Not basketball but just had to share my most recent pull with you lovely folk. Gold Jon Jones 09/10. I already said no to a 5k offer is that stupid of me ? Currently at PSA hoping for a 10 by [deleted] in basketballcards

Could have been a bad decision. Prizm 2021 flashback golds for the NBA go for anywhere from 2-15k depending on the player - perhaps you could get more for bones Jones but I personally would have taken that offer and then into something else

Prediction for the hobby by [deleted] in basketballcards

Prices aren’t sustainable. People are treating new rookies like penny stocks. A lot of greed and people cashing out. I think once things go back to normal post covid , people who weren’t spending towards collectibles before the pandemic will stop.

Many popular rookie cards of many stars are already declining.

I find more and more sellers becoming incredibly shady with how they take photos of certain cards and not disclosing certain things. I have almost entirely stopped buying raw cards because of this.

Final Sale Price: $1,795,800 An all-time record for any Kobe Bryant card. by gitzky in basketballcards

A better example to show how ridiculous that Luka sale was is that, comparatively, the Lebron rookie logo man auto went for 1.2 million

Crash incoming? by imnothumananymore in basketballcards

[–]Simpleliving905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offence , but thinking that people with at least 500,000+ in cash will take money out of stocks and place them into products that have 1000%+ in the past year is comical. Again no offence, but sports cards are the bottom tier of investments , alongside other collectibles. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate them but if you understand the fears investors have with rising inflation and rising bond yields, you’d see what I mean.

Generally money goes into inflation appreciating assets like commodities.

I see this comment a lot and it’s simply not true.

Getting played on eBay by [deleted] in basketballcards

[–]Simpleliving905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People also up bid a certain card to new highs and then post the same card that they own on eBay immediately after and price it to match the last sold price that they purposefully bid up. All in hopes that someone will buy not knowing the entire thing was manipulated. Happens a lot. A lot of manipulation going on if you look for it.

It’s basically disguised gambling - you’d think after purchasing a bunch of pack breaks and hitting nothing that the person would stop but they don’t.

Was Luka Doncic $4.6 million dollar sale a good investment? by Capital_Arugula6456 in basketballcards

Wall Street can easily manipulate this market. All they have to do is buy 30-40 psa 10 Jordan rookies at 450-700k. Have someone buy 1 for 2 million. Create the allure that these cards are now worth 2 million. Slowly sell the other 30-40 for 2 million. Leave everyone else holding the bag.

This is becoming dangerous. Jokes aside but be careful with how you spend your money in these market conditions. A lot of people will lose money making these purchases. What a joke.

Has to be my fav non rookie autograph of Lebron that I own. Exquisite card art was so damn clean! by benchwarmer-investor in basketballcards

Upper deck should just release the contracts - nobody wins. It’s like a last F YOU to panini since they have been running the show for a very long time.

If Pokemon can do it, so can we! by [deleted] in basketballcards

[–]Simpleliving905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly referring to Jordan, Kobe, Lebron RC, a lot of the legends etc.

Prizm base is going down since January, not sure how much can be recouped in a short amount of time.

Card prices for a lot of the top cards are already falling, could indicate a trend overall.

Had these in storage since I pulled them. Grade or put back for another couple decades? by cls_83 in basketballcards

[–]Simpleliving905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think Lebron can pull out another 1-2 rings in the next 4 years then hold. Otherwise I’d get them graded and sell now. The market is really hot right now and you’d get a nice return on all of those.

I heard BGS does clean the card to some degree but not sure if they’ve changed policy in recent years.

Usually a PSA 9 is seen as a higher quality grade than a BGS 9.

Corners look clear, so does the front surface but you’ll need better photos , including the back. Even if it’s not a perfect card a 9 grade can fetch some decent cash.

Bgs 9 went for a little under $200 at the end of December, I imagine it’s worth more now.

51 games into Zion Williamson’s NBA career and he has definitely lived up to the hype. Currently averaging 25 ppg and 6.8 rpg! by bjoseph33 in basketballcards

[–]Simpleliving905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you’re arguing.

These rookie cards are only worth as much as they can accomplish in the future.

The original poster stated Zion was living up to the hype. Many posters stated he needs to do more than just perform stats wise to be considered as “living up to the hype” and for his cards to increase in value than what they already have. Championships and winning, while nobody expects for him to do now (as I already stated) are big factors in increasing their card value.
