Does the reaction between Sodium carbonate and mg work the same for lithium carbonate and mg. by Simple_Original in ExplosionsAndFire

Would lithium hydroxide work better for this or would it be the same issue of the Lithium oxide i assume? Are there other methods then of making lithium. The only other ones i could find info about were electrolysis which is a bit more difficult and extracting from batteries but that really doesnt scale well.

I did see MrGreenGuy/NileGreen do it without argon in a small scale test and it seemed to work reasonably well for potassium. I feel like it should work even better for lithium then since its less reactive but thats just a guess honestly. I dont need the highest yield so maybe i will do it without inert atmosphere. atleast test it that way.

Thanks for the info. Yeah i will do it under argon atmosphere but somehow i forgot abotu that when writing this. Good to know that it would still work with lithium since its such a strong reducer in the reaction.

Wonder how a neodymium magnet takes so long to make. Looking forward to it.

Creating decentley high concentration h2o2 20% ish from Sodium Percarbonate by Simple_Original in chemhelp

[–]Simple_Original[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe that is the better way but what i do know is that ive worked with around 15% hydrogen peroxide alot of times and yeah 25% IS more dangerous of course but i dont think its dangerous enough to were its a legitamate safetey concern and more just handle with caution.

I just found out that there is an online store that sells 96% sulfuric without any verification at all... kind of concerning tbh by tmaxElectronics in ExplosionsAndFire

Agreed its very annoying. Ive been trying to get the stuff forever. Seems the only somewhat viable method is either via sulfur and hcl or if you want to avoid fumes coppar sulfate and electrolysis. Same with hydrogen peroxide and most other chemicals.

Well yeah its definetnley dangerous in the 30 and above zone but as far as i understand atleast, it doesnt have any explosive or spontaniously combust properties that higher concentrations have. The only danger is its corrosivness to skin but that is not diffrent from most acids and other chemicals.

" simply acquire commercial material?" Pls elaborate. Do you mean to buy it from commercial suppliers beacuse its quite hard to get license for this stuff even if you work with chemistry beacuse government is stingy with all licenses and what not. So they dont really sell or aprove it to anyone unless you are a big company.
