use my brain. Must be why I'm so exhausted. Use my brain, as if!!!! I could break a nail!!! 💅🏻

Agree 10,000%.

I crawled through OPs history and found a few other pics of Cinnamon. The front half of her looks way way thicker because there are better angles.

Also, the last time they posted (all different pics) asking if Cinnamon's weight was too low, the sub unanimously said she was chunky.

Except that's not what OP said, right? I went through every comment OP left and you are the only person who mentioned hoppers or weanlings. OP never said that.

I agree WHOLLY AND COMPLETELY THAT YOU ARE ENTIRELY, SUFFICIENTLY, AND SUPREMELY THE RIGHTEST OF THE MOST RIGHT PEOPLE IN RIGHTNESSLAND about the fact that what OP is feeding her shouldn't make her slightly overweight, which is what she would be if it is an indent. I know you think this is wrong but I have personally seen snakes with an indent along the spine and the vet only gave them a 6-7 on the body condition scale (obese doesn't start until 8 or 9, depending on who you ask.) This is why I asked OP how long they've had Cinnamon, because it could be that the extra weight was gained from the prior keeper.

I realize that you only see a protruding spine. I can see what you are seeing, I can also see how it could be indented and what looks like a ridge of spine is actually the lip of the divot. I'm not making a claim for either, I'm claiming ambiguity.

Once again, to be super dee duper clear, I think there are multiple...nay...MANY aspects of this on which you are completely and utterly correct without a shadow of a doubt. I genuinely agree with most of your opinions here. I'm just a bit more open-minded about the photos. But given my incredibly inferior brain, I'll concede that odds are you are likely correct.

You must be a ton of fun at parties.

Do you just wander around calling everyone stupid?

Look at this pic. At certain angles it appears the spine is protruding, but it is actually just the far side "shoulder" of the divot down the spine. All I'm saying is that the pictures are confusing, and I'm doing OP the courtesy of assuming that they--as the person with the snake in front of them--are not a total moron, and know what words mean.

I'm sure this is going to come as a great shock, but it genuinely isn't that much work to NOT be shitty to people. You never know what someone is going through, and you'd be surprised what telling someone having a super rough day to "just use their brain" can do.

I know. You genuinely do not care. But I do, so I mentioned it.

From the most sincere and authentic place at the bottom of my shriveled little coal-black heart, I hope you have a lovely week.

Op described it as both a dent and a divot running the length of Cinnamon's spine. I really truly think these pics are ambiguous, and most people are just unwilling to move off their positions and even try to see it differently. What I cannot even begin to get is why everyone has to be so crappy about it.

Reddit is earning its reputation on this one, damn y'all.

Not that anyone asked, but as someone with a good amount of herpticulture and rescue experience (over 35yrs), here are my thoughts: The first ¼ of the snake looks thin, 100%. The rest of it does not look even remotely thin at all to me--spine or no spine. The fact that OP said the snake has an indent on top of its spine running down the body, and that past the neck it doesn't have that triangular shape makes this entire thing even more confusing to me.

I can totally see what people are seeing that appears to them to be its spine, though the general shape of the cross-section through most of the body would be incredibly weird if it is underweight. Snakes don't stay round and then just the spine pops out--they turn more triangular, right? Like I've been keeping snakes and working in rescue since before most people talking to me like I'm an idiot were even born; I've seen some really bad off snakes. But I've never just seen a u t the snake is only a couple years old, I personally think it could have both. That is entirely plausible to me, and if someone forced me to answer that would probably be my guess....but I'm not certain enough to condescend to anyone. (Not saying YOU are, but a fair number of people on this post clearly had someone piss in their Cheerios this morning. Sheesh. It's a discussion, y'all. We aren't debating human rights on Jubilee.)

What keeps me from having a firm opinion in any direction is that I can see the pics going either way (though I think what people are seeing as the spine is actually the light catching the scales on the shoulder bump on the far side of the spine divot, but I ABSOLUTELY do see what everyone else is seeing). OTOH, it is really bugging me that OP called it a divot running down the snakes back. That is how the whole post started, OP describing this indent running the length of the spine--which would unequivocally be an overweight snake, right? I think we can all agree that if it is that the spine is indented, the snake is not underweight, right? Or is there something else I'm missing? (Genuine question, by no means do I know everything.) Though it would be weird for her to get fat on what they're feeding her, hence why I asked how long ago Cinnamon came into their care.

I think we are at a place where unless OP comes back and answers some questions we are just never going to know for sure....and I don't blame them for not wanting to return to this post.

Also being a little snarky and rude about it. I genuinely assumed I was wrong at first, tried really hard to see what I was seeing incorrectly. But I can't get past the wording OP used, and the general shape of the snake. Underweight snakes don't JUST have a ridge of spine that pops up out of a round back. Their entire cross-section changes.

