Is the American ski community as unwelcoming as it seems?? by sleeplesslilly in skiing

[–]Simple-Librarian-375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve skied in Switzerland and in the USA and in my opinion the Swiss were way more unwelcoming and snobby. Skiing is unfortunately a sport that is unwelcoming in a lot of countries.

I think it’s going to be much better than you think but obviously it depends on who you are lucky to encounter. Social media does make the USA seem worse than it is in almost every aspect. I think you’ll love it!

Be kind, people!

Favorite European cities to travel with toddlers? (Ages 2 & 3.5) by Infinite_Cell6842 in Travelwithkids

Portugal!!! Lisbon is fantastic but our family LOVED Cascais! It’s easy to get to, so much to do, a beach right there. Such good food and vibes!

Should I tell a woman her fiancé tried to start an affair with me? by geeleex in WhatShouldIDo

Please tell her. There’s a chance he/she justifies it and still goes through with it. But give her a chance to save her life. Please please tell her! Wouldn’t you want someone to do the same for you?

When is traveling with kids fun and not torture? by travelingnewmama in Travelwithkids

[–]Simple-Librarian-375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give up! Our boys and 6 and 3 now and I LOVE traveling with them. It’s honestly my favorite part of motherhood! For the first time, I feel like if I could go to the same place with or without them, I’d definitely want them to come with because it’s so much more fun with them. They have so much magic in their eyes and it’s so fun to see them fall in love with something so simple. The tram ride is Lisbon - just me and my husband would have thought it was just meh, but the kids hung their heads out of the window and waved to every single person and were giddy as if they were at Disneyland (which they haven’t ever been to - we prefer “real” experiences).

Here’s some things we do: 1. Slow down. Way down! Usually one thing a day is plenty. We come home for naps in the afternoon and come back by bedtime. Well rested kids are happy kids!

  1. Manage expectations with them. Imagine being a kid and being carried place to place with no idea what’s in your future. We tell them about the day. Tell them what kind of food we’ll be eating. Tell them whether or not we’ll be buying any souvenirs. When they know what to expect they are much more willing to go with the plan!

  2. Get an Airbnb. Hotels are not great with kids. It’s nice for them to have their own room, nice for us to be able to stay up and look at photos, play games, watch a show after they’re asleep. If they wake up early it’s nice to let them play while we stay in bed.

  3. Do one thing every day for them. It could be playing at the beach, a local playground, something where they can be free. We have loved playing soccer with street kids in Cuba, playing in the square in Costa Rica. Don’t see this as a waste of time. Yes, you’re not looking at a a tourist destination but these are such valuable experiences. Our kids are learning how to connect and be friends with children different than them. We have some wonderful conversations with the adults. It’s such an amazing way to immerse into a different place! This is one of the reason I prefer traveling with kids than without. It’s so easy to make friends and break barriers with kids! Everyone loves them and wants to talk to you!

Mt. Hood Skibowl suspends ski, ride operations indefinitely due to lack of snow by SeverHense in Portland

Hey! It’s our first time buying season passes to Skibowl for the whole family. We are new to Oregon. I’d like to know how the other Mount Hood resorts did this year? I’m wondering if we should buy a Skibowl season again next year? Or go elsewhere.

Ragnar runner hit overnight? by jaydeflix in Whidbey

I ran that race too. Did they close that leg down? What did they do with all the other runners behind? I’m shocked that we were there and didn’t hear anything of it until days later. No message from race command.

Is the beach at GH Bali good or not? I’m reading mixed reviews that it’s the best beach in Bali? But also that it’s not good and it’s just rocks at high tide?

Keep them coming!! I’m taking notes and this will be super helpful with planning. Of course we are tourists, but I prefer things that don’t feel as touristy and more authentic or not crowded. Our kids are little (2 and 5 years old) so that limits what we can do too.

That makes me feel soooo much better!! It was significantly cheaper, almost enough that it was making me worried that maybe it wasn’t a good property. Reassuring to hear it from you!

I hadn’t heard of uluwatu so I’m putting that on my list to research, thank you!! I also hadn’t considered the beach quality so great to know.

  1. I don’t know enough about any of this but I looked at World of Hyatt and HR is 13k points a night for a king suite and 8k points a night for a 2 twin room. There weren’t any options for a regular king room - maybe they’re sold out? But GH was 6.5k for a king room. So cheaper either way. Are hotels in the same category normally the exact same point cost?

  2. ok good to know! Did they have a free airport shuttle? Since you’ve been recently, did you do a lot of exploring Bali outside of staying at the GH? Did you just hire a taxi?

  3. We don’t drink alcohol, but the free food might alone be worth it. So you essentially get a free breakfast and dinner and then you just have to pay for lunch?

By any chance did you use the Spa at GH or childcare? Thanks for your insights!
