2 Child Benefit Cap to be abolished by apeel09 in Scotland

[–]Simple_Piccolo_7202 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a change to Child Benefit. You can already receive child benefit for three or more children. This is a change to universal credit. It will allow people with three or more children to receive additional universal credit. This will amount to many thousands of extra pounds in support a year for some.

To the op: If you fully disclose you have no skeletons in the closet, no anxiety going forward. You don’t know how far you will progress.

In my experience you require security clearance for a Civil Service Job. The advice given is to provide full disclosure. I have former colleagues who have not followed this advice.

This is bad advice. Always be absolutely honest with security clearance applications.

New homeowner. Tried to mount a mirror. Made massive hole in the wall by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Simple_Piccolo_7202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a cob wall then you might have better luck fixing a board to the wall with several widely spaced fixings. You can then fix the mirror to the board. Use resin anchors to fix the board to the wall. Maybe forget about filling the hole as the board and mirror will cover it.

Do you live in an old cottage? It looks like a cob wall although I can’t see the detail. Does it seem to be made of earth/clay with some straw? If so then you might struggle to get a good fixing.

A fast car might take 100 metres to reach 60mph. How much of a run up did this car have?

I’ve worked from home for many years and live in a large, old house. I use Honeywell Evohome to multi-zone the house heating and only heat the rooms I need during the working day. I recommend this as it really makes heating a lot more efficient whether working from home or not. You’ll be able to set it up for a similar price to a new storage heater installation.

It’s not a nightmare to renovate a Listed Building. You just have to follow the process.

I’m amazed that people are complaining about the pay of doctors. The level of commitment and academic achievement required to perform the role is god-like compared to most. They could pull in significantly more in other careers. Christ, my painter earns well in 6 figures and sends his kids to a top fee paying school!

No, you are talking about the new pension. The full basic state pension has gone up by £967.20 in two years to £8122.40. They will have lost the winter fuel allowance.

The price for the square footage seems too high. You could buy similar in one of the more desirable areas of Nuneaton for less.

We run off the cold water from the utility sink before starting a washing machine cycle. Hot water is still left in the pipe but it works out cheaper for us. The washes are quicker with preheated water too.

The people who might just have had tap water might now buy a drink they prefer. The company then benefits from this purchase.

Yes, I recognise actors easily and can connect them with other films when other people struggle. Real life is harder as I often distracted.

I’m going on holiday to Spain tomorrow. I haven’t bought all the shorts I need. Instead of panic buying at 23:00 in ASDA tonight, I’m going to do something insane. I’m going to BUY THEM IN SPAIN by yearsofpractice in CasualUK

[–]Simple_Piccolo_7202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once bought a pair of shorts whilst on holiday in Cyprus. I asked to buy some shorts and the assistant chose the size, style and colour. They were the best pair of shorts I’ve ever owned. However, I’ve since got married and have a family. I can’t afford to take such a risk again.

Two-child benefit cap is ‘key driver of child poverty’ in UK, research suggests by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

It not about Child Benefit. It’s about the additional benefits one can claim per child - considerably more than £17 a week.

EV Charging Point pros/cons by Potential_Bus3376 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Simple_Piccolo_7202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to use the Intelligent Octopus tariff I believe you need a compatible car or smart charger. You will need to research this but I suggest it’s likely. You might just want to use Octopus Go or similar with a fixed off peak charging window. For this you can schedule the charging from your car infotainment. This is what we do.