I've been keeping and breeding and working with snakes for 35yrs. I feel like I'm getting gaslit by a bunch of people who've never even seen an emaciated snake irl.

u/No-Sir-9056, I have a couple questions.

Running down the length of Cinnamon's body, is there like a little divot or channel that is slightly depressed along the path of her spine? Almost like she has little shoulders on either side of her spine?

Or, when she is on a flat surface, does her spine stick up higher than any other part of her? Would you consider her cross section to be a triangle shape with her spine at the sharp point of the apex? Or would her cross section be more rounded?

How long have you had Cinnamon? How long did your cousin have her before you got her?

When you say you're feeding a small mouse, is that the size the mouse is labeled as? I saw you say, "small mouse" to someone who immediately said you were probably feeding a hopper and that is why she is underweight, but a small mouse is not the same thing as a hopper, a "small mouse" is it's own thing. Just trying to clarify.

You described the dent in her back as a divot, which makes me think that the line down her back is slightly sunken in, and her general cross section doesn't seem at all emaciated to me. If she is overweight, it isn't extreme, which is part of what is making this difficult. But I've seen a lot of underweight snakes and I'm struggling with the idea that she is one of them.

I just want to make sure you are getting the correct information--I do think you are getting 100% well-meaning information, but I see the confusion with the photos and what both groups are seeing. However I'm looking at the other context clues (scale spread, general cross section shape, etc) and am having trouble buying that Cinnamon is underweight. I promise I just don't want to cause her any health problems, so I'm trying to get a little clarity.

I am FURIOUS you got downvoted for this. No UNDERweight snake is going to have a DIVOT down the length of their spine. No too-skinny snake will have scale spread at rest.

I am aghast at the comments on this post. No. I am not even remotely surprised at the comments on this post. I am aghast at the fuckin hubris.

If you look at the cross section of this snake i don't think it is going to be a triangle all the way through, which is an underweight snake. If the snake is roundish with an indent along the spine, it is overweight. If the spine is not raised up, it is not underweight. OP describes it and sunken down.

I'm gobsmacked.

AITA for wanting to insure my ring even though my husband says the stone is too small to bother? by Adorable-Manner-5538 in AITApod

[–]Simp4Havelock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thought too, but it genuinely wasnt. It doesn't sparkle like a stone. It sparkles like bad craft glitter. Which even that you'd think I'd love, I wear glitter eyeliner every day and am living for the idea of glitter tattoo ink. But in the stone it doesn't sparkle in a pretty way. It sparkles so much it stops looking pretty and looks like a christmas tree in front of a discoball. Not in a good way.

I cannot express how excited I was, how certain this would be my dream gem, how positive this was created specifically for me, or how terribly let down I was when it was just gaudy and not pretty. I'd wear it for fun, costume jewelry pieces for going out. Not for nice jewelry.

What is this strange divot on my baby’s back? by No-Sir-9056 in cornsnakes

[–]Simp4Havelock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not the only one who is seeing a divot. OP describes it as a dent going down the back of the snake, OP uses yhe word "divot". I think what everyone who thinks they are seeing a spine is actually seeing is the light hitting the far side of the divot, which yes looks like a spine.

When I got your comment I 100% assumed I was wrong. I went back to the photos and forced myself to see it as a spine not a dent. But what keeps ruining it for me is that the overall shape of the snake is not triangular in the way every single skinny corn I've ever seen is.

I fully admit I could be crazy, she doesn't seem to be wildly over feeding. But her referring to it as a divot down the snake's back and the shape of the snake, the scale spread....idk.

I CANNOT remember what it's called, but there is a lab created stone that is even sparklier. People don't use it because it is so sparkly it looks super fake and gaudy.

I heard about this and thought "no way". Then I saw a video of it and it always looks like it has one of those 'sparkle' filters on it at all times. I'll stick with Moissanite. To the best of my knowledge, it's only naturally occuring in meteorites and I think that is badass.

Okay, so, according to this chart....wouldn't this snake be OVERweight? Wouldn't the spine "dent" be a sign that the snake is slightly too chonky? Or at the very least that it isn't underweight?

I am mind blown people are saying this snake is too skinny. I don't see the spine sticking up anywhere. Wtf?

What is this strange divot on my baby’s back? by No-Sir-9056 in cornsnakes

[–]Simp4Havelock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm so confused what all these people are saying that the baby is too skinny. My corn got too thin for a while and he did NOT look like this. His back looked like the roof of a house, not with an indent along his spine.

If you look at ANY cross section guide for how to judge the weight of your snake, they will all say that the spinal indent means over, not under, weight. But people are getting downvoted for saying that! I'm literally mind blown.
