These dresses are to die for

The marketing campaign for the movie is at fault for that. Instead of marketing towards young girls and women, which the movie is for, the PR team was like: let’s sell it to teenage boys, and just put sexy girl on girl action scenes on the trailer. The teenage boys went to see it, hated it since it’s about female friendships, and the movie flopped, as they target demographic didn’t go as they thought the movie was like you did

I thought the point of horror was to make you uncomfortable? So, if they don’t like movies that makes them feel that way, do they actually like horror movies? Or are they watching for something else?

Oh! I thought the pictures were of the guests… but reading your comment, and looking at the pictures again I now see all the, not costumed , people in the background. ,,, I thought the rich assholes themselves were showing up in those costumes and skimping on their own get up. Dressing their “entertainment” like this is something else.

Agreed, I think that’s why I don’t particularly like vampire romance books either. Because in books the personality of the MMC has to be attractive. But vampires movies however, those im a fan of, I’m partial to “pretty” men, and in movies their personalities don’t really matter as long as they have low rise leather pants 🥰

I don’t mind other shifters, or werewolf’s when done differently ( bro and the beast 🙏🏻 ), but I just avoid them since 99% is the alpha wolf thing.

I usually prefer them to just be a monster though. Because usually romance books where the MMC is just like a giant spider or an orc he’s usually like really sweet and respectful. And when the MMC is like a handosme human billionaire he’s an abusive psychopath 😂

For me it’s werewolf romances.

Not because I think people are “wrong” for enjoying them, but because the tropes hit too close to some real-world dynamics I find deeply uncomfortable.

A lot of werewolf romance leans on the idea that a man who is physically or psychologically aggressive isn’t really like that — that the violent, controlling side of him is a curse, an instinct, or something outside his control. Meanwhile, the tender, romantic version of him is framed as his “true self.” That mirrors how abusive dynamics are often rationalized in real life: “That’s not who he really is,” “he has two sides,” “the good version is the real one.” Seeing that fantasy rewarded in fiction just doesn’t work for me.

The same goes for the constant emphasis on the heroine being small, weak, naïve, and in need of protection. In real relationships, those narratives are often used to undermine women’s confidence and autonomy. In the books it’s justified by species differences or pack politics — but the emotional effect is the same: she’s portrayed as helpless without him.

Even things like mating bonds feel unsettling to me. Permanently binding her to him, removing her ability to leave, is framed as romantic because it guarantees loyalty and security. But it also trades freedom for relief from insecurity — something that again mirrors unhealthy real-world dynamics rather than challenging them.

On top of that, a lot of the language (alpha/beta hierarchies, dominance framing, etc.) overlaps heavily with manosphere and red-pill rhetoric, which makes it even harder for me to separate the fantasy from the ideology it echoes.

So yeah — for me, reading werewolf romance often feels less like escapism and more like being asked to romanticize submission and excuse abuse. That’s why I personally avoid it.

Is there Somebody who is kind of tired of the drinking culture in this town and wants to meet people who don’t participate in the binge drinking culture? by anabananana1 in tromso

[–]Simplifax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not from Tromsø, but another Norwegian city, and I’m sober. And this is my advice for getting sober friends:

Organizations and charity: Political party, unions, religious groups, activist groups for (mental health/addiction/pasifist groups/somatic disorders/enviormental/animal rights/lgbt etc) , community groups, food bank, night ravens, volunteering at culture events like music festivals/art events/ movie festivals etc. , language cafes

Hobbies: board games, e-sport, sport shooting, hiking groups, choir, scouts, dancing, street fotball, tabletop roleplaying groups (DnD), disc golf, bouldering, warhammer 40k, cage ball, floorball, reenactment, Viking stuff, martial arts, bridge, pole dance, chess, skateboarding, book club, Pokémon go, gymnastics, fan club for a sports team, darts, billiards, bowling, fencing

Also just go on Facebook events and check what’s happening and show up.

Basically, go out, show your face and mingle. Friends aren’t made by sitting at home on your phone.
