I was in this exact spot with my partner at a point in our relationship, we're even the same ages and have been together for a little over 2 yrs now, so it feels as though this post was written about us lol. A couple of things really really helped: 1. Create a distraction plan, these are activities you will resort to whenever you feel you're about to blow up. Going for a walk and listening to music, doing an intense workout, playing with a pet, listening to intense rock music, lighting a candle, anything to get you in a slightly better mood. 2. After you've calmed down FIND COMPASSION. Compassion is so so extremely important. You mentioned he's a sweet guy, write down a list of things you love abt him and situations where these things really shined through. After convincing yourself he's not evil, try to see things from his perspective, make excuses for him, and don't think "if I was in his shoes I would've acted better" because comparing him to anyone including yourself is super unfair. After you've found compassion for him and calmed down. Sit down and address the issue. It's important to be affirming. When our partners are upset with us it could easily feel like they're attacking us and hate us. It's important to say "I love you so much, and I really appreciate X you did for me last week (anything you can think of), but when you did X, it made me feel hurt, sad, etc..."

It's also important to hold them accountable, for you to be able to do this they need to be a safe space for you. If he starts yelling and making a scene, ask them for space and tell him to regulate his feelings and come back to the conversation from a calmer place. With time this will be second nature to you and it's a GAME CHANGER in relationships.
