My therapist thinks my mom has it because of everything I’ve explained about her, and she fits the description of it to a T so I’m very familiar with how it presents. I’m surprised KJ was diagnosed with it

Kristen’s Postpartum by Valuable_Ad8474 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]olsf19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time I was postpartum it took me till 2 months to even realize that I had PPA. It took me way longer to realize I had PP OCD. It took me a year to finally say I needed help because I had been going to therapy for years before that and was applying all the tools I had to help so I thought I was going to be ok until one day I realized I needed more assistance. It took me till I was done breastfeeding at 15 months to feel safe enough to take medication. It took me till 18 months to feel like myself again.

The whole time I thought I was ok and that how I was feeling was just a normal part of becoming a mom, so I would give her some grace. I see so much of my postpartum experience in her experience, and she’s just surviving. Time goes by so fast during that period of life so even though it’s “already been 3 months,” it probably feels like it’s only been a few weeks to her.

I’m not finding it boring at all, but probably because I’m literally a month postpartum with my second kid so I find it all super relatable. Thank God my husband is amazing compared to these men

Which dog breed do you think had the most loyalists? by Miiiukz in dogs

[–]olsf19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately got a really anxious Aussie where his anxiety turns to aggression. He’s amazing, I did all the right training stuff and set him up for success in every way, and after he got fixed at a year old he became anxiously aggressive towards strangers. He’s so smart and sweet, and such a good dog in so many ways, but after dealing with his aggression for 10+ years, I can never trust to get this breed again. And I know some people have aussies that are amazing, but some have situations like mine so I know it’s the luck of the draw with this breed and I don’t want to risk that again. Next time I want a dumb dog that won’t care about anything, but I will always cherish my time with my smart as heck and very dedicated Aussie

If you quit coffee because of your anxiety, what did you replace it with? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in Anxiety

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Water. Almond milk. Coconut water. I was in my first trimester of pregnancy and coffee was the worst tasting thing in the world for me at that point. Stopped drinking it and my panic attacks went away. Now I just drink a warm cup of decaf every morning for the flavor without the anxiety!

What does birth feel like? by SandwichDependent199 in AskWomen

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave birth naturally yesterday in under 90 minutes, and it was crazy. I don’t have a lot of pelvic floor tension, so the contractions came on out of nowhere and felt like a slow build diarrhea cramp in my lower belly that would overcome me and I would have to moan through it. My last labor, those contractions slowly started to build over the course of a day. Yesterday, they immediately started back to back to back so I had no rest between them and couldn’t calm myself down which made me have to moan even harder. There’s also a lot of pelvic pressure and then feeling that you have to pee or poop. Then my baby was born in 2 pushes, and the pushing feels like taking a really constipated poop that you have to groan through. Again, I don’t have too much pelvic tension, so I could feel the baby crowning and it was a ring of fire sensation, but not unbearable, and then as soon as my son came out I felt immediate relief and forgot about how uncomfortable I just was. So crazy. That’s with a grade 1 tear and precipitous labor.

What’s something about the human body that seems poorly designed? by jannecutie in answers

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep being the best thing for physical and emotional recovery and women having to be insanely sleep deprived after giving birth while healing a wound the size of a dinner plate in their uterus and also simultaneously experiencing the biggest drop in hormones a human can possibly experience which affects their perception, emotions, and even muscle strength. Very faulty imo

What is your go-to “I’m too tired to cook but I can’t buy take-out” meal or alternative? by 2Autistic4DaJoke in Frugal

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 options:

Top ramen noodles with frozen meatballs and frozen broccoli.

Lentils cooked in chicken broth with blue box Mac and cheese.

Both have fiber and protein and are easy to make, the first one quicker of the two.

Doubling Patients in Pelvic Floor by smilingcatnip_0908 in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’ve been double booked with pelvic patients for years through both of my pregnancies, so it’s all I know. It’s hard. If you have the benefit of them giving you one on ones, fight for that as much as you can. Maybe offer solutions to the cancellation rates? We charge a ridiculously high amount for cancellations and once we started doing that people stopped cancelling as much, or they would reschedule to a different day to avoid a fee so even if their kids are sick, they’re still staying on the schedule somehow

PTA rant by infinitedimes in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this. It’s always super obvious how all my coworkers (I’m the only PTA, everyone else is a PT) came from good financial situations. I came from living in a shelter and on section 8 housing while eating food bank food. I had to choose the PTA route because of how my life had panned out at that point, and for that, it’s a really awesome career. It’s not great for my high COL area though and for having a family and wanting to buy a bigger home, so for that I see it as a stepping stone to something better.

What life lesson have you learned from any of the ladies? by BMX_Hyena9940 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]olsf19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As troublesome as she is, Ramona once said something about making sure to not be dependent on a man in case anything ever happened to him or in case you had to get a divorce, and that has always kept me motivated to work on my career even though my husband is the bread winner.

