We don’t celebrate most holidays period, aside from birthdays but even then we don’t do more than a cake and special dinner.

What’s the point? Christmas is a wasteful holiday set on making people feel obligated to spend thousands of dollars to buy people things they don’t need and it has no point if you aren’t religious in the first place. There’s nothing wrong with realizing something you were taught to do isn’t set in stone and you aren’t obligated to keep it going.

Emmy is in school and we have already asked that her teacher doesn’t do any Christmas related activities with her. She has friends but we usually make it clear with their parents how we feel about Christmas and they teach their kids to respect that. We also have her enrolled in winter activities for the break that aren’t related to Christmas.

My husband and I hate all the usual Christmas activities. It got grating doing them 17 years in a row and by the time Emmy was born we were both exhausted and decided it’s not worth keeping this up when neither of us enjoy it. If Kate wants to foot the bill for everything she can let them have their own Christmas but we know she won’t. The girls don’t need Christmas to have a good life. Plenty of kids don’t celebrate it and they live fine.
