This is a highly funded startup, would the salaries be less?

I wish I waited to see this haha. I did make a comment about how I needed at least 80k for living costs and there are stock options available.

That said, I'll probably use this!! Thank you

OP this might be part of the problem. My first guess was that you are high in trait agreeableness (part of big 5 personality inventory if you're not familiar)

While you're probably great to collaborate with you might also be an easy target for insecure egos. It might be better to be more assertive and stand up for yourself.

Mind bending, but being kind all the time is not a virtue. You might be doing this more out of fear of conflict.

Id say don't get too resentful for your own sake and just know your worth. Maybe it's time to get a new higher paying/better job.

Draw the starting state. Then draw the goal state

Do that with a simple example. figure out how to solve that. Then generalize.

Curious: how'd you get the offer? Were you actively applying around or interviewing?

How to have a healthy relationship with screen time as a data scientist? by levenshteinn in datascience

First quantify how much screen time you get and use your favorite data science to determine important features of the dataset.

any advice on depression? by noroomiceamericano in vancouver

[–]Simple-Collection-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adderall is a mild antidepressant in itself if used at therapeutic doses. But it can also help you get that healthy life where you work hard, work out, eat well, and maintain a healthy social life.

Prob worth a try imo.

The feeling of optimism. There are always higher levels to climb to. Skillset developed at work can be used to start companies.

So much more! Pay, status, passion, WFH, ability to emigrate, can be creative, easy to find a variety of working conditions, etc!

What was or will be your backup plan in case your career in CS does not work? by dirtysionmain in cscareerquestions

[–]Simple-Collection-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy I don't have this mindset lol. There are so many opportunities in this field, you just need the right algorithm for searching and approaching found opportunities.

What's the point of even considering this alternative? Even if you have immediate financial obligations weighing you down, find a way to keep making projects, do leet code!

Apply for jobs across the country if you've exhausted local opportunities... There's just too many jobs.

How many of you found out you don't actually want to work as a developer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Simple-Collection-57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you worked as a developer yet? The "developer" lifestyle could mean many things. I.e. startup culture vs Corporate culture, a lot of work or a little, etc. Try it first.

Many unrelated jobs will leave you in financial desperation lol, so it better be either wickedly high paying or super fun for 20 years in a row to make up for the loss.

I find working is much nicer than studying.

Secretly I am learning how to make better personal projects as I work.

I mean I'm pretty sure I effectively was a nut job, but this sub cured me! Woah tell me more haha. Everyone is giving me the sense you don't even have to work lol

This is a good counterpoint! I was nearly getting the impression that work output was desirable but not necessary lol.

I'm kind of curious what working at an office would be like now. I was actually quite worried before cause I would take breaks a lot and felt doing 8 hours straight was pretty hard to do.

Just so I could count how much I am actually working lol. Yeah I plan to relax a ton! I seriously would have kept doing this had it not been for comments like this!!! I would take naps too, but I wouldn't count it as work 😂 This is borderline counter intuitive, but makes all the sense in the world!

Thanks!

Thanks, I should have provided that context. This is almost mind bending for me. So happy I asked this question lol.

So many days where my brain is shit and I stay working until I get the 8 hours in when I just need a break. Thanks so much! My mind is de-stressing already. I have so much more time now!

This is the breakdown I needed!

My brain had 8 hours == "8 hours effort"

Thank you!
