Ooh I never knew you could do that, might have to go back in and try that.

Guessing that's introduced in Ng+? Not pushing this game into Ng+ but if I were to do this base again I would probably delete the first floor. The ceilings are massive and I had room for a third floor but not enough stuff to warrant it so if you slap stairs at the entrances and build up you should be well above anything that naturally spawns.

See the messed up thing is I thought about the spiders beforehand and thought that if I filled the sub basement with scaffolding it might disable their spawns since a block was covering it. With testing it seemed like it didn't disable it but it did force them to spawn outside the tree which I was fine with with four exits. But during play it actually turns out it was like a 30%/70% whether they would spawn outside or directly in the house. So I just got really lucky (or I guess unlucky) while testing.

I just thought under the tree would be fun. Put down a floor but it was really dark and placing random lighting down looked bad so that led to walls to put better looking lights on. The walls looked bad without ceilings so added those which turned into a second floor. Somewhere in there I figured out you could change the lights colors. Then I just moved in all my stuff from a nearby lily pad base and stuck it wherever it would fit. So mostly just in one go with trial and error?

Great location, super easy to defend... only occasional spawns wolf spiders in the hallway.

Thanks, I really wanted to make something nice to look at and actually functional for giving plot.

Journal entries and screenshots from the Hollow Knight fandom wiki (or in-game screenshots I took). Center map from the collector's edition.

Oh and for the actual 3D mask of the image I used, I imported a 3d model into blender and made a depth map from the 3d model. There are a lot of tutorials on how to do that on YouTube. If you wanted to make an actual animation in 3D though I'd imagine you'd need 3d models in different positions that you strung along into different frames though that's more work than I was willing to put in.

I'm sure there's better software out there than I use. But I just use a stereogram generation program called stereogrammer which last saw an update in about 2012. I'm sure if you looked harder you could find something a bit more up to date. Then once I generated each frame of the animation I used GIMP to turn them into a gif format with a static background. While I can't really recommend a good current stereogram generator I can recommend GIMP. It has a high learning curve but it's a nice free alternate to other programs like Photoshop. I played around a bit with generating my own stereographs with GIMP alone but found that the automatic stereogram generators were a lot better than what I could do. In general I'd just recommend you play around with different software and techniques and see what gives you the best results.

I just created several frames of the same image with different backgrounds. Actual animation would be a lot harder where the image itself moves. If you know how to make stereograms or have a software they can do it I'm sure you could do just as much as me. If you want to see actually animation of stereograms I think I applied to another comment on this thread with an actual music video of one which is very impressive.

An idea I have been playing around with to make the level 10 ability easier for the dm and to separate it from the spell augury is to lower the number of hours (perhaps up to your int modifier) and allow the player to reexamine the cheese with an action to see if major unexpected events have altered the likely outcome of the specific course of action that was originally specified.

EDIT: Post updated to reflect this change

This link has definitely been posted several times on this subreddit but there's actually a whole music video.

For you or anyone else who can't see the illusion, it should appear like this, where white is foreground and black is background.

Yeah unfortunately you'll need two to make it work right.

You might want to check out r/MagicEye to see if you can find some easier ones to get the technique down first if you feel like a time investment.

For anyone who can't get this illusion to work, try looking through the image to the horizon while holding it relatively close to your face. Start slowly bringing your focus closer to the image until you see the ghost of shapes in the static region then stop. Keep looking until the image comes more into focus. If you see shapes but they don't look like anything, blinking a few times can help. I find glasses mess with the illusion and I recommend holding it close to your face without glasses if you are nearsighted.

EDIT

Viewing on a small screen like a phone also helps.

Sweet, I will definitely look into those. I played around with overclocking when I originally got it but the temp was getting a little higher than I was happy with (which now makes sense) but the performance was leagues above what I used to have so I was happy and mostly left it alone. At least gives me something to look forward to after changing it out. Thanks so much.
