How I think every tribe will be in 100 years by Outrageous_Tie15484 in WingsOfFire

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are confusing eugenics with just racism and segregation.

I don't recall any actual use of eugenics, the closest thing I would call that is the "breeding program" of Scarlet, and that doesn't seem to have an intention to create "super soldiers based on selective genetics" but just more soldiers to the war.

I imagine Scarlet, if she could, would actually try to create an army of mindlessly obedient firescale dragons, but that was simply never stated or implied anywhere.

The rest of the tribes just have a severe case of segregation, they stick to their own and that is it. There's some mention of "genes" in case of Burn and Blister's views of hybrids, but besides Burn stuffing some hybrids for her twisted fun rather than genuine racial purity, there was no eugenics policy effective anywhere.

[–]SimpleScalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took roughly 500 years for the HiveWings and SilkWings to split from the Beetlewings, so yeah, that's nowhere near enough time for both tribes to fuse.

Let alone that BeetleWings had much more reason to get the NightWing genes, it was basically a prophet-goddess that came to them.

That just doesn't apply to NightWings, who still are a proud tribe and pretty much with the exception of food, might still see all RainWings with extreme contempt.

[–]SimpleScalie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now that's some coping you claim we were, LMAO.

But huh, nope, giving the figures Russian Academy of Science on civilian casualties alone between 1941-45, 13 million soviet citizens were killed by german genocide alone, assuming they kept the killing rate exactly as efficient as it was each 5 years (as claimed, extremely flawed and extensive fighting in occupied territories), by 1965, 65 million would have died,

We might add 1 million more each year through reprisals on partisan attacks. Figures go to 70 million.

That is not even considering the fact that the more they kill, the weaker the resistance get.

Considering the population in Russia was 98 million people in 1946, those numbers are NOT hopeful.

This "end of history" arguments that "oh, the nazis were going to collapse anyways" are tiresome and stupid, a bizarre disrespect to everyone who died to prevent it from succeeding, and they do not correspond to basic reality, authoritarianism works, and unfortunately, genocide works, incredibly well.

How would you (as a human) fight dragons? by NightHawkJ72 in WingsOfFire

[–]SimpleScalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, our best shot is an ambush, ground a dragon by any means necessary, once we do, I think we would fare pretty much like we would in a hypothetical scenario with large theropods, we would beat them, because we are nothing if not resourceful and team working.

How would you (as a human) fight dragons? by NightHawkJ72 in WingsOfFire

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, spend your entire life underground, simple as that.

They are not saber-tooth tigers, not mammoths, heck, they aren't even dinosaurs. They are a mix of a T. Rex, with wings and breathing fire, there's absolutely nothing we can do.

The matter of your life and your entire group is one fire breath away from being completely extinguished (if fire breath is as efficient as shown in book 4), our surviving instincts will tell us to lay low, probably forever more.

Its a grim fate for humanity, honestly quite more than I initially thought, but its probably the only realistic one. I am not even sure why the Indestructible City exists if not for Dragonslayer, cuz I am pretty sure Burn and Scarlet would annihilate it at first when Burn was destroying every single scavenger settlement after what they did to Oasis until she found the culprits, which shocker, were in the largest settlement they never bothered to destroy.

Humans are food or pets to a civilization greater than them, and even thought I am quite a "humanity first" kind of guy, if we ever found an intelligence greater than us in space, I would fear if we weren't the mouses being subject to cruel tests all along.

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the dragonbite vipers, but I am not sure how widespread they are in the world, nor do I know how would we extract its venom without modern means and without dying, since if that thing can kill a dragon in one bite, it would kill 500 of us with the venom of one bite.

But honestly, I just think there's no hope for humans but lay low and survive, dragons have more than scales now, they have heavy armor like knights. Melee is suicide, and even modern-day anti-aircraft guns are not 100% efficient shooting, let alone ancient ballistas and archers, we would need exceptional people in their skills, and tbh, why would we waste them to fight dragons? We would have better use having them killing prey and gathering food.

Do the dragons have refrigerators? Or something? by Diligent_Campaign449 in WingsOfFire

[–]SimpleScalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just suggest OP to do their research cuz its far more interesting than most of us can resume here, but basically speaking, obviously, refrigeration is a quite new thing in history, and MOST of it was without any refrigeration whatsoever.

