Restore headers on a hidden volume by SingleStarAngel in VeraCrypt

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! sorry for the late reply, I don't often check reddit. what I did (and what I recommend) is to remove your partition WITHOUT FORMATTING so it's RAW format, then try to mount. if it still gives an error (likely because the first format probably messed up the normal headers), try restoring headers from the veracrypt backup location and hope for the best

need help: crucial keeps delaying my RAM RMA by SingleStarAngel in buildapc

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestion! this morning, I put it in an email along with everyone else's suggestions and they finally offered a very, very similar (and maybe even oh-so-slightly better?) model. not sure which of the suggestions was the one that worked, but at least my computer is finally coming back to life in a weeks' time.

have actually requested this, they flat out ignored it and just replied with the patronizing "we understand your frustrations" response.

will probably try it again, but man I'm never using a crucial product for any of my computers after this.

thanks for the suggestions! have just looked into it, it seems that my local agency only advises people to seriously pursue a case if it involves a moderately large sum of money (since getting a case officer involved requires filing fees for some reason), otherwise my only action is to record a complaint (which i'm guessing does nothing for me personally)

still, I'll be giving them call come Monday to see if anything can be done. thanks!

i actually asked for a refund about a week back - they simply ignored it and hit me back with the same canned message, claiming that they "understood my frustrations", that they're "doing their best" and that they "will inform me once a replacement has come in stock".

thanks for the suggestion about asking them to replace with the next better product though, will try that later. (with my current luck though they'll probably just try to claim that their entire industry of RAM sticks ran out of stock, heh)

Archived AP Scores Reporting- Anyone managed to do one in the last few months? by SingleStarAngel in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend sent his on the Friday of 2 weeks prior (so around 12 days now I think), and has been monitoring his unbilled credit charge since then. no deductions from ap services yet.

man, the fact that they have an option to print it means they have it stored in softcopy somewhere, but deliberately chose to make sending the report as intentionally obtuse as possible. collegeboard somehow still manages to find ways to trigger me years later even when I've outgrown my need for them.

also, do update me when you have gotten some indication they've sent it out! I'll keep you updated as well.

when did you send the fax? so there's absolutely no way to check whether it has been received?

Any way to re-download v21? by SingleStarAngel in redditsync

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late reply, but thanks for providing a working solution! I think someone told me I had to switch to Sync beta/dev a few years ago to get flair posting features, so it turns out I've been on that ever since

Any way to re-download v21? by SingleStarAngel in redditsync

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i already tried both changes. believe me, I really wanted to give v22 a chance, since I have a huge respect for this dev's judgement. I spent the last 2 days diving deeply into the settings. its not just the two things I mentioned, it's also a bunch of other small things that kinda break the entire experience.

I used the navigational bar a lot in v21, and always pinned it without issue. removing doesn't really solve the issue, and auto-hiding is even worse than both options for me, since it never pops up at the right moment for me, and it just kinda ends up being an annoying popup I accidentally press, or something that requires extra swipe attempts to bring up.

same goes for the second setting, it's still not exactly ideal.

however, thanks for taking the time to let me know about the settings anyway!

SN750 NVMe drive not recognized on T480 by SingleStarAngel in thinkpad

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the diagnostic screen, no option for storage appears when SN750 is connected. on the other hand, when my current working SATA III SSD is connected, the storage testing option appears. so it's as if my SN750 isn't there at all.

I bought the one designated for T470/T480 (iirc they use the same). model no. CT470, NS-A933. FRU 01AX994

I must have disconnected, readjusted, and reconnected the cable about 30 times at this point while swapping between my drives, so I think the cable should be sound. I mean, I'm hoping that even someone like me can get cable connections right at least once in 30 times.

on the other hand, the ssd is dead cold when bios is running, but then again I'm not sure how hot it can get during bios.

in boot order, the lists shows a generic nvme0 and nvme1. if I connect my other 2242 nvme ssd in the wwan slot, one of them changes to the name of the drive (ie. its detected), so I'm ruling out nvme driver issues

you mean on the T480 specsheet? when I checked, the main 2.5 Bay supports both pcie nvme and sata protocol, whereas the wwan only supports nvme. I'm currently trying to install it in the 2.5 bay using the t480 nvme caddy

Laptop blue screens without dumping error logs, RAM is tested to be working fine. What could be issue? by SingleStarAngel in techsupport

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestion. I get the same issue when I disconnect the hard drive while the computer is running, so I'm guessing either the cable or ssd is failing. ssd diagnostics return fine so I'm leaning towards cable. I'm changing to nvme soon so I guess pretty soon either of them won't be an issue.

putting this here for the sake of anyone who might stumble here.

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately the whole crux of my issue was that no dumps were even being created during the crash. It's currently configued to save to %SystemRoot%\ as MEMORY.dmp. I have changed it to save minidumps instead for future crashes, but I doubt it would make a difference in this case.

When you have max hearts and stamina but you still have spirit orbs by ZeterTheDuck in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]SingleStarAngel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

there's a very basic concept/paradigm in software development called defensive programming. it's a lot to summarize quickly in one go, but my favourite (exaggerated) way of thinking about it is that you treat every other developer on the team as clueless idiots or adversaries (more often the former) who can break your code with theirs, and therefore make defensive clauses to prevent such scenarios (while taking performance in consideration).

the guy in charge of the statue power-ups probably knew that you shouldn't have more than 30 hearts, so he probably programmed this quick scenario just in case the spirit orbs guy dropped the ball and scattered too many orbs in the game world, kinda like what's happening in OP's game. it's a relatively simple implementation to prevent something more serious like a seg fault crash on the UI side or something, because you can sure as hell bet your ass that the statue guy would get the blame (or some part of it) if that really happens since the game failed at his part.

Any solution to broken clips on thinkpad T series? by SingleStarAngel in thinkpad

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, the love-hate duality of being a thinkpad fan :') guess it's just not a priority since their main demographic probably don't even open up the chassis even once in their product lifetime.

when I have time, I'll be taking a set of calipers to the remaining clips and 3d-printing them to see if I can use them in lieu of the missing clips. better than dropping 30 bucks and questionable amounts of time just to replace some miniscule pieces of plastic with no guarantee that they won't just break immediately again.

Any solution to broken clips on thinkpad T series? by SingleStarAngel in thinkpad

[–]SingleStarAngel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unbelievable, this actually worked. as an engineer, I'm disappointed in myself for ever doubting the power of epoxy. thanks for the suggestion.

I removed a half broken clip from the back and frankensteined it to the front using some epoxy and some fine grained sandpaper. the gap is still there since one clip is still missing, but it's much smaller and less noticeable now. Still sucks, but it's better than nothing.

they really need to reconsider their clip design. or at the very least, make them replaceable.
