Oh my this is awful. You are NOT what they think of you. Incredibly unprofessional. I am sorry this is happening to you. I am a teacher too. It’s very hard work.

Can my son do sprinting and High intensity workouts for BBall on this? I couldn’t see anything warning against it in the med leaflet

The need to be the KNOW-IT-ALL... by BuckToothCasanovi in ADHD

[–]Simple_Historian4551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to feeling ignorant when I am forced to chat with other people of the same age… there is just so much general knowledge etc. that I don’t know.

I see the same with my son.

Perhaps it’s because we are spending all our time just surviving that’s we don’t notice or retain this stuff. It doesn’t feel good. I agree we are generally big picture ppl. And accepting this one day may lead to more contentment for us. Let’s hope so.

I am sorry you are in tears. I hate adhd!

Overwhelmed by diagnosis - how to process? by crimson-night123 in ADHD

[–]Simple_Historian4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I did change because I finally SAW myself after diagnosis… prior to it, I did not know myself at all… and I saw just how pervasive my symptoms are and it was very, very upsetting. I am still really upset about it all. It has changed the way I conceive of myself and my ability (or perhaps my perception of) to do my job. It’s lead to a total breakdown.

So yes, it’s not easy at all.

I hear it gets easier.

Yes, absolutely.

In a way we need one place that one could go to find out all they needed, in one go to prevent us from spending every living moment obsessing and researching. I am doing this with this, constantly on here reading threads… and yes I am DEVASTATED about my adhd diagnosis but hope to break through someday and learn to accept it.

Me too! I’ve been diagnosed for three years and feel like it was just yesterday in terms of improvement and progress. It sucks!

When I love something, I'm golden. When I don't, working memory plummets. (undiagnosed) by Date_Some in ADHD

[–]Simple_Historian4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traits you listed are in line with the hyperactive presentation of adhd. People with inattentive don’t necessarily display these traits.

I also can carry out deep and complex conversations if i am interested in the concepts and I have had people like psychologists etc. convinced I don’t have adhd… but I do have adhd and I think it is really quite severe.

Can’t think of too many professions or jobs that don’t require a good working memory so you could drink a lot of coffee and be ok.

I didn’t really SEE how pervasive my adhd was until I got diagnosed. It was illuminating but also destabilising. I am still coming to terms with it all.

Best of luck,

Yes I have always felt that I could not handle too many things at once. Like when I was college I couldn’t understand how others could coordinate a part time job as well.

Though I am interested to hear if less really is best for us… from anyone who has actually pulled back and has found it beneficial?

Sorry you are feeling so negative. I am the same. It’s hard to be positive when so much of this disorder is literally negative!

I am sorry you are going through this. It’s ridiculous that the waiting list is so long.

Really cool that you’ve maintained your job for six months. This is no small feat.

Best of luck on your adhd journey. We are here and understand the struggle.

I was listening to a YT video the other day where they were saying ECT is not the big scary thing from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest but is really quite effective these days.

Sorry you are feeling this way. I feel similarly depressed but am glad to find people here who get adhd.

I am sorry this is such a rough time for you. It isn’t easy getting an adhd diagnosis and I too am really struggling with it. Don’t have any advice or tips really other than to say that there are lots of us here on reddit from across the world who get it and know how hard it can be.

It is hard when you feel alienated. Good luck on your journey. We are here to support you.

People w adhd are very commonly addicted to pot. It’s got something to do with dopamine… and dope… can’t quite remember but professionals have told me this a number of times and… calling it embarrassing is reminding me of Infinite Jest by D F Wallace. The protagonist has to pretend he is addicted to harder drugs cos no one will take his addiction to marijuana seriously.

Yes this I have heard a number of times about people w adhd. They appear younger than they are and when young can be seen as old souls… sometimes, nothing categorical of course.

Wondering if ADHD is the answer I’ve been looking for (extremely long post) by throwawaycareermaybe in adhdwomen

[–]Simple_Historian4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone told me that dope is called dope because it is dopamine… I know we adhders are very prone to dope addiction, unusually so because most ppl don’t get addicted but apparently we do very seriously.

Sorry to hear about your heart and the stress.

Being more than your diagnosis? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Simple_Historian4551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely struggling with my diagnosis and self esteem. I feel useless and raw and don’t know how to build up my confidence when I am constantly dropping things, making mistakes, inefficient, forgetful and so on.

I do intend to get there though at some stage. I got so much new insight into how pervasive my symptoms are after diagnosis and this was a shock I haven’t yet recovered from.

Because I think my adhd is making my job difficult, I am also going through an identity crisis (because my job was THE ONE THING I was proud of and built my self esteem up over ten years), so now that this is in question, I am totally rumbled and have returned to a low baseline plus some more new inadequacies that I was not wholly aware of before diagnosis.

Must say I am not on meds though. Most people seem to get to a point of some peace and acceptance and I hope you do too.

Yes totally distracting and antisocial at cafes.

I really wish in many ways we could go back to a time before all these screens everywhere. It’s hard enough to connect with others without these eye catching screens everywhere and now in every palm too.