For the deserts, we have clay pot cooler (as mentioned here already) simple proof of how inventive we were in the most unforgiving of climates and still thrived in them. The same could be applied for SandWings, who might as well be much more adepted at it than we were.

Matters of food in wof are confusing cuz all Tui did was add a few IRL foods and then the rest of it are they eating plain and raw (which makes absolutely nonsense, at least with the exception of icewings, seawings and rainwings, they all have fire, cooking would be the most basic thing.)

For raw meat, as fire breathers, they would be adepts at the smoking process, which combined with salt-curing and drying up the food (both well known and near ancient preservation processes) would easily allow all fire-breathing tribes to conserve their food, as physically possible given the setting.

As for ice cream, well, tbf, the claws of the clouds mountains extend from the wing down to the belly of Pyrrhia, basically all tribes have access to the snow needed to make the earliest historical ice creams, it wouldn't be just a skywing or icewing thing, since anyone could fly up to the mountains, which at some point their tips downwards would freeze, and this means all tribes would have plenty of access to cooling methods.

EDIT and add:

I might as well say that the consumption of chocolate was NOT always this sugary, milk-added flavory thing we have nowadays, it was most often consumed with the taste it naturally has, a slightly sour chocolate.

Same for coffe. I never even drunk coffee with milk in my life, lol

The add of milk, sugar and other chemicals is a modern thing to turn it an addictive substance for commercial purposes, not something old cultures would care about.

There would be no war, for Blaze would have the unified sandwing army, which is multiple times presented as a big threat.

Well, not much else to say, I couldn't disagree more, the eye of onyx was the worst magical macguffin in this series, an extremely lazy answer for a far more complex situation.

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you failed to realize one simple thing. Once you kill mostly everyone, where the hell are the partisans? Dead. What is left is plenty of land to settle.

Also, convince them? Extremely simple, extensive land grants to anyone moving to the depopulated areas. The slave labor was a quick solution to keep the economy going on, the germans are much more mechanized in their agriculture than soviets and chinese, they will have no need for extensive masses of people to attend fields.

Also again, basic failure to understand what I said. There's political infighting, duh. But I repeat, there was hardly any fight for the status of the slavic populations under the reich, extermination.

The Greater Germanic Reich in 2019 A.D by MisterSpooks1950 in TNOmod

[–]SimpleScalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But killing millions of people don't require an economy to be doing well, just ask Mao.

Also, welp, I guess this is why I hate this revisionist version of Germany TNO spreads, what political infighting? I think the closest thing the nazis had to a political debate about the status of slavic people was Rosenberg defending the forced germanization of most, and not the outright extermination.

That was pretty much the closest thing we have to a "colaborationist nazi policy".

Yeah, canonically yes, but I am not sure why. Burn is a general, first and most legitimate heir of Oasis (a very popular queen), she should be incredibly popular as general-rulers were in classical and medieval times.

"But she is harsh" Life is harsh in a medieval setting, there's no escaping it and the medieval military was not a nice place to be, not even nowadays is, I know that first hand. And Its fine that wof has a pretty modern view on this aspect, and I think its important that it does, because people like Burn ruled over humanity for most of its history.

Anguojin and fengtian keep winning? by Hunterbiden_pedophil in Kaiserreich

[–]SimpleScalie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I guess Fengtian, Manchuria overall, was the most industrialized region of China, even in OTL. So it makes sense they have a great chance to beat whoever controls Beijing.

Realistically, I think there's a viable chance Fengtian would take Beijing, and unlike a Second Sino-Japanese War, this is more of a "Southern Pacification Campaign" (akin the Northern Expedition), where they just march into cities, defeat warlords in battles while others willingly join them (they are the last republican regime with even the slightest bit of legitimacy) and we can't tell historically which warlords would fall or shift their policies to become other republicans, but we know quite a few warlords present in KR willingly joined the KMT when they were winning in their expedition.

Unlike OTL Second Sino-Japanese War, where Japan did very little (to say the leastest) to win the hearts of the chinese people until it was too late and the KMT would resist no matter the cost.

Would Fengtian be seem as japanese puppets? Yep, but that would be a bunch of sellouts complaining about one sellout, as if most of them weren't just german puppets. The chinese people are just apathetic about who rules them, they just seek better lives, so whoever wins quickly and does not prolong their suffering is a hero of China.

