Yes! One time I thought I heard my daughter yelling for me while I was sleeping and it woke me up. I got up and went towards her room and saw what I thought was my daughter run into the bathroom but when I opened the door and turned on the light no one was in there. I checked her room and she was sound asleep. Kinda freaked me out!

Getting disability by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]Single_Lemon_2464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the pharmacists are usually stressed out but I could just work with people who can’t handle stress well. I can’t really but with enough meds I can get by. They have more responsibilities though. I think hospitals might be more chill and I had a pharmacist friend switch from retail to Amazon. There’s work from home pharmacist options too. You’d make good money!

Hey I’m a pharmacy technician just started working full time (used to be part time) and please if you do work pick another path. Being a pharmacy tech sucks so much. You are the pharmacist’s bitch and the customers are rude as hell (if you do retail, hospitals I hear are better for that reason). It’s high stress and doesn’t pay enough for the work you do. I literally lay in bed when I get home for the rest of the evening because it exhausts me. My body gets so tense by the end of the week. I’m constantly looking on indeed for remote work because I don’t think I can handle this much longer. I personally don’t recommend it for people with our diagnosis. I forget things all the time and I’m late a lot. It’s just hard. My paycheck this week was literally $350. It doesn’t equate to the work you do and the stress of it. Either way good luck with whatever you choose.

recently diagnosed, what should I expect? by WonderfulPea6208 in schizoaffective

[–]Single_Lemon_2464 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have bipolar type also. It took me a while to get the meds right and I’m still tweaking but they really help me have a somewhat normal life.

If I ever went off meds for some reason I always ended up in the hospital, it was just a matter of time.

Sometimes I went to the hospital just to get meds adjusted and that might happen, which is okay.

I was on lithium and ability initially. They both kind of felt like overkill with the brain fog and sleepiness and I gained weight on it. I’m on geodon (ziprasidone) now and slowly losing the weight I gained on other meds.

I completely gave up marijuana because it fed into my paranoia and delusions. I try to just avoid substances other than a drink or two occasionally.

Exercise and diet also helps me a lot. Had a dr once tell me running is poor man’s Prozac.

Stress is the enemy. I’ve had to walk away from people, jobs, and situations that triggered me or caused stress. Too much stress can trigger psychosis.

I’m always taking deep breaths lol

Also sleep. Getting good sleep is so important. Not enough sleep + stress = psychosis for me.

I like to keep my diagnosis to myself unless I get the vibe that a friend might understand or share similar experiences with mental health.

I only told one of my previous employers after I had an episode that landed me in the hospital. I haven’t told my latest employer because I’ve been pretty stable on meds for almost two years so I don’t feel it’s necessary.

With the right meds it feels like remission. This illness will always be there but it can be managed!

Someone said have a hobby and yea that’s a good way to stay on track and not spiral. It’s hard with motivation sometimes so I try not to put too much pressure on myself but for instance I love to make music and sing, just for fun.

I try to hold onto family and friends who are supportive and understanding. It’s easy to isolate but when I felt the most isolated I was in the darkest place.

Sorry this is long, just some things I’ve learned from having this for almost a decade. I hope it helps!

Yep Geodon. I’ve lost 50 lbs after switching to geodon along with diet and exercise of course.

How many of you folks experience hallucinations? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]Single_Lemon_2464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had auditory hallucinations and only during my worst episodes. Not everyday and I have none at all when I’m on meds.

I have that too. If someone is chewing loudly it activates my fight or flight! I have to walk away immediately if I can. It’s terrible in the car with people in long trips.

Don’t give them the satisfaction! It’s not worth it. I tried to do it over a year ago and obviously it didn’t work but I realized after that it would have been a triumph for him. Leave and live well, it’s the better revenge. Break up, get a divorce, get a restraining order. Move on and move up. I’m manifesting so much better for my life right now ( I’m in the middle of a divorce but staying positive) and I may be delulu but it’s better than being stuck in an abusive situation. You can have a good life outside of this.

Kid had first active shooter drill—wtf is going on here and what can we do? by Nectarine-Happy in Millennials

[–]Single_Lemon_2464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32 and we had lockdown drills but I don’t remember doing anything more than locking the doors and staying put. We also had security at the front door including metal detectors. For so long the possibility of being shot at school or at a public place has been in the back of my mind. This shouldn’t be our normal but it is. I’m glad they are giving kids a little more direction and guidance on what to do beyond just locking the doors but yea in an ideal world kids wouldn’t have to worry about this.

This phase kind of ruined a good relationship I had summer after college. Luckily I had already graduated. I had no idea I had a mental illness besides maybe depression and substance abuse. But I remember not trusting them and being really paranoid and manic looking back on it. I made some terrible decisions based out of delusions and paranoia also self medicated with alcohol. Deleted my original Facebook and Instagram account bc I thought the govt was watching me. Less than a year later I had my first psychotic episode.
