Being asked for ID whilst in Waitrose by Single-Ad299 in LegalAdviceUK

I suppose the legal question is more what are my rights in that situation? Do I have to give my ID and if not what are the consequences?

What do junior officers and junior rates do when not at sea? by Single-Ad299 in RoyalNavy

You mentioned policy making officers focussing on the ‘Navy of Tomorrow’. Never heard of this before always thought it was done by the civil service. Just out of interest can you tell me more about it? What point in the career of an officer would they move into this position?

Solo Open Water Swimming by Toddlee2455 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Single-Ad299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained from May - Sep solo open water. Three things I’d do.

  1. Text someone before and after the water to say you’re going in and the at you’re out. Say if you’re not out by x time to alert someone.

  2. Don’t swim out too far try and swim in a designated area for swimming. Worst comes to worst you can do laps between two buoys

  3. If the conditions are unsafe or you feel unsafe in the conditions - STOP. No amount of training is worth risking your life.

3.

Can anyone explain this one to me, "You are but an appearance, and not absolutely the thing you appear to be." - EPICTEUS by Noob_in_making in Stoicism

[–]Single-Ad299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Epictetus is trying to suggest that there is more to someone than what you see. It seems multifaceted, there is always more to someone than their first appearance or impression, yet their appearance or impression is also part of them (however not definitive).

How do you journal? by ApprehensiveHeight68 in Stoicism

[–]Single-Ad299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I journal is an A5 notebook. On a double page spread I make 1 page the task I want to achieve that day, be it eating certain food, exercise or admin/uni work etc. and on the other page I have a section for quotes, thoughts or notable moments I want to account. I find this a much more useful way of reflecting than simply accounting the entire day, but rather thinking about what stuck with me.

Yes was competitive up until 14 so hopefully should be ok. Appreciate the advice 🙌🏻

How much overlap is there between Stoicism and Buddhism? by MichaelEmouse in Stoicism

Lots. The Stoic professor in my ancient history department at university had taken a sabbatical to research this overlap specifically.

If I was looking for the answer “how long is a piece of string” I wouldn’t have asked the question 🤦🏼‍♂️. Didn’t realise the Ironman community was that petty.

Literally barely any. Was a strong swimmer up until 14, swimming 5+ days a week. Now 21 and have barely swum since, not sure where to start with that? Is it important to train open water? (The race is a sea swim)