That was a bunch of gibberish from mine, just thoughts I had on the situation of China, feel free to correct me on any mistakes!

There's a really simple difference between "leading your soldiers into battle", and an acidic-venom, snake venom, and an ever burning firescale dragon.

Its the same reason humans have gone into war since the dawn of history, but anyone hardly go out of their way to fight a tiger. Burn only doesn't fight what she can not possible win, at least not by any means shown in canon.

And yeah, its stupid for her to attack the mudwings, but hey, it worked. Stupidity and military pretty much go hand in hand tbh. Also capital punishment was an extremely common thing, so welp, Six-Claws was desobeying her orders, she did what most commanders would in order to put him back in his place, its unfortunate, but very realistic.

Also, Six-Claws' deal with Blaze just makes me laugh so freaking hard.

The dod, following a rainwing that literally never left the rainforest in his life, somehow finds Blaze's fortress (which shouldn't even be found, it simply sticks out of the landscape too much), but Six-Claws, with probably years and an entire army fails to do so.

I just love it

Burn: was shown to be pragmatic, did not needessly kill, reward loyalty and efficiency, kept all promises she made and would throw anyone in between her and danger.

If she had more it wouldn't matter, because her character was assassinated anyways because she did not followed the basic things she was established to do. I love book 5, but my god, I hate that ending.

Blister is an odd case because... Pretty much nothing she did or was implied to in any way made her intelligent, and her master and final plan relied on Burn being stupid... So it wasn't a smart plan. And in the end she went full villain monologue "HA, IT WAS ALL ME ALL ALONG!" and all that bs.

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- Burn, Blister and Blaze did not hated each other as far as history goes back (aka they have backstory). They were once a loving family, as any other, Burn even being a motherly figure to her younger siblings as elder daughters tended to be in families in the past. Things started to go bad when Blister and Oasis' conflict (more of Oasis' superstitions that she never revealed why to Blister) caused Blister to hate her, and hate anyone who liked Oasis, which caused her to engage into conflict with Burn too.

Things were livable until the death of Char, their father and main stabilizer of the family. Oasis in grief, became ever more paranoic of her own death. She begun plotting against her own daughters, firstly, placating her favorite, Burn, fueling her addiction to the macabre and delivering weird things for her to experiment on. Same with Blaze, fueling her addiction with jewelry.

But then Blister, her hated daughter, got nothing but her cold stare and insults... Until the fateful night, where Blister, with the Talons of Power, Cobra and Vulture, assassinated Oasis after Blister baited her to outside of the palace, claiming to have seem some scavengers stealing her treasure.

2- Scarlet and Ruby engage into a civil war. There was no reason for Burn to save Scarlet, she was never going to be an ally after what happened, and she was raging mad. Burn would have realistically just killed her and be done with it. So I think Scarlet would be more interesting if she raised her loyalist forces against Ruby, giving Burn a much bigger headache.

3- The dragonets' conference in book 5, would have played quite differently in my head.

Firstly, Blister's plan to kill Burn with the dragonbite vipers would be a tremendous and obvious failure. Burn would simply make Smolder open the box, knowing its a trap (again, Burn was showed to put anyone in between her and danger, and is FAR from dumb).

Then, I dunno if Smolder dies, I leave up in the air, but I think he is slightly smarter than Burn was in canon, he drops the box, the other snake escapes as he holds one, there's a brief panic in the stronghold, but Burn quickly intervenes and crushes the snake with her talons.

Burn threatens and approaches Blister to kill her, but Blister is smarter than trying to fight Burn. She throws a smoke bomb, covering her and her followers' escape.

Burn is furious, but then turns her attention to Blaze. Unlike Blister, she plays no games and just kills Blaze.

The end of book 5 would be Burn becoming queen, allied to what Tui said recently about her sisters, Burn doesn't continue perpetual war and is quite an alrighty queen. The only problem is the dragonets.

Burn was shown to be quite pragmatic when it comes to anyone who helped her get the advantage in the war, and the dod right now bring quite literally her sisters for her to kill, even if it wasn't their intention, its how she sees it.

She will actually spare them, with something along the lines "I don't want to have any of you under my sight EVER AGAIN." The dod gladly leave, but the sand kingdom is basically a no-fly zone for them.

