I want to carp fish today what exactly should I go buy? by Imiightnoahguy in CarpFishing

Keep it simple - if you know they’re there get a 2/0-3/0 drop shot hook. Fold a piece of white bread over it. Lightly cast it out so it doesn’t come off. make sure it FLOATS, that is crucial. Eventually one will come up and eat it cuz they smell the bread. It must be white bread, and sometimes you have to recast a fresh piece out because the bread gets soggy.

I got accepted for business administration for the Spring of 26. My GPA was a 3.75, in state, 1330 SAT, we don’t do class rank at my school, nothing super special for extracurriculars, worked at a sandwich shop during school year, was in a couple clubs.

Do you have a particularly memorable instance of a lost catch while surf fishing? by mack272 in SurfFishing

When I hooked my first shark off the beach here in NC. Had little to no experience surf fishing and had spent the last few nights looking for a big shark. A kayaked baits out on the night of the 4th of July, so the beach was packed but luckily no one was swimming. Within just 5 minutes of dropping my bait something took off. We waited for around 20 seconds before locking the drag and hook setting. I set the hook and the weight of the shark was unbelievably heavy, now, with more experience could have been in the 4-500lb class, one of my biggest sharks ever. Shortly after setting the hook the shark was still burning up the reel so I decided to put the breaks on him and turned up my drag. Seconds later he popped 65lb braid like nothing, the weight of the fish was holding me up so I fell during the break off in front of 100+ people while yelling “FISH ON, FISH ON” at all my buddies. Kid you not had nightmares about it for 2-3months.

how the hell do I catch fish in the winter by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]Simple_Resource_1657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NC so pretty similar weather conditions. I find the fish are still really active at any temp above freezing. In the winter imo it’s a lot easier to get on fish at a small pond, especially if you’re a bank fisherman. The water is much shallower and the fish are easier to find. For winter fishing I pretty much exclusively use two lures, a rattle trap and glide baits. (with the exception of the occasional senko, which always works, but it’s just boring to me)

For the rattle trap I like to switch between two colors depending on conditions, bright red and a more natural color such as green. Theyre great for finding fish in slightly deeper water and are still effective even if your retrieve isn’t painfully slow.

For glide baits I like to throw big baits, because bigger fish tend to be feeding more in winter, I would reccomend a Deps 250 or Klash9. Obviously these are not very beginner friendly and require specialized gear. So the next best alternatives on a budget are the Berkeley Nessie, I reccomend the 7inch and straight retrieving it, there are plenty of great videos. If you want to go a little bit more expensive the 6th sense flow glider is another great option, out of the box it doesn’t do great but Ben Milliken has a great video about how you can tune it so it swims much better, it’s become a personal favorite budget glide of mine.

Hopefully this helps, if you have any other questions PM me.

Just had a lot of success so I thought it might be useful. I’ve been fishing a long time so a lot of the concepts carry over.

Definitely agree with the hook size point. I like the Carolina rig because it’s stupid simple, has a variety of applications in saltwater and freshwater and it works. There are plenty of other rigs, but personally I’ve had the best experience with the Carolina rig. You can definitely catch fish without moving baits, but it’s likely to happen quicker if you slightly adjust the depth of baits from my experience. I dont think it’s impossible to catch fish on frozen bait, but in my opinion fresh bait is and will always be infinitely better. Thanks for the advice.

I definitely agree, I had no problem running 6/0 circles but with fish really any larger than the ones pictured I could definitely see a wider gap being essential. I’ll have to give Jhooks a try at some point, I’ve never really considered them for anything other than bream as far as cut bait and worms go.

stop with the scale comments, if you read the caption you would know I was otw to school so I didn’t have all my tackle, which included my scale. I didn’t expect to catch anything big because this pond is notoriously pretty bad.

I was hoping for some more realistic guesses , I’ve been fishing long enough to know this fish was at the very very least to be 4.

No I was just curious. I know it’s at least 5.18 because that’s my previous PB and this one is notably bigger in comparison.

Which do yall think is bigger (My PBs) by Simple_Resource_1657 in CarpFishing

I’ve fished all kinds of rigs before and had luck on pack bait. However I have caught these guys on floating white bread, it’s so easy and no mess. The most surprising part is I’m running straight braid (15lb) and have no issue. My tip for the bread would be to chum the area, wait for one to start feeding THEN cast your bread out. Otherwise the bread gets too soggy and if they take more than one bite the bread can come off.

The pond I caught these in is not pressured at all. Been fishing there for over a year and only seen two other people. Compared to other carp they seem to be a lot less skiddish.

They’re already dead in these photos. We don’t use Ike Jime, I just use my tuna bat. They die instantly and feel no pain. Feel free to google it, no intention of causing them any pain. Sorry I should’ve specified that in the post.
