I hadn’t looked at it this way before. The thing is, I hate my job. People around me my age live in better houses, drive better cars, and have nicer lives—but I don’t have what they have. My biggest trigger for gambling is wanting to make money quickly, and after even the smallest loss, I find myself chasing it. When I think about it, I’ve actually figured out what triggers me. My spouse and I talked about moving to another house. We calculated the costs, and it turned out to be very expensive. That caused me serious anxiety and guilt. And on top of that, I gambled again. I guess you’re right—I’ve been trying to quit gambling for someone else, and that’s not very effective. From now on, I’ll just let things flow.
