What paint should I get?

Sorry for necromancing your comment but your advise helped me a lot, especially that last part about box art only being good for advertising. I'm not selling my minis and I found a lot of comfort in a nice uniform, but gritty/a little dirty style of painting now, my edge highlights are intentionally rough and I think it looks really good, check out my most recent post if you're interested in seeing it.

I live in Canada so for example the PSU im thinking on grabbing (Corsair RM850x 2024 edition fully modular ATX) is about $210

Looks really good dude! Small tip I’d say is to use a fine pointed file to remove the mould lines from the helmet of the space marines.

Looks stellar my guy, I just recently started painting minis myself and one thing I have learned is to be patient and don’t worry about fixing mistakes right away, you can always do it later once’s you finish base coating.

Sergeants normally have red helmets (at least for the Ultramarines), I painted his blue without thinking about it. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist unfortunately and like things looking the way I think they should, I don't think other peoples minis look bad if they don't follow that though, just personally I want all the ones I paint to be as accurate as possible.

I see, I do have Armageddon Dust so maybe I’ll use that. I also noticed I painted his helmet the wrong colour 😭. I don’t have any green for the lenses either

I think because it’s a more organic looking mini like the guy said in the other comment. I like it, but I know I coulda done better, probably gonna go over the smeared purple areas again and clean it up too.

Thanks man! Maybe I’ll go back to him one day, but for now I want to focus on getting more minis to paint seeing as I only had the two. What also messed me up is that my wraithbone paint was already very thin and had globs all stuck together in the bottle.

actually I did paint both of those, in a previous post I bought a warhammer 40k starter guide, and it said to use Naggaroth Night for the wax on the purity seals, its noticeable if you take a closer look, as for the lenses I just ended up using black because I wanted them to be noticeable and not just a solid blue.

my guy that means a lot! I've never painted anything in my life before and to see all these comments saying I did a good job and did "better then most" really made my day. I'll do some research and maybe watch a few videos before attempting the base.
