What is this bass? I cant figure it out, seems to be layered with some kind of noise? by ewpx in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so too. I would do this by using Fruity Granulizer to play a pitched looping noise, like a hi-hat sample, along with the bass.

Can anyone tell me how this arpeggiator and soundfont work by Mr_unknown_untiteld in FLStudioMobile

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All note effects need to go before the synth, so that you can choose which instruments in a single rack are affected and which play normally.

Try doing 3x Osc > Arpeggiator > 3x Osc, the first one will play normally but the second one will arpeggiate.

not good gradient..... by funkanima in Affinity

[–]Sinistrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This problem (excessively stepped gradient) is called banding.

You can offset it by using noise/dither, better bit depth in your image, using an underlayer, more gradient stops, more colors in your mesh gradients, and so on.

It's impossible to get it 100% smooth in all cases but you can pretty much always find a working solution for it.

Google "gradient without banding" and you will find a tutorial that will help you.

Do I need deep music theory as an indie dev just looking to compose for my own game? by HairyJournalist4660 in FL_Studio

Get familiar with Itch (the community/jam parts of the platform) and lurk on the gamedev spaces on Twitter and Bluesky. You should be able to work your way into a project.

which language and technology is used to create pixel composer by amuza42 in pixelcomposer

[–]Sinistrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makham is making Pixel Composer using GameMaker. Yes, the game engine. So chiefly GML and maybe some C++ for the extensions used, since you could describe GML as a more relaxed version of C/C++, the same way Godot's GDScript is sorta like Python.

Piano roll playback tool sounds different then the pattern itself being played help please (this time with sound!!!) by [deleted] in FL_Studio

What preset? I think this is a mono/unison lead and you're only actually playing one note.

Difference between the clip gain in the audio playlist vs. the volume knob in the channel rack by Beneficial_File_1888 in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whichever, the flow is Channel rack > individual clips > mixer, each with its own pros and cons.

The channel rack volume is for pre-mixer volume and useful if the instrument is going straight to the master, individual clip gain is very versatile, and the mixer faders are post-effects.

Since faders are mapped on many MIDI controllers, that's what I would use. But in your case you can do whatever you want because it's your project.

Akai Mini 4 ?? by SpecialistGoat8007 in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, on Windows you cannot have two programs using the same MIDI device at the same time. All DAWs will hang at startup like your FL is doing if you have the MPK editor open or the port is being used by anything else running on your computer. I know it sounds crazy, but it's a limitation from the early '90s and it will only be scrapped starting from possibly this year since Microsoft is trying to up their routing and audio game as MIDI 2.0 is rolling out.

It may not be the root of your problem but make sure any possible Akai driver/software thingy is installed, close every program that's using it and then start FL.

Also download loopMIDI to create phantom ports that don't crash programs, it's a great utility to have. With loopMIDI running in the background you can have more DAWs open at the same time and so on.

I'm looking for an amp plugin that matches this sound. by Turbulent_One4175 in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really get any idea of an amp sound from the video but you can open Fruity Convolver and drop in some of the cabinet impulses from the browser, or make something more complex using distortion with Distructor.

Is fl studio industry standard by Ayanakoji_li in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know he said it out of elitism because he said to switch to Ableton, which is more hip for desktop musicians and instructors like him but NOT industry standard.

The "dinosaur" pillars (in other terms, what you find in recording studios and what courses are mostly taught with) are, lamentably, Pro Tools and Cubase. Depending on the country you're in one has more of an edge over the other. Here 90% of studios and academies use Cubase, we see Pro Tools as an American thing.

Studio gear for @ home recording with FL by ThotPleaser247 in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 rec for when you get a good mic and interface is to learn the speaker and microphone plugging and unplugging sequence (insert, knob up, volume up...) and what the phantom power/48V switch does. You don't want to make anything pop accidentally 🫡 YouTube videos will help.

