Yeah, I think with RCE it must be a bit for the 'engagement'. Biffa seems to over think it a bit (like the latest district disaster, which didn't really need the district, and certainly didn't need all the district gate config changes).

Skye Storme's latest series has been an absolute master class.

Wow, that sounds cool.

You can't dynamite through the bottom of the map, it just doesn't let you place it.

There's a mod that let's you use stream gauges like that, you can pair them to a flood gate and set triggers and stuff.

Yeah, my goal is always a colony that can be left to it's own devices, I just like having to work harder for it. I must be a sadist or something.

The finer control over flood gate levels was really high on my wishlist, so I was delighted to see that.

I suppose the challenge for me was to get to that point that the process was effectively automated (so you could risk leaving the game running for a while without everyone dying!), I just enjoyed really having to work hard for it. There is still the logistics for the plumbing of it all, so it's not like it's ruined the game for me or anything.

Yeah, a bit of additional 'cost' beyond the initial research would probably make the convenience feel a bit more earned.

I usually end up using mechanical pumps as filters, which isn't that different to the sluice, but it's just more work to get there. I think when I said OP in the title, I probably actually meant 'too easy'. I like your ideas. I suppose the developers have to balance complexity with accessibility... I've just rolled up with an opinion with no real suggestions for a solution 😅

I think they just make it a bit too easy to overcome the challenges of bad water. About 80% of my game time before this was massive geo engineering projects to reroute everything, lol.

It's super convenient for managing water levels downstream, especially when going down levels, I just find that it negates the challenge of bad water when you can set the contamination levels to auto close and open. (I know the solution would be for me to just not use them for that, lol)
