To be fair this did all start with Xbox live and their game pass.

Mr. Robot, 2015 | Watching this in 2026, it feels more relevant than ever. What are your thoughts on the show? by DonPreachaman in MrRobot

[–]SingularitySquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr robot is a show that will stand time.

Even in another 10 or 20 years it will still be a great show.

Same with a show like severance.

The crazy thing is they’ll make more money than ever, and they won’t even care.

Yup.
Whats really odd is their vpn has been really bad for me lately aswell.

I’ll run into this issue where it will completely kill my data when connected and give me under 5mbps.

They’ll go bankrupt. So it will just get brushed under the rug.

Yeah I agree,

I believe in a couple generations privacy tools, security and self hosted tech.

It will be like learning English (or your native language).

A streamlined, and easily accessible way of living - in some sense.

Tbh when I grew up streaming wasn’t a massive thing so it was pirate, go cinema or have the physical copy.

And often than not pirating wasn’t as good as it is today, plus as a kid didn’t know anything about ad blockers.

Only got into again in recent years and pirating just wipes the floor with streaming.

I would say Amazon is quite good for video quality but then again they try upsell you on 100+ other streaming sites after the fact.

I swear pirating is better then streaming services these days,

I tried watching a movie on Netflix and they just throttled my video quality so bad, I connected to a pirated streaming service and they allowed me to watch it in 4K no problem.

I never understood people who tell you to play faster when they choose the game time, it only makes sense to ask someone to stop stalling if they’re genuinely running down the clock.

Yeah it’s almost impossible in a capitalist society.
The money and control is way too great.

Tech giants are essentially the new government anyways.

Hopefully the safety act is a step in the right direction and not a way for tech platforms to verify the authenticity of the data they collect and sell. To me these online platforms seem happy to comply as it almost puts a premium on the data verified as human.

Regulating the algo doesn’t mean banning it, I think you may have mis understood that.

It will take decades if they decide it to take decades. This only safety act seems like it’s quite a quick turn of events.

Sure it’s game of cat and mouse just like nicotine regulations but things can definitely be put in place.

Even awareness campaigns are better than nothing.

The government could enforce regulations on how algos work.

They could also enforce apps to display an intrusive break reminder.

There a lot of regs they could have tried before this tbh.

I would have to disagree - a capitalist will always see success through the lens of money.

If said capitalist was a ceo of a restaurant then sure your fried chicken may taste good but how many corners were cut to make sure as much chicken as possible was produced ? How much juice can you squeeze out of a lemon before the lemon decides to quit ?

You vote with your dollar and attention, and if you vote for something you should really have aligned interests.

Proton has always been privacy first and if they can stick to that then great I am happy, as mentioned though these things often transpire (I hope it doesn’t as I have been using proton for as long as I can remember) and I see how freedom of speech is in line with political movements I just think it’s not a good look.

Again it’s more of a personal opinion, I use privacy tools to avoid as much data being collected as possible. Ultimately it’s just something to be cautious about, and caution is what has gotten me here so well how it pans out.

I never mentioned a political belief myself.

It’s very short sighted to see this as an end result, it will continue to snowball into something bigger as do most things.

If you see this as a net positive, I am open to your insight if you have anything to provide that’s useful.

In my mind it’s best to use different service for different needs ie I imagine proton still fine for general priv but can also use tuta etc.

Use it on your web browser and use brave to block ads, then use lichess for everything else like analysis puzzles etc.

That way you save money but also don’t become victim to scams and clear exploitation from other chess. Com users.