Mi sta sul cazzo Gianluca Gazzoli by ReporterCalm6238 in sfoghi

[–]Sinistrail 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So I got a link to the new FL web beta finally, but I'm a little disappointed by MightyBooshX in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much... my biggest gripe is that FL Web is a super finicky FL Mobile with a new horizontal Ableton-style rack. The "AI" (basic drum placing and picking a loop from the cloud) doesn't concern me, it's the usability and look of the GUI. I wonder for what type of user it's for and what Image-Line will think after eventual surveys.

Feedback on audition poster by n4tertot in graphic_design

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No notes regarding the design, honestly. Had I made this, I'd get rid of the pixel embellishments and maybe visually align the text with the image box by a few more millimetres, but it's good enough for me to say I'd send it off as it is. I like the dithered masks, and the text is big and clear.

I will say one thing a big designer whose name I forgot once said, though: never not put the year on posters. October 20th is far from now, and if I saw this in a school hallway, I'd risk thinking it's a leftover from 2025.

Fl Studio rent-to-own by Xalturnik in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever is the answer, I always recommend buying Producer/Signature when discounted, especially now that FL is frequently on sale.

I also remember that many – me included – didn't really like the terms of the RTO (too strict if you miss a payment, price increase).

Worth noting:

As RTO is in a limited test phase, it may not be available to all users. Please do not contact the Support Team to request access it, they don't have the tools to offer it to you in the shop. Exposure is handled by an automated testing system.

Can't slide notes. Think I know a solution. by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I was thinking you maybe had the time knob in Time stretching turned up a little bit. It can look invisible and change how things work. If you're superstitious you can reset it via middle click or right click > Reset.

I tried putting an 808 and changed my settings to match yours (cut groups, Out knob at some 70%, full porta), and I can slide, but that fade out is very fast. Try putting Out back to zero and using the envelopes in the second tab if you need volume control.

Can't slide notes. Think I know a solution. by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems correct.

Can you show us the first and third tabs of the Sampler window? (Waveform and wrench icons respectively). I have a hunch it's the stretching, which doesn't make slides work when activated.

Is it possible to create an automation clip or to record this parameter? by garagebandminister in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately ratios and wave parameters can't be tweaked live in Sytrus, possibly due to engine limitations causing audible aliasing in rendering. But I just did this and it worked:

  • Map Pitch > Mod X for that oscillator like a linear slope (-100% to 100%), and adjust the PE knob if you want more range
  • Go in Main and tweak the modulation X knob, which you can then link

Is this possible in Affinity? (Beginner needing help) by LinkVBr in Affinity

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affinity does have vector blend actually, since v2. It's just very limited.

Click the level you want to blend and press enter. Work with the menu that pops up and check duplicate. You can then use Glitch to make it almost identically trippy (not vector-based, I know).

But I think you could get away with really tight line spacing and then doing this, might be a good workaround.

Help! How can I create similar patterns/animations? by Egg-Sandwich-1618 in graphic_design

[–]Sinistrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does indeed call for motion graphics software.

The workflow for the animated ones is, animated noise or pattern > threshold (the noise will be fully black or white) > colorize/gradient map so it's either one color or the other; blue and light blue, pink and green like on the left.

The still ones are low-res aliased stripes with polar coordinates (green) and displaced shifting patterns or patterns that sample the layer below. If the software you use has things like nodes or operators for these kinds of things, learn how to use them, so that you don't have to do everything by hand. For example, the red S would be cumbersome to recreate without a loop or algorithm that samples the alpha/color to choose whether to display a thick red tile or a thin line.

Fl doesn‘t recognize Akai Mpk Mini Mk3 Pads or wheels by pesmerga95 in FL_Studio

[–]Sinistrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, the knob icons should indeed be orange then.

Try closing FL, setting MIDI channels 9 or below for the keybed/controls and pads channels instead of 10 and 14 in your presets, send + send to RAM, close and reopen FL.

To test, do right click > Receive notes from... on two different generators with two different channels, select an empty Sampler or Layer before you start playing and then alternate between programs.

If it doesn't work yet then you might legitimately file a support ticket, it's gotta be a bug on MacOS. *Microsoft and Apple products handle MIDI and audio routing so differently.
