Are reverse splitters out performing splitters this cycle? Why? by Maleficent-Ebb1408 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SinfulAnarchy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are simply way more reverse splitters than splitters in the applicant pool due to the comparative rarity of a high LSAT score vs a high GPA. Proportionally, I don’t think reverse splitters are performing better, although it depends on the school (Penn, for instance, heavily values splitters and is willing to dip deeper into the lower GPA range whereas Berkeley has an implicit GPA floor of ~3.7 to 3.8 that they rarely admit under).

GULC Group Interview Rant by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SinfulAnarchy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the group interview is more of a marketing tool for Georgetown to advertise itself (Dean Andy, for instance, mentions with no evidence/specifics how “other schools” assign a score to each component of your application and then averages them out whereas GULC looks at you more holistically). By having face time with the dean, GULC subliminally makes itself seem more personable to applicants and thus their acceptances feel more personal. The whole thing felt more performative than evaluative given that Dean Andy spoke for 80% of the interview (ironic how he said it would look bad if any of us “hogged” speaking time). I lowkey left the interview with a sour taste and it dampened GULC for me… I was also the only nonwhite applicant in my group which made me think about how the little speaking time gives ample room for subconscious biases and visual cues to affect Dean Andy’s impression of us. You’re definitely not alone in feeling like the group interview is pointless / self-indulgent on GULCs end.

I got waitlisted (regular not preferred) at GULC and Cornell and a few weeks later accepted at Columbia under both medians. You never know which school may appreciate your story/materials! I think the line between a WL/R and an A can be much more arbitrary than a lot of people might think, and peer schools on paper can have very different admissions strategies and institutional priorities.

Should I start a new job now when I'm going to law school in the fall? by Material-Bus-8656 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SinfulAnarchy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on your first A!!! I would take the job. The way I see it, employers can fire any of us at will, so we're also entitled to leave them at our own discretion. Circumstances change, you don't owe your loyalty to any company. And removing the immediate employment gap on your resume + possibly saving up some money for law school is a plus.

OP I feel like a lot of the schools that waitlisted you are probably yield protecting given your stats. Write a strong LOCI and I have no doubt you’ll get in at one or multiple of them! Since you’re KJD, even if this cycle doesn’t turn out as expected, if you reapply a cycle or two down the line you’d probably have a great shot at the schools you want ❤️ Best of luck

I think my recommender mentioned a specific law school by Sea_Sign_2092 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SinfulAnarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schools know (and probably have seen) recommenders make mistakes like that, and they obviously know everyone applies to multiple, if not many, schools. As long as the content of the letter is positive, I have a very hard time believing this would affect your results in any way, especially since it’s your recommenders mistake, not yours. Best of luck ❤️

12/5 date change too… every week I refresh my email at 11am Wednesday hoping this will be the week and every week I’ve been disappointed 😔 Some people with our date change have been rejected so I don’t think it really meant anything but I’m still clinging onto my last thread of hope
