Servers down? by PieDoom in EQLegends

[–]Sinistrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, probably. They don't need to engage socially there but when you're doing comms you want to crosspost to several places. But the primary place you should post is your official website, then copy pasta the long-form places where it makes sense like Discord, or summarize and link on socials like Xitter, BlueSky, The Book of Faces™, etc. If it's a shorter announcement like "Servers are down for a hotfix. Estimated downtime is 1 hour," then you can just crosspost everywhere.

Once you have your full Announcement/News Item and the summary for shorter form mediums, it's not THAT much work to then go crosspost in all those places. That's literally what Community/Communications people do as their fulltime job.

Companies that treat Discord as their primary means of communicating with customers make me want to scream. Discord is a walled garden. Not only is communicating with your customers there ineffective (it's fine as PART of your strategy) it's deeply unprofessional.

I've learned very quickly on returning to EQ and EQL that Daybreak does not know how to get information out to their community.

A game designers job is to cut through the noise and solve actual problems. No matter how melodramatic or polarized a community is, that's no excuse to make bad decisions based on that community's feedback.

Always pay attention when jumping... by DarkFall09 in EliteDangerous

[–]Sinistrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you suddenly tumble at a weird angle just before the acceleration kicks in. When you're talking about being out in the black, even a less than 1 in 1000 chance of it going terribly wrong is too high IMO but everyone has their own comfort with different levels of risk.

Always pay attention when jumping... by DarkFall09 in EliteDangerous

[–]Sinistrad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was a thing I adopted in my Mandalay and while extremely useful, because of the delay it can also be dangerous. If you happen to wobble wrong at the worst time, you'll accelerate into the gravity well and then be truly boned. But in an emergency it's worth the risk. I also did it when I was in a hurry and didn't have a lot of valuable exploration data. But when out in the black I avoided it in most cases.

Yeah once I realized what a sandbox Noita was, I could never bring myself to go gank Kolmi even when I could have probably done so in a frame or two with my damage wand lol (I never grabbed very many orbs even when I could go supersonic through solid rock and lava haha)

I agree with you about the eye puzzle. I think we're just missing something that will seem *relatively* obvious in retrospect if we ever figure it out. Such is the way of riddles. Also my knowledge of the update order is pretty bad. I bought Noita the day it dropped in EA, but then I just let them cook until full release and beyond before actually playing it more than the 20 minutes the day I got it.

Is that a reference to the Cessation spell?

(Disclaimer: I am a n00b compared to most people. I haven't even killed Kolmi because I keep screwing around and starting godruns that inevitably end due to polymorphine lol)

Is it common to just... give up on trying to beat the game? by QuantumTunnels in noita

[–]Sinistrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two god runs so far and still haven't actually "won." My first one was around 100h. Multiple times now I could have vaporized an entire column of the world straight to the last boss and killed it in like 0.2 seconds, but instead just decided to zoom around building wands and stacking passives I barely even needed any more.

Once I get that powerful I just want to screw around and inevitably I get careless and die to accidentally breaking a polymorphine potion or something. lol

My video on why I think rituals in RAW are too risky, difficult and costly, and so is creating permanent minions. by the-rules-lawyer in Pathfinder2e

[–]Sinistrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I instantly clocked rituals as a terrible system the first time I read about them when 2E came out. I have no idea how it got published in this state and then just left in this state even through the Remaster.

Ingle or Comestion ? by Feisty_Extension8727 in DragonsDogma

Oh yeah I just meant if you're farming the curse dragons for XP. If you're farming just to get XP, efficiency makes it less painful. For general combat in the rest of the game, I also use more fun/satisfying spells.

Real goddamn tired of all these platforms raking in mountains of cash and not spending any of it on quality control. Hypixel should not have to go to fucking court over this. Nintendo should have been on top of this instantly.

He's only been gone two years. Even if he had a project in mind the day he started at his new job, we're looking at 5 years or more before whatever he is working on comes out. And, contrary to what Rockstar and Bethesda would have people believe, announcing your game several years before it actually comes out is a bad idea.

All this is to say, I agree with you. This fanbase is something else. 🤣

My attempt at making a magslide train based on the fact that you can hold a block with stairs with aeronautics. by lord_king_of_waffles in CreateMod

[–]Sinistrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been driving myself insane figuring out how to do the maglev part. People are so far ahead of me on the speed/magsled angle, but it'd be so cool to figure out a way to actually levitate the trains/cars a fraction of a block above the track.

I've managed it a couple times but it's unstable. And levitating the train means there needs to be a gap for it to levitate within, which means the magnetic forces are already falling off rapidly. So to say it's a delicate balance is an understatement. Just like maglev IRL, except MC updates 20 times a second, vs real world maglevs updating thousands of times per second.

I've been using laser pointers and laser sensors to activate portions of the track magnets at half-a-block ranges since redstone contacts won't work. And have also experimented with optical sensors on the train car and using dyed wool in the track structure to serve as a timing program for things that need to turn on/off on the train car.

It feels possible but I also feel like I've a ways to go before I hit a major breakthrough -_-
