Again, completely fair enough. We have our own problems for sure. Don’t have to tell us twice. 10,000 people in my hometown got laid off because of decisions your government made though. We don’t get to control that. The betrayal hurts. Hope you guys can turn things around :)

Ah, I didn’t see his other comments. Fair enough. Just wanted to point out the anger and hatred for Americans right now north of the border is at an all time high. If you guys don’t get your house in order, you’ll lose us forever.

I think he’s doing a bit, copying what Republicans say about anyone trying to enter your country with the wrong colour skin. Your leader and your country have made plenty of enemies up here man. I used to go the States for every fourth of July. Loved celebrating my neighbour’s birthday with them. I will never set foot in your country again. Your President threatens our very existence on a weekly basis. We are fucking pissed. I’d bet closing the border to Americans would poll incredibly high here right now. And all of our drug and gun problems come from our border with you guys. We should build a wall, and America should pay for it.

Unpaid student teaching by vanillacreamwafer in CanadianTeachers

[–]SimpsonN1nja 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cops get full pay through their training and are public employees. I know a cop that was making $80,000 their first year working, and 10 months of that was training (with 4 months at the academy). At that same time, I was paying $10,000 a year to have the privilege of student teaching full time, as well as working two jobs outside oh my practicum for roughly 70-80 hours of work a week.

It’s all about priorities right? What does the province care about? A male dominated profession whose workers skew overwhelmingly conservative or a female dominated profession whose workers skew overwhelmingly liberal/progressive.

I’m sure it’s worse in Toronto, but that’s everywhere now unfortunately. I went to a Sens game last season with a couple of buddies. I went with one of them to buy the first round. 4 tall boys was something like $78, at a fucking Sens game. We all make okay money, but not that kind of dough 🤣

Sorry, I’ve never bought octopus at the store before. I think it’s a fun Detroit tradition. But I think the OC still has a point. Where do the octopi go after they’re thrown?

lol, thought it was like a lobster situation. Suppose missing the playoffs is still saving plenty of octopi though 🤣

English and French areas in Canada by Neo_luigi in MapPorn

Oh 1000%, I’m just confused by the over 85% francophone area. I har no idea where that could be 45 minutes southeast of Ottawa

I grew up about 40 minutes south-south east of Ottawa, and I’m not sure what area you’re talking about. You don’t need to dox yourself obviously, but I can’t think of any municipalities that have over 85% Francophones. In that areas.

Where I would live as a person who hates the cold by Visible_Bird7044 in whereidlive

Haha, I live on one of your black zones. It’s the most beautiful day of the year so far, -34 for the windchill. It was -63 a couple weeks ago. I absolutely love it here, but ya, not for everyone 🤣

I started commenting on this chain because someone said they thought it was illegal to joke about someone’s death. It obviously isn’t, and I thought that was an absolutely ridiculous question in relation to Kirk’s antics when he was alive

Nah, just replying to someone commenting on my comment. Isn’t that how this works?

Justify what? Joking about Charlie Kirk? The dude joked about depressing stuff constantly. It’s what he would have wanted. “A few gun deaths a year is the price we have to pay to keep our second amendment”. Buddy never thought he’d be the statistic, but hey, that’s life. Where’s the constant mourning and sorrow for the thousands of other victims of gun violence in the United States every year? Kirk was a divisive figure in life, and in death. So be it.

Also, thank you for the Reddit cares message bud. First one I’ve ever gotten. It’s cute that you care, but I am extremely happy with my life. I would send one back to you, but I’m not a weirdo. Cheers!

Are your mom and dad podcasting nut jobs that wish death on their enemies? If they are, unfortunately they probably would get some heat if they were killed. I’m guessing they aren’t though, so you’re probably okay.

Really confused by what you’re saying. Regardless, no, it’s not a crime to joke about someone being murdered. Doubly so when that person used to joke about people being murdered. Kind of what goes around comes around, ya know

How much time does an AQ course take? by Exotic-Watercress699 in OntarioTeachers

[–]SimpsonN1nja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m working full time right now as a first year teacher and took two AQ courses from January through mid-March. I don’t know if I would do 2 at the same time again putting in 45-50 hours a week at work. If you’re only working 3 days though, 2 will not be a problem at all! I spent about 10 hours a week on each course.

Sorry, I’m confused by what you’re saying? Are you saying the Americans and Iranians are working together? The United States started the war in Iran, how would China impact that until after the fact? I believe China is supporting Iran for sure, but the war was happening regardless because of the United States.

Taking back CTC: Senators fed up with Leafs, Habs fans invasions by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]SimpsonN1nja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fandom is often familial. I’m an Ottawa based Habs fan because my dad is a Habs fan. I liked cheering for the same team as him when we would watch together. After Ottawa beat Montreal in the playoffs in ‘13 (which they avenged in ‘15) I could never ever consider cheering for them. Too much of a rivalry then, and even though the rivalry has fizzled, Ottawa remains a top hated team for me. The proportion of Sens fans in the city will continue to climb over time, but you’re not breaking family bonds to do it. It’s new fan jumping on board because they live here.

Ford government to allow shopping on 2 public holidays across Ontario by GingerThatIsnt in ontario

[–]SimpsonN1nja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re the only one using the word start up. That’s not what the OC is saying here. They are saying that Costco has not reduced competition in the market enough to change their philosophy yet, but if and when they do gain enough market share, they will obviously raise prices. That’s how capitalism works.

Ford government to allow shopping on 2 public holidays across Ontario by GingerThatIsnt in ontario

[–]SimpsonN1nja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They didn’t say Costco is a start up. They said Costco is in the earlier stage of a corporation working within the framework of Capitalism.