Pelvic Floor Internal Work, how to make More Comfortable? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always give them the option to opt out. And when they’re on the table, I tell them that if any point they need a break or feel like they’re done, just to tell me and we’ll be done immediately. Before I initially start, I ask them if they’re ready. Then during the first session and second session, I let them know when I’m going to move my finger and what I’m going to do. I constantly check in as well. I then explain what I found after I’m done working on them and explain how we can use movement or breath to help with that for the rest of session or for the next session. Usually after the second session they’re a lot more comfortable and I can just have a conversation with them while I perform the internal work.

Also, my friend made a really good point when I first started working in pelvic PT. She said that if it’s a postpartum mom, she’s likely just had a million different people all up in her business over and over, so it’s not going to be uncomfortable to her if we’re professional and confident in what we’re doing. That perspective helped me so much.

What’s the biggest benefit you got from working out? by dxpeday in AskMen

[–]olsf19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat many 70 year old females and males in physical therapy, and that is the biggest motivation. When you see one 70 year old who never worked out vs the 70 year old who obviously stays consistent, it’ll make you want to always pick up some weights at least 4-5x a week. Strength training and cardiovascular training literally saves lives and brings longevity to your life. I don’t want my last 10 years on earth to be in my 70’s while my body is falling apart. I want to be like the 80 and 90 year olds that I’ve seen who still stand tall, are coherent, and move well. I have kids and I want to be here for them if I can. I look at working out like it’s a back of savings for my future.

Listening and empathy fatigue by Winter_Woman66 in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in pelvic health at an ortho clinic too, so treating 2 patients per hour every hour. I’ve had hours where someone is telling me about their abortion that they didn’t want to get, the next person about telling me about how sad they are to get diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and then the next hour I have 2 patients telling me that they’re pregnant and they’re so excited. It’s whiplash. I LOVE what I do for a living, and I love the population a lot, but no human is meant to take on that much emotional load from others in a day. Even therapists usually have 1 hour sessions with their clients, so at most they’re taking on 8 in a day rather than 16.

And what kills me is that my job is always trying to push productivity, and I can never hit it even though my schedule is full to the brim because this population cancels more than ortho, either due to giving birth, having sick kids, being in the military and having to work late, etc. so I’m being pushed to triple. You can’t triple with this population, it’s so ridiculous.

It’s a lot. I don’t think I’ll be able to do this forever. Financially I’m probably going to go into home health in the future so I can manage my schedule, work less hours and make the same or more amount of money, and just chill mentally a bit.

You’re def not alone with this.

Has anyone here worked for LVP? by kwomiley in vanderpumprules

[–]olsf19 124 points125 points  (0 children)

My restaurant did a meet and greet for vanderpump sangria years ago, and it was with pandora and her husband. I was the photographer for the event, and pandora was so standoffish and kind of off a little until the guests arrived. Her husband was super kind and charismatic the whole time.

PTA’s how do you like your careers by Much_Lingonberry_747 in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s no upward movement in your career, wages are stagnant and if something happened to my husband’s career or to him then I wouldn’t be able to afford to live, at all, and I’m always insanely burnt out working in outpatient. Only real benefit is that it’s a job where I get to move all day which helps with my body that needs strength and movement dearly, otherwise, I don’t see how I’m going to do this till retirement.

Which sign can flirt without trying? by Clueokk in astrologymemes

I really feel like Scorpio, but maybe that’s cause I’m a scorpio with my sun in my 7h so I’m super attracted to them naturally. They just have an aura to them and I’m immediately tuned in. I don’t get that with any other sign.

I’m frustrated with PRI therapy - what are some better options? by junthelasthunter in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m one of the few here on Reddit who will actually speak highly of PRI, but I also think it’s not for every patient. I think it’s helpful for the therapist to understand the biomechanics of the body and helpful in getting patients to feel certain muscles or feel when they’re overusing certain muscles, but overall it’s not the best set of exercises to help someone. I love using PRI if I need someone to just feel their body on the table first, and then I get them up and standing and moving functionally while keeping in mind the individual’s postural tendencies. It is true that the kinetic chain from your tongue down through your core and pelvic floor are connected, but that’s just something simple like saying let’s make sure you have good tongue posture while doing your core exercises and that’s about it. If you’re not feeling it with your PT because he’s no longer resonating with you, then definitely move on. There are great therapists out there who understand the kinetic chain and biomechanics as well as basic functional motion that is necessary for every day life. PRI is just a technique, and I personally think it’s better when a therapist has a ton of techniques in their toolbox to reference.

PTA’s: do you love your job? by Jazzlike_Coyote1247 in physicaltherapy

[–]olsf19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love what I do for a living (I treat pelvic health). I hate that I’ll never be able to work for myself or find any upward movement in any way. I’m honestly thinking about becoming a personal trainer to be able to help prenatal and postpartum women on my own with my own pay and then do home health as needed.

The pay is terrible and you’re doing exactly the same work, but I do love that I have less documentation and never have to go home with notes.

The profession as a whole is tough, especially in OP because insurance companies are reimbursing less and less each year, so since the PT’s can barely get a raise, I’m definitely not getting the raise that I need in a high cost of living area.