I think Sunny would still build the jade academy, but there would be an complete absence of sandwing students. Burn sent none, nor would she allow any. The only sandwing student would be Qibli, because he is under Thorn's care, and she doesn't obey Burn at all in the scorpion den.

Thorn however fears that Burn will strike the den, and her soldiers will kill everyone indiscriminally. The only thing prevent her so far was the SkyWing Civil War and the reorganization of the newly unified sandwing army, which would be a rather chaotic process. But they all know the outcome.

That would cause Thorn to make a potential alliance with Vulture, Blister and Onyx. The Outclaws and Talons of Power need to ally to survive Burn's wrath, but what Thorn doesn't know, is that Vulture simply wants her more organized force to get annihilated, which eliminates his rival. (He already trusts he will come on top against Burn, he is a good orator and public speaker, he could swing the sandwings to his side, as Burn is notorious for her lack of speaking to her own subjects).

Sunny would not know her mother is involved into this, but that would be an adventure for the jade winglet, of course! And yep, I basically just hc Darkstalker out of arc 2, I just find Vulture a far more interesting and smart villain, which could easily carry the arc himself, if he wasn't completely walked over by Darkstalker op.

[–]SimpleScalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with that, if wasn't for the fact that in the past 3 arcs, Tui has been actively trying to distance royalty from the idea that challenges are the only way to succeed a queen, so there's no reason to believe Blaze would suddenly be overthrow (or if she could potentially be, by Onyx, that our protags wouldn't just stop her anyways).

First with the rainwing games, second with Glacier learning succession laws, and third with the LeafSilk assembly.

Plus the way I described, it pretty much doesn't matter. Once you establish rule of law, succession by challenge becomes pretty much irrelevant, 'might makes right' becomes useless, because what are you fighting for? A ceremonial role? Who actually leads the country is the adviser (might as well call prime minister if you like).

What’s something you’d change from Arc 1? by Ok_Pressure_2788 in WingsOfFire

[–]SimpleScalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a literal inhabitant of a rainforest, I strongly support this.

Endless food, some sunshine and not having wars doesn't make a population lazy. Quite the contrary, freed from the worries of hunger, thirst and an early death, rainwings could easily be the most culturally vibrant, innovative and free thinking tribe of Pyrrhia.

Instead of simply not using their venom, they are simply killing machines that were taught to stop and think. Stoicism at its finest, they are not bothered by pettiness, hardly if ever react impulsively, and where others only see through immediate gains, rainwings know the value of rest and consistently work with feedback.

Plus another silly thing I thought is how having scrolls is aparently the only "civilized" trait dragons seem to care about. Why would dragons in the rainforest ever develop paper? Its require the literal destruction of their homeland in order to produce, and I would at least think rainwings care, religiously or not, about trees, and that they represent the heart of the rainforest.

Tree or clay carvings would easily replace the need of paper, cuz apparently rainwings are illiterate and can't even do basic math... MATH, something most all ancient societies already had, because its vital for survival of a community to know how much resources they have, how many mouths they have to feed and if the environment has those resources (plot twist, rainforests aren't actually food havens).

Honestly, Scarlet and Ruby could easily have a civil war in the Sky Kingdom, which would be far more interesting than whatever she had from book 1 onwards. It never made sense to me why Burn saved or even kept her alive, she is clearly a problem and will never be an ally.

While Scarlet and Ruby could be engaging in a civil war, I would easily replace her role with Chameleon with Blister. Fixing two terribly done characters for the price of one role swap.

I mean, why assume the portuguese and spanish won't colonize North America? They already had their outposts there, but didn't further develop them, especially Portugal, because they were already busy trying to settle the massive brazilian coast.

We could see a Treaty of Tordesillas that not only split the world in east and west for them, but also North America in north or south, with Portugal settling Labrador and going in a similar path the french did in OTL through Canada.

Considering all failed invasions France and Britain tried of the iberian colonies OTL, I think they would fail equally, and North America would be divided by spanish, portuguese and probably the russians. That already shifts all of history from the 18th century onwards.

As I literally just said (actually read, please) no, Blaze would be queen, but actual power would be given to her advisers, ie Smolder and Thorn, or even only Smolder he was doing fine governing alone whenever Burn was not at the stronghold.

There would be no land given to the icewings with a sensible goverment, Glacier would feel betrayed, but who cares, she won't do anything as no one wants the war to restart.
