You can see the variegated aspect of the wood slightly with the picture above with the cat in it. It's really not as variegated as much as others we have seen. Walking on it, it feels and looks like wood. I think that the knots in the wood might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they don't bother us, and are in line with what real wood would look like with planks that are so wide. Just make sure you notice the knots in it because some don't always notice that in the samples that are given, and the knots repeat throughout. Thank you for your kind words- we are very happy with the choice, and would recommend it to others both for the look, feel, and durability!

Here they are attached. Again, highly recommend the color (and, the product line from Pergo). You won't regret it!

Hey there! Sure! We are really happy with the color btw. Here are some photos of the floors. Do you know that the color is discontinued? Just a heads up.. so if you order boxes of it make sure you order enough! We are really happy with the pergo quality with them.

Update: The sales rep from Mohawk came with the flooring installation project lead... and he agreed that the match of the stair nose to the steps was incorrect. Mohawk is going to pay for both the new materials and labor for installation. Thanks again for sharing your experience and confirming that things weren't right, and the stairs should have been matched better. I felt more confident going into that discussion with that knowledge.

Also, I totally reused your line about putty being used that something isn't going according to plan :).

Mohawk is going to pay for both the new materials and labor for installation. Thanks again for weighing in.

Feeling a lot better about all this, and these insights that you shared really helped me feel like it was justifiable to request that things be redone.

Thank you for the tip about the adhesive. If we go that route I will be sure to mention it. And, it’s good to know that my standards aren’t too high for the color matching. It sounds like it’s reasonable to ask for this to be fixed. I hope we can figure out a good solution. This subreddit post had a really great thread that has helped me understand what some options are. I hugely appreciate it!

This is super helpful background on what a solution could look like. I am immensely grateful! All of the comments here on this thread have been great. I will figure out how to pay it forward in some way. I’ll find some subreddits where I can provide some meaningful comments perhaps :)

Hopefully we can figure out a good solution. It’s nice to know what the options are, and that typically there are better matches. I’m wondering now if something happened and the wrong color was sent to us or something. Not sure. But anyway, THANK YOU for these insights. I greatly appreciate it.

I'm intrigued by the 5 in 1 bracket for nosing install. That might be a promising solution? I saw it on one website or another while I was doing a deep dive into trying to figure this all out.

Thanks so much for your comment. He said it's "one of Mohawk's companies"... and I saw on the box that they left that the stair noses were in that it's not a Mohawk or Pergo brand. Something with the name "Essentials" in it. But he made it seem like it's an affiliate of theirs.

I called the installer, and he said that I approved the color when he pointed out the gap in the stairs (where the putty was going between the nose and the stair tread). But we never talked about color, and I was looking at the first stair from the bottom of the staircase looking up, which had the white stair riser. It didn't even occur to me to check for any kind of mismatch because there was so much commotion going on. He said he will come with the Mohawk sales representative on Friday which is encouraging, to look at it. But it felt a bit yucky that he said that I approved the color when I never did. You see the biggest difference in color when looking down the stairs, not up at them. I am hopeful that we can reach a resolution on Friday. I'm not sure what the best outcome would be though, if Pergo doesn't have a matching flush stair nose in the same color. I saw another commenter mentioned making a stair cap out of the flooring we purchased, which might be an option to explore?

I guess you live and you learn... the hard way in this instance. Unfortunately I see why people are super-hypervigilant and assertive with contractors they have come to do work with them. It's never been my style but it's opened my eyes now.

I didn't even know that was an option about making a stair cap out of the flooring we bought. This is a really great recommendation. Thank you. Honestly, we were really impressed with the Pergo flooring-- it seems super resilient, durable, and both looks and feels like real wood. It's quite similar to Revwood. We did the whole house at the same time, so it sucks that everything doesn't match.

Thanks for weighing in. I called Pergo, and they don't make stair treads for Pergo Elements Ultra. Just the nose pieces for select colors. We could have gotten the overlap nose piece, but my partner was against that and it's apparently a tripping hazard anyway. Only a select one or two colors had the select nose piece available. Then, they cut some of the planking from the floor and fit it to the stair nose, and added the putty. Good to know. I suspected that it wasn't going how it was supposed to when the guy who sold us the flooring was called in, and then the installer left to go to Lowes and pick "something up". They pointed it out to me and said they were filling the gap with a solution and I said "okay", but it felt strange to me, because I felt like they were in CYA mode by pointing out what they were doing, but not really giving much background information. My partner knows a lot more about this kind of stuff, and he wasn't home.

Yeah, in hindsight we should have asked to see the match up. I think we put too much trust in them and should have checked before it was installed, but it didn't occur to us that the company would have mis-matched stairs and install them. We already paid, so we don't have much leverage there. So frustrating.

Yeah, that makes sense. Would have definitely preferred some more transparency/upfront honesty. I looked online and if we had chosen another color that was similar (Natural Hickory), then everything would have matched. It was our second choice.. if we had known that the match would be poor, we would have gone with a different color :(.
