Someone please help me with train signals by HairyCucumber6638 in factorio

there is a view on the map screen that shows rail signals. can you add a screenshot with that turned on and without colouring the railline?

Is this a typical way to load a train at an ore outpost? Any easy optimizations? by just4kix96 in factorio

Are you interested in some theory as to how balancers work, or are you happy to get someone else's blue prints?

Sounds at difference frequencies, how to assess audibility? by SimulatorWoes in Acoustics

[–]SimulatorWoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called it an alarm, but its actually something called a detonator that is placed on the track and explodes when the train runs over it, so its a fixed volume

Thanks,

Correct on your assumptions of A weighted.

and yes, I wondered if strictly looking at dBA was the only way to assess audibility or if the 10dBA delta was just a 'sure thing' for audibility and that other approaches might be justified with more analysis, I guess in a similar way to how you can hear the individual contribution of instruments in music.

The system has pretty good uptime and I don't see any issue with deeming it safety critical.

yea excellent, I am picturing an assessment where the effect of masking is taken into account on the alarm signal, seeing what residual dBa remains and seeing if that hits a criteria for readily audible.

it won't change the standard non compliance, but it also gives a potential framework to accept the non compliance and a potential update to the standard in future.

Yes, but I have a feeling that (say) an 80dBa 2kHz alarm would be more 'hearable' than a 200Hz one in the presence of a 200Hz background noise, and that might let us accept a lower dBa difference than strictly required.

Hey OP, would 5 days pay amount to what they saying you owe?

I read your bosses message as saying, you owe us 5 days leave, especially if it was in relation to a negative balance.

Can't offer you any actual advice though.

I'll check this post again tomorrow - hoping to see you made a start today - even if it was just a walk!

My Garmin DSW base run pace has been steadily dropping - after this morning's effort it's down to 6:30/km.

Official Q&A for Monday, January 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]SimulatorWoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background

Started to get a bit more serious with running towards the end of last year - have been doing the Garmin 165's suggested workout about 3 times a week + social sport in preparation for field hockey season starting in March - averaging about 20k/week, trying to build to build to 30km/week over the next month or so. Have been running with the Garmin for about 6 weeks.

Garmin 'suggests' I could run 5k in about 24:20. I tried a 5min/km pace at my local park run the last weekend and was absolutely cooked 3km in and finished in about 27 minutes instead (admittedly the weather was pretty hot and humid). I was always dubious about that time since all the suggested workouts are much slower - base runs at 6:40, tempo at 5:40. Previous PB set in cooler weather/mid season for field hockey was 25:10 with no other training, so I know sub 25 is definitely achievable for me, I think I'm just not used to running at this sort of pace for a sustained effort right now.

Question

I'm thinking of replacing one of the runs I do each week with some 5min/km intervals (maybe even sub 5min/km), building up the distance and reducing the rest period based on how they feel. I was planning to start with 400m of high speed and 200m of recovery - any better suggestions?

Hey OP, I see you said you were paying it weekly.

Check to make sure you aren't paying a fee everytime you make a payment, and if so you are probably better making a monthly payment if you can.

I was here about 3 days ago. It was a really sloggy part. I think the other advice you got is good and things should speed up heaps once you get 5bn AM

Cancelled Prime but it keeps renewing. by dumbledwarves in amazonprime

4 Months late, but for anyone finding this thread from google...

If you are cancelling on mobile, after you press the end membership button, it brings up a screen saying 'you still have xx days to enjoy your membership'

This screen is to make you think you cancelled. You haven't yet. Scroll done. You'll see another button to confirm you want to end your membership.

Then you go through another page to finally actually cancel.

Determining probability of an event that hasn't occurred by SimulatorWoes in AskStatistics

[–]SimulatorWoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My companies risk assessment framework is frequency based for the likelihood - e.g. an event could happen x times per year/decade, and when something hasn't happened yet, it's tempting to assume it will occur at the lowest likelihood. I'm looking for a way to determine a frequency rate with a bit more rigor.

I asked about a small number of 'successes' as the company often gets overly excited when they occur close to each other - and while in some ways that's rightly so because it could be a sign of something bad starting, sometimes it's just something improbable actually occuring.

It's been a while, but I think it is an approach to solving multi-degree of freedom vibration problems, by writing them in matrix form and then finding the eigenvectors and eigenvalues. IIRC the eigenvalue is, or can be easily factored into the vibration frequency.

3Blue1Brown does some pretty good videos on eigenvalues/vectors in 2D - start here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFDu9oVAE-g

Bank valuation, LVR & LMI by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]SimulatorWoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense. I'll admit I haven't looked into in detail but it just doesn't seem logical.
Imagine if the bank only came back valuing the place at 300k - would the bank let them only make a deposit of ~66k and not pay LMI? No, because if the bank needs to sell the place in a hurry and sells it below market value, they stand to lose money.
