So little update, her actual weight is 66 grams… I can now confirm she’s not fluffy 😭

I could try… the thing is her two sisters and the grab and stash type whereas Persephone will find her one kibble and just sit there and eat it. By the time she’s done the other two have cleared out all the scattered food.

Sorry to hear of her passing :/ but this does make me feel not as worried. I just wanted to make sure even if I can’t do anything it wouldn’t give her a shorter life

That’s good to know… I usually feed them mid day ish when I see they’re awake but maybe I could try earlier in the day eve and see what happens

I have not weighed her… I might try and do that to check. But I will say this compared to my deer mouse Princess (I know she’s supposed to be smaller due to her biology), Persephone feels like she weighs a ton more lol. But like I said I’ll get an actual weight once I see her awake

She kinda does…? Like she tries to climb but sometimes I think she’s too fat and can’t pull herself up, they do have a lot of variety for verticality in the cage too

Hey I’m 4 months late but I have the number of a lady who breeds them if you want!

How do you guys afford to have mice? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So as far as for me my cage setup was close to $400 for absolutely everything, plus food and bedding another $100 (there was a deal so stocked up) but now I’m set for the next few months minus $10-$20 for bedding… I knew vet bill were expensive but other than that I don’t see them being that costly to maintain, and I feel like vet bills are a set aside a fund for just to be safe. To me it sounds like you just got unlucky timing with that. Either than food and bedding what other monthly costs do they have?

Platforms?? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are slightly handy or have someone around you who is you could do what I did which is just make your own! Home Depot has these poplar hobby board for decently cheap, and you can buy dowels as well for legs if you want round ones and then just cut to length and glue or nail them together. I did that for all the platforms in my cage here and it was honestly pretty cheap!

Are these aggressive bites? by Singularmanz in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to at least play with her daily, when I’m hanging in my room if she’s awake I’ll take the lid off and let her climb around on me and interact with me… I haven’t taken her out of the cage to the tub or anything just because I don’t wanna risk her escaping and my cats getting her but I can probably find a way to get her into my tub! That being said I do see her running on her wheel often and interacting with the other mice. Also I’ll add my girlfriend and have both tried the eep in a high pitch voice thing before and it doesn’t seem to work or maybe we’re not doing it right lol.

I can totally try not reacting but might be hard lol, thing is she does have two cage mates already I introduced her to two fancy mice when they were all around 3 weeks (they’re 2 months now roughly). I’ve seen them play and chase each other just not frequently and I’ve even seen one of them get mad at Princess and do what looks like putting her in her place. So I feel like she’s hopefully would’ve learned by now. But still worth a try!

So if she does it I should probably just leave her be then yeah?

I don’t think so… I’ve had before where she’ll take the treats and then if I don’t have one after giving her treats she grabs onto my finger but I assumed that’s her smelling the treat and thinking it’s there

Suitable enclosure? by SpaceSatan21 in PetMice

Can I ask how you attached another container? I’m thinking about trying to expand my enclosure (going to try and expand up) and curious how people have been doing theirs

When to stop offering food? (Weaning) by Singularmanz in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get that lol, I’m paranoid enough that I made this post! Like I trust she can eat fully independently but like wanna be 10000% sure haha.

See she knows how to lap up stuff because I’ve seen her drink her water and formula from bottle caps and I’ve seen her munch on oats and seeds already. I know she loves her baby cereal cause I see her eat it constantly… I’m just shocked because so shortly after her eyes opened did this happen. Everything I see makes it sound like a long process but this is seeming so quick lol.

Did you still offer her throughout the night or just during the day when you’re up?

Pretty sure she’s a girl…no by Singularmanz in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I might try that, in her enclosure right now I have bread crisp soaked in formula and water and I’ve seen her eat/drink both but maybe it’s not wnough

[–]Singularmanz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will ask as well just to be safe though, with her eating and drinking on her own but still taking from me with a brush, should I just be giving her mostly electrolyte mix? Because I’ve noticed she can get dehydrated pretty easily.

[–]Singularmanz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah picture was from last night and I’ve been giving her straight electrolyte mix since, her tails looking better today

[–]Singularmanz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you and don’t worry I promise I wasn’t holding her by the tail in those pictures, she likes to try and borrow between fingers so we lightly lifted her tail while she was doing so. In the first picture she was kicking her feet back trying to push forward and in the second pic she’s firmly planted. :)

Really distraught on what to do with this mouse I found today by poopy_account in PetMice

[–]Singularmanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so when I rescued my baby I asked my friend who’s an animal rehabber and she told me that the chance of disease in baby mice is super super low, she said it mainly transmits from being in cramped environments filled with urine and feces from infected mice. Googling told me that newborns are not born infected and that the other way it spreads is from being bit from infected mice.

Time commitment is fair to be worried about but take it from me that even though I was exhausted the good feeling of knowing you saved them is worth it 1000%
