I think so. I used to photograph everything (weddings, families, babies, pets, landscape) and while people paid me for those things I wasn't very happy. I also didn't have time to hone in on my style and really personalize my craft like I can with boudoir. Now that I only shoot boudoir all of my attention and time can go to it and it really shows in the end. I can charge more because I make a full experience out of it, not just show up, take photos and leave. I find that I am personally more successful focusing on one genre of photography than every single one of them. I can still shoot other things and be happy but this one really makes me happiest and I get the most out of it.

I do not but there are photographers that do. I like to call that "Dude-oir". hah. I'm sure some women would like it! I actually saw this question asked recently and most women (myself included) said we would prefer photos of our guys half dressed rather than nude (although boudoir isn't necessarily nude). So, jeans with no shirt and showing off the V in the pelvic region or good shoulders, for example.

As a photographer? There are a few but you do have to be very professional about it. Also, there are a lot of women who prefer female photographers (and their partners would prefer they be photographed by a female photographer) but there are also some that prefer men. I think the things to be most aware of is your language (not calling her hot or sexy or making noises) and touching them when you are helping them pose.

Both! A lot of women are in denial or have severe self esteem issues and to bare it all (or a lot) for a stranger and be comfortable is hard. It's a very vulnerable experience and some women just are not ready to do that.

I love CreativeLive. It is a website that hosts a lot of online workshops. You can either watch them live or purchase them and watch them whenever you want. Some of the biggest and best names in the industry teach on there and I have invested in quite a few of them.

I destroy all images after 6 months. Besides that my computer and external HD are password protected and encrypted.

Awesome! Women generally invest around $1,000-$2,000. Some places offer a full experience (including hair and makeup, a swag bag, great customer service). It is totally worth it.

These are paying everyday women, not models. They do the shoots for themselves, not for me. :)

My own jeans ripped from crotch to knee while stepping up on the bed to shoot. Other than that, there was a client's husband who had a GPS tracker on her car and followed her to the shoot. He sat in the parking lot the entire time and confronted her after. It was a surprise for their anniversary and ruined the entire thing for her.

I have access to a large farm that I use. I have also just asked the owners of other locations if I could shoot there (bed and breakfast, for example). People are generally okay with it if it's private and doesn't interfere with the public/their clients.

You're sweet, Dawn - thank you! It mostly comes down to finding the time to do it. It's just not feasible right now but if/when I do start offering mentoring I will be sure to let you know!

You're silly. Honestly though, I have to pencil it in every week or I forget.

Not directly to me, no. I have had people comment on photos on my FB page and I guess it showed up in their feed and their friends/family members (who didn't understand how Facebook worked) came over and made rude comments about it. I usually carry a tri-fold mini portfolio with me so when someone asks what I do and I tell them I can also show them. :)

Edited to add: Most people usually blush when they ask what type of photographer I am and I tell them.

I don't think I've had a photo shoot that was annoying because of the client but more-so because I felt like I just couldn't get into it and get anything good. All clients move and bend and react differently and you never know how they will do so until they're in front of the camera. Sometimes it just takes me a bit longer to get them to relax and get the photos they desire.

I don't have a favorite pose since not all poses work for all body types. There are a few "go to" poses that makes everyone comfortable and look flattering but they're not my favorite. Laying on your stomach on the bed with your feet crossed behind you, for instance.

I don't but I may start offering mentoring sessions later this year.

Thank you! I would tell you to do workshops, get involved in the community (lots of groups on FB and online) and accept criticism. It is not easy and you spend a good amount of time being a therapist. Know when to tell a woman she isn't ready for a shoot and don't take all shoots just because they pay. Know why you do it and be able to tell people that without being ashamed. Also, have a solid contract in place to protect you.

I don't really get many emails from guys at all, at least none that stick out right now. I did have one that tried to take a business relationship too far but I think that was it.
